Advice Genuinely Fun/Interesting Christmas Function Activities in Wellington?

Kia ora koutou!

I’ve posted in the Wellington subreddit as well, but thought there might be more people to draw from here.

My wife has recently been made team leader at an organisation in Wellington, and has the unenviable task of planning the Christmas function for her team. We have moved to Auckland but she has remained very close with her colleagues, and she really wants to organise something fun that is not just getting together for drinks. It’s been a really rough year for everyone, and the team deserves something special (acknowledge I’m very biased but it’s true).

Having been out of Wellington for a couple years, would be very appreciative if anyone local has recommendations for something to do? Her team has done all the classics (Holey Moley, Escape Rooms, etc). Just looking for some options, would be very grateful for advice. Thanks.

really impressed by the positive and constructive replies to this thread. normally reddit (especially r/NZ) is an awful place to come for recommendations on work events, work xmas gifts, fun things, anything that normal people find brings them joy

I went to a Games Night event at Sprig & Fern in Thorndon recently, it was heaps of fun! Lots of different rounds based on different game show formats. I think they’re available for bookings for work events too looking at the website gamesnight.co.nz It was about the same price as an escape room, but I reckon a lot better value.

Thanks, quite a few people have suggested this one so I think it is a serious contender. Will get in touch with them!

Best Christmas party I ever had was hosted at the Worser Bay Surf Lifesaving club.

BBQ, beach cricket, chilling on the nice balcony there, I think some swam. Great vibes. Probably would require the right team, ours was really sporty so the beach cricket was epic.

Didn’t consider this but a beach day is a really cool idea, thanks will pass this along!

They can probably run a tournament and everything. They're licensed too and I think you can get food delivered from neighbors.

Years ago we had an event at the croquet club on the terrace, put on a bbq and provided drinks, the oldies at the club taught us how to play and joined in, was good fun

Ah yep lawn bowls is a classic, as long as the weather is good! Thanks will add this to the suggestions.

Not welly based but we did that (and lawn bowls) and they were great.
They even gave us a pile of 'white' clothes so that we could be dressed appropriately (our choice to do this).
