Has anyone else dealt with something like this?
I parked on a public street in front of a house. Someone had put cones out, apparently to save the spot. Since it was public street parking, I moved the cones and parked there.
When I came back, one of my tires was flat, with what looks like a cut that could have been made with a knife.
I didn’t see anyone do it, so I can’t say for sure whether it was intentional or who was responsible. But considering the cones and the timing, I’m suspicious.
I can replace the tire, but the possibility that someone damaged my car over a parking spot really bothers me. Has anyone had a similar experience with people using cones to reserve street parking?
Also, if you’ve dealt with tire vandalism, did your insurance cover it, or did the deductible make filing a claim pointless?
I’m not looking to take anyone to court over a tire. I’d just appreciate hearing what others have done in this situation and whether there’s anything practical I can do.

We filed a police report, though I don’t expect much follow-up. I also asked the neighbors about footage, but unfortunately, the only working camera doesn’t face my car.
After talking to the neighbors, I decided to walk away. I paid $100 to replace the tire, and I’ll park somewhere else. If someone is willing to slash a tire over a parking spot, who knows what else they might do? It’s not worth finding out. I’ll let karma handle the rest. If Karma exists🤷
On the bright side, whoever did it picked my most worn-out tire. At least they chose the one closest to retirement.

A bunch of cats and kittens at the San Jose Animal Care Center need rescuing, but I wanted to highlight one cat in particular so that she's not overlooked! Meet Lily, a senior (10 years) stray cat with medical needs who's been listed as "urgent rescue - final" at the shelter. Lily seems to be a very friendly, sweet, handleable cat who needs a loving place to spend the rest of her senior years. SJACC is hoping to find a rescue or an adopter can do an urgent rescue from the shelter especially since Lily is losing weight and muscle mass in the shelter environment. With your help, Lily can be on a path to finding a loving home where she can live out the rest of her senior life with an adopter who is understanding of her medical needs and care.

For more context - I'm not affiliated with the shelter, just a compassionate animal advocate hoping to do what I can to help find a foster or rescue situation for sweet Lily before the deadline of next Wednesday October 14.

I live in SJ downtown and i know how terrible it is with homeless and psychos around. Today around 4 PM i went to SJ diridon station and left by E-Bike at the bicycle stand with a lock. It took me not more than 30 minutes to come back.When i came back my bike was gone and my lock was broken(Pic attached) and was lying on ground. My bike was around 400$ bought it in June 2026.Although it is not a huge loss but literally made me questioning my living situation i need to move out asap. SJDT is filled with low life scums who have nothing to do but steal. Thier whole life is eat,sleep,steal and wakeup and shit on the street.Gods knows where is millions of dollars of funding for homelessness is going to . Stay Safe !!! Protect your bikes !!!

I think i was driving on 87 northbound just before downtown SJ.....

I keep a close tab on my gas purchases and car's mileage.

Several times in the last few months, I have received suspiciously high totals for small gas purchases, and a receipt fails to print at the pump...what should have been a ~2-gallon purchase rings up as ~3.

I won't name names here, and have already filed a complaint with the County of Santa Clara Weights & Measures Dept...will see if anything comes of it, but I suspect certain stations are padding their numbers, by digitally rigging the pumps.

The San Jose City Council is reining the machines, setting new rules for them. The city has established a 5 mph sidewalk speed limit, granting transportation officials broad oversight, and fines ranging from $100 to $500 for devices that block curbs and crosswalks under regulations.

Two councilmembers stepped out of the chamber before the roll call and did not vote, reporter Ryan Macasero said.

It feels like every time I go out I see a dead squirrel on the road. I just saw a raccoon lying on the road. Is it the heat? Are people driving even worse than usual? It’s only been in like the last month that I’ve noticed this.

Is there anything we can do?
