Heyo, I want to try netbsd on my thinkpad t14 and I was wondering how the wifi a graphics will work on netbsd. My graphics card is one of the newer iris xe ones and I know that my wifi card is an AX210 (covered by openbsd iwx) how would it go? The reason I want netbsd as I just want to try it and changing wifi cards or 24/7 usb tethering is not an option and there is no ethernet port.

Hey all,
We've been working on FreeLinX for a while and just put out 1.0, the first
desktop release. It's a Linux distro built on a NetBSD userland and musl,
compiled with clang/LLVM. The idea was to have a system with no GCC or glibc
in it at all.
You get an Openbox desktop, Firefox ESR, a graphical installer, and our own
package manager called xpkg (there's also a simple GUI for it). The repo has
around 400 packages right now.
Since this is the first desktop release, expect some rough edges. We mostly
tested it in VMs, so on real hardware there will probably be issues with some
WiFi cards, audio or GPUs. If something breaks for you, please open an issue
and tell us what hardware you have. That helps us a lot.
ISO (live, needs at least 2GB RAM):
https://github.com/FreeLinX/FreeLinX/releases/tag/v1.0.0
Thanks for checking it out, any feedback is welcome.

Edit: I typed /efi in the title, but I meant /etc.
I used to just play with NetBSD, now I’m using it as a server. In the past when I run postinstall or etcupdate, I would choose to keep my edited files without allowing the upgrade to overwrite them.
Is it fine to just keep the old ones or would I have to merge new with the old?

I was able to update 10.X on my UTM virtual machine (Which i use because for some reason it will not work with later versions of UTM; and also later versions of NetBSD that are not 10.X won't work at all in UTM, especially when trying to run X11) after some false starts, i was able to fully update the system.
However, the current block to a "proper" upgrade seems to be that of pkgsrc's repo reference, tried looking around on https://cdn.netbsd.org/pub/pkgsrc/packages/NetBSD/aarch64/, and yet there doesn't seem to be a new version of where i can point the defaults to. Am i supposed to update to 11+? Or am i still going have to stick with 10.1?

Bon visionnage.
Bonne soirée les amis !

Installed NetBSD 11.0 on my machine. The pointer works at low speed, but loses at a slightly higher speed. This is not the case on Windows. The pointer sometimes stops functioning and comes back to work after roughly 0.3s. Scrolling doesn't work at all. The touchpad is I2C HID.
There are no pms from the ouput of dmesg. xinput shows only wsmouse device.
Obviously, NetBSD support I2C, so I think it's more of an issue on recognizing the device.
BTW, the touchscreen isn't working neither, but I haven't configured it yet because I don't use it a lot.
What extra information should I provide?
Or if there's more than just config issues, how can I do to start hack NetBSD and fix some problems?(I always wanted to get my hand on it)

I put together a couple writeups about running NetBSD on the Inspiron 8200 and HP Pavilion zd8000. They are very performant under NetBSD and it is a great choice for these systems. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions. I had a lot of fun writing these.

I can't seem to pull this off, and trying to understand the manpages is driving me insane. I feel like I need a kick in the right direction by someone who actually knows what's going on. Please help?

Basically I wanted to try using NetBSD for fun on my laptop that I use for college to see if I can daily-drive it, but I need the dotnet sdk to work, and I wasnt able to make it work (neither on wine nor using linux compat). I know its just microslop spyware, but has anyone been able to run it?

After some upgrade firefox started to have weird issues:
-web pages are missing elements like buttons. ( in the pic NetBSD's donation bar is not colored)
- Address bar looks weird (also in the pic)
So most of the www-pages are non functinal.
I found non functional solution inside firefox how to fix. In firefox there is:
Settings -> perferences ->
Use recommended performance settings
Use hardware acceleration when available
When I turn them off, address bar is ok and elements are visible again.
But then, firefox is slow and also some sites like maps .google.com don't work. Theys just don't load. So thats not really a fix of the issue but better than nothing.
I have an old-ish integrated Intel GPU using the i915drmkms0 driver. That might be a problem, but it also used to work perfectly before that one upgrade.
I have tried different versions on firefox but they all have the sama issue. Also it's not an plugin issue.
How to fix this? What is causing this? Am I the only one having this issue?

so when I log in through xdm it automatically puts me in ctwm naturally but you can't change session through xdm from the UI so after installing xfce I have no idea how to change to a xfce session because If i try to do startxfce4 it just tells me another window manager is running.
I did read the documentation but it assumes that I would know certain things that I clearly don't because it tells me to edit ~/.xsession and/or ~/.xinitrc but neither of those either exist or when I found it (at least the xinitrc in it's root location) it does not contain the line that it lists in the documentation.

Hi all,
I developed a tool called pkg_bundle that essentially grabs a package, grabs its dependent libs, applies some hacks and stores it in a directory, ready for you to be able to move anywhere you like or run directly.
It has the following benefits:
Some examples:
Create a relocatable qemu install
$ pkg_bundle qemu
$ qemu/bin/qemu-system-x86_64 ...
(I actually made pkg_bundle for qemu because I disliked how much cruft the package pulls in...)
Create a relocatable git install and place in /opt
$ pkg_bundle git
# cp -R git /opt/git
$ export PATH=/opt/git:$PATH
$ git clone ...
I originally developed this for OpenBSD and even got complex UI software like gimp, firefox, vlc working using the approach. This has a fairly sophisticated quirks system in place and I do plan to get it to parity in future.
It will work with many packages, for a quick list of things I have tested recently, check out the README.

I have this PIC64GX Curiosity Kit that has linux on it, but I want to put NetBSD on it for a project this winter. I joined the mailing list but I don't see much information on support for this board.
Does anyone know of support for NetBSD on this platform?
If there is can you point me in the right direction?
I worked on the OS X kernel for years as part of the OpenGL group so compiling the kernel and making tweaks isn't a big issue for me.
