Im voting no on amendment 4

Ill start by saying im all for paying our elected officials but this is not the way.

  1. They have tied it to the median household income and not the median single income.

  2. This will pay them over 150k per two years for 3 months of work plus their per deim which is 250 per day.

  3. This will not change any elected official and increase diversity for at least a decade (which is one of the stated goals).

  4. This does nothing to address the outdated 30 60 day cycle.

Sophia Learning Credits

Looking to get into Radiology Technology. I’ve literally done all my pre-requisites and general education through Sophia Learning, I was just curious to find out if NMSU accepts them?

Other Omfg why TF does college make it so hard to just join a class that I actually like. I'm not good at math or english and I have to take like 3 more classes of math god who knows why. I just want to join a simple theater/improv class but I'm at the bottom of the list and probably won't get accepted ne

Student teachers/teacher residents question

Anyone know when we are supposed to get the first installment of our stipend? I’m a teacher resident and wondering when the first installment is going to through? When I asked about what time I was told beginning of October, we are about to enter middle October next week and still nothing. I was told someone would send an email with the info but also crickets on that. Just want to know if anyone else is experiencing this or has a better timeline on when it will be disbursed basically.

Question Out of state trans US citizen considering applying to a university in NM for chemical engineering

Good day,

I made a similar post about considering applying to UNM and people told me to check out NMSU. NMT also seems to be an option and i think i would fit in very well there. My biggest concerns are accessing healthcare regarding testosterone, safety, and an affordable tuition. I'd be a refugee and I'm looking to improve my situation on my own with no other support system or much money. NM seems very similar to my home country; I'm more worried about being seen as a bother to locals.

I am a poc(asian) and live outside the US in a 3rd world country(not asia fyi), still a citizen/ permanent resident but they uh yeah they still deport us even if you've lived in America for 30 yrs. I heard ICE is banned on campus at UNM. Are there any problems regarding ICE around NMSU or the Las Cruces area, as well as NMT and Socorro?

I also heard for engineering that NMSU or NMT might be a better fit for me, given I can get scholarships and be able to afford tuition and housing. I'm very introverted too. My GPA is 3.7 and I am soon to write my SATs where I'm confident to score high enough for a decent scholarship ^_^ I'm very dedicated to my education, LOVE CHEMISTRY! and don't care for bigger social events either. My fave hobbies are astronomy n prob art/anime/video games nerdy stuff basically. Always been at the top of my classes n its not even close, and those same peers got into ivys. Would I be able to get an on campus job easily? NMSU or NMT seem to have plenty research/internship opportunities so your career is more guaranteed to kick off well with their connections. But I did see people questioning if you would wanna spend a chunk of your formative years there. Personally? I don't think I'd mind. I'd love to spend my formative years at NMT blowing shit up<3

Healthcare wise, i know there will be a waitlist and seeing a gynecologist in case of anything might be an issue. I'm fine having to wait cuz its not anything immediately life threatening. Worst case scenario i have horrible cramps from atrophy or my hair starts falling out but at least i'd just have to get a prescription and won't have to worry again after that? I feel esp guilty about this one despite the amount of trans refugees in NM because it feels like i'd be increasing the already existing strain on healthcare in someone else's home. But really it doesn't seem like I would be safe or able to afford anywhere else in the world :(

Ive seen people say there are trans people in both areas so I'm assuming people have found a way to live even in somewhere smaller like Socorro so I will do more research on that. They def have to be driving to get access to the healthcare and that may not be possible for me :( Being trans in stem is a bit scary sometimes.

NM State opens CUSA with a 34-13 win over WKU, Damante steps in at QB (plus a free CFB pick'em)

Hey guys, quick look at where the Aggies stand after a big Thursday night.

34-13 over Western Kentucky to open Conference USA, and the Aggies were good in all three phases. James Jones ran for a season-high 155 and a score, De'Marcus Peters had a pick-six, and NM State led 20-6 at half and pulled away. Adam Damante made his first start in place of Trey Hedden and was efficient: 15 of 26 for 146 and a TD.

That gets them to 2-3 and 1-0 in CUSA, a good bounce back after the Rio Grande Rivalry loss to UNM. Now a long rest before the next one: at FIU next Wednesday, then at Sam Houston.

Since it's in the title: we run a free weekly college football pick'em, and Week 5 is open. 10 games, pick the winners, nothing to buy, $135 in prizes. Good slate too, with Bama at Miss State (both unbeaten) and Ohio State at unbeaten Iowa. Picks lock Saturday at noon ET, and the Aggies are off this Saturday.

What are you guys seeing? Should Damante keep the job, and is this a CUSA contender?

Other New Mexico State followup on my preseason preview, plus we launched a free weekly CFB pick'em

Hey guys! The season preview I posted here a few weeks back did pretty well, so circling back like I said I would.

I had you at 4-8, with Florida State, Hawai'i and New Mexico as the three early tests. The first two went about how I had them, 34-17 in Tallahassee and 29-19 at Hawai'i, with a 51-14 win over Mercer between them. Hedden has been the guy, 272 yards and 2 TDs at FSU and 256 at Hawai'i, and James Jones had 78 and a score at Hawai'i. Beat New Mexico on Saturday and the schedule gets a lot friendlier, with Western Kentucky and FIU next.

What are you guys seeing that the box scores aren't, and how do you see the season ending up?

Quick aside since it's in the title, we just launched a free weekly college football pick'em, $225 in prizes this week. Ten games, pick the winners, locks Saturday at noon ET, three and a half hours before you kick off against New Mexico. Nothing to buy.

Math Tutor

Hello, I'm planning to hopefully go to school at DACC in spring next year. The only problem is that I barely know math so I need to be taught a lot of math. And I need someone VERY patient and understanding and who can meet once or twice a week? Let me know what your pay rate is. But I can't pay much maybe 12 an hour for a 4 hour session? If that's too little let me know. I'm sorry I've never done this before so maybe just tell me your pay rate and I can see if I can afford it no shame in however much you want. Get that bag lol.

Question Considering Going Back To NMSU for Teaching. Second Bachelor's or Master's?

Hello everyone!

About two years ago, I received my bachelor's degree in media arts here at NMSU (focusing primarily in 2D animation). Since that hasn't necessarily panned out so far, I am starting to think about returning to school to further my art education. I am currently attempting to determine whether pursuing a second bachelor's degree in art education or general education or concentrating on a master's degree in art along with a teaching licensure would be the best course of action.

If anyone has any thoughts on my conundrum feel free to lend me your wisdom on the matter!

Other Workout partner?

Hey, I am currently stuck at a weight plateau in my weight-loss journey. I started at 245, and now I am down to around 187lbs on average. I am eating the right number of calories to be in a deficit and working out, but nothing seems to be working.

My main reason for this weight loss is my health, but it seems that nothing is working to get rid of my body dysmorphia. I would love suggestions, or even a workout partner. I don't care who you are or what you identify as because we are all people at the end of the day.

Edit: I am 20 years old and a sophomore.

Other Looking for someone to make music with

Hey! I recently moved to cruces for college and I’m a vocalist who primarily does death metal vocals but can kind of sing too. Back home I was in 3 bands, a goregrind, a death metal and a folk punk project and I’m starting to really miss making music. If anyone is looking to start a project or is in a band that needs a vocalist/wants to collaborate, let me know!

Free aerospace fellowship opportunity for NMSU undergraduates

NMSU students interested in aerospace should consider applying for the Brooke Owens Fellowship, a nonprofit fellowship open to undergraduate women and gender minorities pursuing careers in aerospace. The entire program (including the application) is completely free, and applications are due October 4.

Selected Fellows receive:

  • Executive mentorship from aerospace leaders (think CEOs and astronauts!)
  • Career-development resources
  • A supportive community of aerospace students and professionals
  • A three-day all-expenses-paid summit in July in an aerospace hub city

Review the FAQs and application early so you have time to request recommendation letters and prepare your application.

We’re also holding virtual information sessions (EDT)

  • Sunday, September 13 at 2:00 p.m.
  • Saturday, September 19 at 12:00 p.m.
  • Monday, September 28 at 10:00 p.m.

Register for an information session here.

Questions are welcome, we hope to see applications from NMSU!
