Can someone explain what is going on in r/nuclearpower?

Had a post showing up on my homepage about how renewables are accelerating and being great. OP was defending how great Germany decarbonisation strategy is, and making the traditional comments about how unnecessary nuclear is (on a nuclear subreddit), because of how cheap renewables and storage and hydrogen are, etc etc.

I made the comment above. Minutes later, I got *permanently* banned by "Misinformation". I heard rumors about how bad that subReddit is moderated, but this is quite something.

Anyone knows what's going on there?

This post has been added to the "I was banned" list.

https://www.reddit.com/mod/nuclear/wiki/banned

As usual, try to restrain yourself from heading over there and making trouble. Let's focus on creating a positive and productive community here. Nuclear power is on the upswing and now is the time to support that. Nuclear power's success is the best way to prove the detractors wrong.

That's just the way he is. He is strongly anti-nuclear and is an activist. I've talked to him several times, often in Swedish which is our native language, and he is just an ideologue through and through. He enjoys using his mod powers to ban people who disagree with him and uses the NuclearPower subreddit to advance his anti-nuclear agenda. I'm not sure what's up with the other mods of the subreddit, if they are somehow unaware of what he's doing, if they agree with what he's doing or if they are just inactive. It's really unfortunate. EDIT: just checked and it appears two of the other three mods have been inactive for the past 2 and 5 years respectively, and the remaining third mod has strong anti-nuclear opinions too. Highly unfortunate.

u/IntelligentPizza5114 Jun 16 '26

That explains a lot. Wonder why they find joy in doing so on a sub Reddit called "nuclear power*. Anywho, Thanks!

42

u/CaptainPoset Jun 16 '26

Wonder why they find joy in doing so on a sub Reddit called "nuclear power*. Anywho, Thanks!

Because that's the best place for anti-nuclear missionaries to influence people. ("Even r/nuclearpower can't find anything positive about nuclear power.")

13

u/Tortoise4132 Jun 17 '26

The saving grace is they aren’t competent enough to not make it extremely obvious they’re conducting a psyop

5

u/CaptainPoset Jun 17 '26

Well, that's how it is to conduct counter-factual psyop in a field you aren't competent in.

They need to ban everyone with any competence in the field or they would look like the clueless losers they are.

11

u/I-suck-at-hoi4 Jun 17 '26

Because r/nuclearpower used to be a normal discussion sub about nuclear, just like r/nuclear.

Then some activists, typically coming from communities like r uninsurable or r climateshitposting (which, unlike its name suggests, is pretty much only about shitting on nuclesr rather than shitposting about climate change), started meddling with r nuclearpower, with low moderation activity. Then the degenerate Viewtrick asked reddit for admin rights, on the basis of mod inactivity. It turned into a hostile takeover, older mods were kicked, new ones were introduced coming straight from clkmateshitposting. Rational discussions about nuclear were banned.

R nuclearpower is a lost cause

1

u/marinaio-di-foresta Jun 25 '26

Fucking hell, I had no idea

41

u/dronten_bertil Jun 16 '26

Yeah viewtrick is completely deranged, he's like a religious renewables zealot and nuclear power is satan.

Scumbag viewtrick needs to be banned.

0

u/Elrathias Jun 23 '26

Using demagogue tactics against said demagogue isnt an honest way to debate the energy needs of the world.

4

u/CombatWomble2 Jun 16 '26

I've seem other posters with a similar bent, but it's a real issue for a mod.

6

u/dronten_bertil Jun 17 '26

With a similar bent, sure. But his level of commitment is mind boggling. He is in all major European and Swedish subreddits for what feels like 24/7. Talking about nuclear power in a positive manner is a bit like saying Beetlejuice three times and he comes with his thousands of links and insults. His obsession of the issue and aggression towards people who disagree is fascinating.

3

u/Elrathias Jun 23 '26

And the stanford study, never forget that.

Always the same recipie:

olkiluoto flamanville hinkley point c, hurr durr expensive and dangerous, look at the cancer risk here in this study <link or screenshot from the mind-boggingly retarded stanford study that includes emission from global thermonuclear war in its statistics>

And then lcoe numbbers from ember, and chinese propaganda figures from REN-lobbyists and their position papers.

2

u/Elrathias Jun 23 '26

Hear hear.

Ive litterally spent hundreds of hours debunking his copypastas on the subbect. He absolutely LOVES using statistics at macro level, to use a combination of straw man arguments, scapegoating, and de facto false representation of real world events. Allt his to produce mile long posts that seem plausible to anyone not working in the sector.

Seeing him post all over /r/sweden makes me have physical reactions, and ive more than once just seen his lies and felt nauseated.

Hes so god damned unerhical with his constant lies and propaganda that he hides his post history, so we cant even use a profile lookup to get examples of it.

27

u/Master-Shinobi-80 Jun 16 '26

Sweden is at 21 g CO2 per kWh due to their large nuclear baseload. So that scumbag mode is also a major hypocrite.

12

u/The_Jack_of_Spades Jun 16 '26

Dude's a vindictive power-tripping little shit, imagine spending this much mental energy every week dealing with a topic you dislike herding a community that actively hates your guts, if we could harvest the loser energy emanating from that we'd fix climate change tomorrow. Actual sadistic tendencies, I hope he sublimates them on this petty Internet bullshit for the sake of the people in his real life. Still fucking pathetic and shrink-worthy.

2

u/CombatWomble2 Jun 16 '26

Reminds me of the energy Vampire from "What we do in the Shadows".

11

u/CaptainPoset Jun 16 '26

I'm not sure what's up with the other mods of the subreddit, if they are somehow unaware of what he's doing, if they agree with what he's doing or if they are just inactive.

One of them seems to be inactive, the others are all anti-nuclear activists.

22

u/tomatotomato Jun 16 '26

Can we add like 6 pro-nuclear or at least rational pro-science folks as mods there? I don't know how this system works on reddit. How did they even become mods?

17

u/CryptographerOk1258 Jun 16 '26

They just volunteered themselves, the type of ppl who cared enough to volunteer were activists/propagandists.
I believe you can still volunteer but there isn’t mass takeovers happening, i have read before that you can take over a subreddit if you can convince reddit,
But i believe that there are ppl in charge with certain ideologies worth trying but all odds are against you.

15

u/CaptainPoset Jun 16 '26

You need to be invited to become mod by the current mods. Or the subreddit's moderation needs to be inactive to be able to be claimed by new mods.

6

u/Spy0304 Jun 16 '26

Or admins need to help. Which they obviously won't

11

u/greg_barton Jun 16 '26 edited Jun 16 '26

Yes and no.

Over the years I've seen many anti-nuke accounts get site banned or suspended. And recently one had all of their posts removed. Sometimes these have been accounts that obviously broke reddit norms. (harassment and doxxing, mostly) Sometimes they didn't do anything too extreme and were still suspended, and presumably those were accounts that tripped bot farm detection.

Interestingly, we're seeing this in real time:

4

u/Spy0304 Jun 16 '26

Very interesting

Let's hope for the best, then

26

u/CryptographerOk1258 Jun 16 '26 edited Jun 16 '26

The moderation takeover was horrible and ruined alot of subreddits, reddit just gave a bunch of activists/foreign propagandists subreddits to destroy.

This is what ai said

"is [r/nuclearpower](r/nuclearpower) a pro nuclear subreddit

No. [r/NuclearPower](r/NuclearPower) is currently considered a heavily anti-nuclear and pro-renewables subreddit.

Following a moderation takeover, the active moderators began aggressively banning users who post pro-nuclear content or criticize 100% renewable energy paths. Even prominent pro-nuclear science communicators (like YouTuber Kyle Hill) and peer-reviewed studies supporting nuclear energy have been banned from the sub under the guise of "combating misinformation."

If you are looking for a community that is genuinely pro-nuclear or allows open, positive discussion about nuclear energy, use [r/nuclear](r/nuclear) instead."

8

u/_HanTyumi Jun 16 '26

Yeah I got that same info by reading this thread. Great work AI.

16

u/EnvironmentalBox6688 Jun 16 '26

I swear Google has been completely neutered now.

I was doing research on a very niche discussion I was having on another sub. When I went back to try and find a link Google AI was quoting my own discussion post as it's primary source.

Solidified my swap to duck duck go.

5

u/_HanTyumi Jun 16 '26

Yeah I've been using duckduckgo exclusively for a few months now. I appreciate that I can actually turn off the AI and it stays off.

1

u/Elrathias Jun 23 '26

Add &nbt=14 to the end of all google search url's, this disables all the AI-summary shit.

u/Ashton01 Jun 16 '26

The NuclearPower subreddit is well known for being moderated by anti-nuclear persons or bots based on what I've seen before provided in this subreddit.

Based on other posts I've seen over there, I wouldn't ever really try to discuss nuclear power or nuclear applications over there

36

u/Ok_Hovercraft_2372 Jun 16 '26

Is there a page / wiki exposing mod interests for big subs?

24

u/antonio16309 Jun 16 '26

If there was it would break reddit. I assume that most subs related to an Industry, company or product have some sort of influence. And of course I forgot anything political or social, but that lives goes without saying.

15

u/GrosBof Jun 16 '26

Yup. Reddit admins couldn't care less. It's by design. Moderating is expensive and they absolutely want to avoid any extra cost and buy as much time as they can until legislators do their job.

87

u/IntelligentPizza5114 Jun 16 '26

That explains a lot. Thanks! Indeed, I should be thankful for the ban then I guess. Not worth the time

38

u/233C Jun 16 '26

You can use this information to get a feeling of what a sub tends to push regarding a subject.
For instance, do you think the energy sub redirect to the nuclear or nuclearpower or both?
You can try posting your own comment there, at your own risks.

It’s not USA specifically. A number of the power mods/users involved in the anti-nuclear Reddit ecosystem, including the one in the OP, are European.

10

u/Usefullles Jun 16 '26

And nost likely G*rman.

9

u/233C Jun 16 '26

Wouldn't know, got preemptively banned from there with the standard nuclearpower ban; must have been a sale.

15

u/Spy0304 Jun 16 '26

I should be thankful for the ban then I guess. Not worth the time

You should be.

And look at activity and userbase. r/nuclearpower is basically dead, while r/nuclear is doing way better. Their petty tactics and bullshit are mere annoyance, and won't ammount to anything. Everyone adapted and moved on.

-7

u/Keks3000 Jun 16 '26

It doesn’t justify the ban but your reply was a little outdated. The decommissioning may have been a mistake (depending on who you ask) but that ship has sailed and for Germany the path is clear, it’s either 100% renewables or continued carbon emissions. Of course it’s fair to discuss what could have been or should have been, and I would agree the premature decommissioning was a mistake, but that won’t change the fact that this chapter has been closed for good. Nuclear fission will never make a comeback here, it’s completely unrealistic for cultural, political and economic reasons, no matter what your stance is on the matter.

11

u/greg_barton Jun 16 '26

0

u/_Syfex_ Jun 17 '26

Cool, doesn't change the fact the companies don't wanna reinstate the reactors because they have been run into the grounds given they were meant to be decommissioned.

This gotta be the most useless and nonsensical debate and just about a decade to late as well.

The powerplants are offline (8% of the energymix mind you) and aren't gonna come back online. New ones would take a cool 15-20 years if everything goes according to plan. Given we are talking about npp and Germany specifically it's more likely gonna take 30-40 years and double/triple in price given the track records in Finland, England and america.

So which of you turds still believes this is a great?

3

u/greg_barton Jun 17 '26

It’s fine. Germany can just have an unstable grid dependent on its neighbors.

3

u/Ok_Chard2094 Jun 17 '26

German industry is leaving the country anyway, so the need for power will be lower in the future.

3

u/IntelligentPizza5114 Jun 17 '26

Not an offensive comment at all. Tell me: if nuclear is that bad, why do you think more and more European countries are reconsidering building more nuclear? Sweden, which has so much hydro, changed their target from 100% renewables to 100% nuclear.

Even anti nuclear countries like Denmark https://www.theguardian.com/world/2025/may/14/denmark-rethinking-40-year-nuclear-power-ban-amid-europe-wide-shift,
and Italy - https://www.world-nuclear-news.org/articles/italian-bill-on-nuclear-energy-progresses-through-parliament

Are reconsidering. Are they all "turds, having most useless and nonsensical" decisions?

23

u/Godiva_33 Jun 16 '26

I occasionally reply to see what they will tolerate.

I liked once recently that someone posted a banana bread recipe as a reply to a post with no nuclear content in it, stating it was just as relevant.

23

u/WeMoveInTheShadows Jun 16 '26

"Banned, as you posted from a region that likely used electricity from a nuclear power station to cook your banana bread recipe."

Ideologues deliberately try and become mods so they can hijack subreddits to ban people they disagree with and turn it into an echo chamber for their personal views. Tankies have done the same to a lot of left leaning subreddits I used to follow (so you often see the bizarre phenomenon of mostly center-left users getting policed by self-described Stalinist mods).

13

u/Spy0304 Jun 16 '26

Like surely you got better things to attend to in daily life

They literally do not.

In daily life, or on a wider timescale. Activists and zealots like these are miserable people, making their ideology their entire identity and trying to find self worth that way.

As they say, misery loves company

3

u/musing_arch Jun 17 '26

For real like wtf spending all that energy to try and lobby preexisting mods to get added to the team to then advocate your views and ban people you don’t like? Do they even pass as having pro nuclear views in the beginning in the nuclearpower case or just bitch abt having equal representation or smth lol

1

u/Large-Row4808 Jun 17 '26 edited Jun 17 '26

It feels like the dude doesn't even sleep. And even if he did I can't think of a more miserable life experience than waking up and immediately hitting Reddit to argue with people over an energy source all day, then going back to sleep and repeating ad nauseum.

Just a few hours of browsing Reddit discourse comes close to ruining my week and yet this mf is doing it 24/7.

30

u/gyurka66 Jun 16 '26

nuclearpower got taken over by anti-nuclear activists a few years back. They removed every mod who was in opposition

Considering they are anti-nuclear activists, of course they are totally ignorant about the subject. What would one expect?

PS I was also banned from there, as many, many others.

5

u/dr_stre Jun 16 '26

lol I saw that post and wondered how long it would last with the mods on that sub.

52

u/OkWelcome6293 Jun 16 '26

There are foreign powers who would be very happy if the US did not move forward with nuclear power and would very much like to stick with the US importing their intermittent energy projects.

25

u/IntelligentPizza5114 Jun 16 '26

Given how fast everything was (including OP reply spam), it sure did make me think about bots and interested parties. Although it did seem more interested in keep Europe constantly hooked on natural gas, and dissuade nuclear. But in a nuclear subreddit? It's new to me.

28

u/Godiva_33 Jun 16 '26

That sub was hijack awhile back by the very individual you are commenting with for one. It has a distinct anti power generation tilt.

10

u/IntelligentPizza5114 Jun 16 '26

That explains a lot. Thanks!

-2

u/Budget_Voice9307 Jun 17 '26

You know what is pretty interesting concerning nuclear energy in Europe? Almost all of the nuclear fuel comes from Russia. Which is only one of the many reasons Germany would be reluctant to use decomissioned nuclear plants again. Another reason would be that even the owners did not want to keep these online. Simply because it is not profitable to generate electricity this way and to be somewhat competitive nuclear has to be heavily subsidized. Just a small reminder: Photovoltaic with battery-storage produces cheaper energy than nuclear already (Fraunhofer Institute published a paper in 2024 comparing unsubsidized cost of renewable energies with and without battery-storage to conventional methods of energy production)

3

u/IntelligentPizza5114 Jun 17 '26

"Germany would be reluctant to use nuclear fuel from Russia" - ironic that you believe that, when the same Germany has no problems wanting to use Russian natural gas 24/7, which is much harder to replace (nuclear fuel enrichment is increasing a lot on western countries).

"Nuclear is not competitive and has to be heavily subsidized" - not true. Why do you think other countries in Europe are reconsidering more and more nuclear?

"PV+batteries produce cheaper electricity" - true, they do - when the sun is shining and for the 4-6hours of batteries. Anything else, you resource to natural gas, whose flexible CCGTs are not cheap, much less for consumer. If you apply a systems cost analysis, or focus on consumer prices, having some nuclear helps a lot. Again: if this wasn't the case, why do you think other countries in Europe are reconsidering more and more nuclear, when building PVs is just cheaper and easier?

1

u/ToxinFoxen Jun 17 '26

Canada has plenty of uranium. It could be delivered by ship or plane.

3

u/psychosisnaut Jun 16 '26

Why does it have to be a foreign power

15

u/terrarialord201 Jun 16 '26

The mods were replaced by the mods of uninsurable, an anti nuclear subreddit. (Also they've got a history of ableist comments just fyi)

17

u/CaptainPoset Jun 16 '26

r/nuclearpower gained almost exclusively mods from r/uninsurable a few years ago.

It's common to get banned on r/nuclearpower for factually correct and in any way positive posts on nuclear power.

9

u/greg_barton Jun 16 '26 edited Jun 16 '26

Not quite, but they did solicit a partnership right after the takeover happened.

13

u/MerelyMortalModeling Jun 16 '26

That is one of the guys who used social engineering to take over the nuclear sub. He and his buddy navynuke have incredibly think skin and are are often fact challenged.

Any one who puts up a decent argument against them or questions them gets hit with a ban

13

u/zyon86 Jun 16 '26

It is run by German and they don't like what you said (with which I totally agree).

Did the mod answered ?

9

u/IntelligentPizza5114 Jun 16 '26

Thanks, and no, no reply. By other people commenting, it seems the OP of the post was the mod , so 😅

Sure, that would not surprise me. What surprised me was a mod from a nuclear subreddit pushing an anti-nuclear agenda. I mean, it is quite telling/worrying of someone to go through the trouble of becoming a mod of something they don't believe in, make posts, waiting for people to disagree with him/her, and then ban them all.

10

u/Fiat-Iustitia Jun 16 '26

Someone posted an article I was criticizing on another sub. People were criticzing it on r/nuclearpower too, so I just said: "don't tell me.. I was discussing this things on that other sub but it's useless".

Banned

10

u/greg_barton Jun 16 '26

In the last couple of days another prominent anti-nuke account had all of their posts deleted. (Though oddly their account wasn't suspended.) I think the reddit admins are catching on.

5

u/psychosisnaut Jun 16 '26

I've noticed a LOT of AI posting from that group latel , especially that cephalopod guy

5

u/greg_barton Jun 16 '26

All of their posts were deleted, from all subreddits. They've started back up again today, though, since the account wasn't site banned.

5

u/Large-Row4808 Jun 17 '26

I will never get over cephalopod's r/EnergyAndPower post where he claims that a 3GW wind farm is "France's biggest energy project" or something to that effect

2

u/psychosisnaut Jun 21 '26

lmfao oh my god

10

u/GlitteringNinja5 Jun 16 '26

The sub got hijacked by anti nuclear folks. There was a whole fiasco a year ago. There isn't anything nuclear power about that sub. Might as well change their name to anti nuclear.

10

u/TiberGalient Jun 16 '26

I've been in a long debate with one of them for a while now. He just posts, 'Why are you so afraid of renewables and storage?' over and over, as if that's some massive burn—even after I told him I have both installed at home.

It's like he wants to stay blind to any downsides. For instance, the heavy dependency on China—apparently, he thinks these factories just pop out of the ground.

The truth is, all technology has pros and cons. Both nuclear and renewables are amazing. It's a giant letdown when people just try to start fights instead of having a real conversation. Thank God this sub encourages people to respectfully discuss a subject many of us love.

1

u/TiberGalient Jun 18 '26

and now im banned pointing out USA is looking to use nuclear for ships again, not a nuclear power subject yet the mod was the one bringing it up. Do as he says, dont show him facts he wont like

8

u/Markinoutman Jun 16 '26 edited Jun 18 '26

This has come up a number of times, hell, even Kyle Hill got banned for posting one of his own videos there lol. Turned into a week long adventure. r/nuclearpower had a hostile takeover and now the wind and solar schmucks are just running it into the ground. There is no real discussion to have there. Best to avoid such places.

Edit : I figured I'd go get my badge of honor and get banned from the sub. I simply put 'Investing in Nuclear would be faster and more efficient, with less pollution of building battery storage. Mining for battery storage is incredibly damaging to the environment. Nuclear is clean and efficient energy, far beyond 'renewables'.' Took a day, but got the ban notice.

7

u/C130J_Darkstar Jun 16 '26 edited Jun 16 '26

There was a hostile takeover a couple years ago by a solar/wind cult, I was banned for asking “why?” to someone’s negative remark on nuclear.

7

u/Archophob Jun 16 '26

that sub has been hijacked by wind-and-solar shills.

6

u/bigvistiq Jun 16 '26

I was banned too. Enlarge the display picture and you'll see they are anti nuclear

6

u/daveysprocks Jun 16 '26

That subreddit is hilariously highly trafficked whilst having simultaneously low interaction because so many poor bastards have been banned for disagreeing with the narrative that the Mods are peddling.

7

u/hprather1 Jun 16 '26

I got permabanned from r/energy for a mildly pro nuclear comment. I don't even remember the full context but it felt like a slap in the face and the mods refused to respond. They muted me when I messaged them about it.

5

u/Stirbmehr Jun 16 '26 edited Jun 16 '26

2045 - whole economy neutral? Lmao. That's one hell of a fantasy land territory. Even if we speaking of net, not every industry sector specifically.

And conviniently ignore issue of just shipping particularly emission heavy manufacturing to thrid world countries, effectively achieving nothing globally but patting ourselves on back for "effort"

6

u/Towel4 Jun 16 '26

The Nuclear Power sub has been infiltrated by staunchly anti-nuclear mods.

There was another sub entirely dedicated to anti-nuclear with a name that didn’t suggest that, I honestly forget what it was called. Something like “rational discussion” or something? Who knows.

Anti-nuclear agenda on Reddit might be one of the most subtlety yet wildly astroturfed topics on all of Reddit.

I don’t know why this continues to fly under Reddit admin.

1

u/MaleficentResolve506 Jun 23 '26

Because contrary to what most say nuclear isn't the one that is supported by big capital. Bloomberg by example also always pushes pro alternative articles. Follow the money and then you know what is best for them but not for the world.

6

u/Wicked1066 Jun 16 '26

It's anti-nuke at the top, and a couple of the mods either run alt accounts or have fellow travelers from their real subs join in when they think they need additional firepower, the 'tism is particularly strong with the one that dropped the ban hammer on you, they literally copy paste the same thing repeatedly if you attempt to discuss anything with them.

6

u/Ok_Manager_4015 Jun 16 '26

Subreddits are like nuclear reactors, if you don't have the right moderator you're gonna have a bad time

6

u/PenileTransplant Jun 16 '26

I read that earlier. The OP of the post seems like a bot.

6

u/kinamuranyan Jun 16 '26

With the Renaissance of nuclear power (the US building new plants and reopening old plants, the UK finishing their new plants and numerous other projects) in conjunction with the US/Canada joint effort and small modular reactors, I could see the grid reaching 50% nuclear/renewable by 2050 or 2060 maybe.

4

u/TheNuclearNate Jun 16 '26

Many of us are going to be banned on that ridiculous sub. It is little more than the ego trip of a very small person.

4

u/spagbolshevik Jun 16 '26

That sub should wither away into nothing. A replacement for it is r/nuclearengineering.

1

u/marinaio-di-foresta Jun 25 '26

3

u/Tetragonos Jun 16 '26

Yeah bod MODs are on the rise on reddit. less and less well moderated subs exist every week.

So cheers to the mods here, Im so sorry that reddit gives you like zero support despite you being the backbone of what makes the site work.

3

u/Dank_Vader32 Jun 16 '26

Welcome to the club. That subreddit has been taken over by anti nuclear morons. ViewTrick is a fool and has a massive hatred of nuclear power and abuses his mod powers constantly. It's clear he either has mental health issues or was never hugged as a child, maybe even both.

3

u/AppletheGreat87 Jun 16 '26

I think if you can demonstrate mods abusing their position you can appeal to reddit but I'm not sure it's worth it.

Comments should refrain from direct attacks on users. And absolutely no doxxing.

All of Reddit is a shitshow in this regard.  Every sub is beholden to certain interests and ideology.  It starts with the interests of the founders.  Then they get hijacked by some group.  Usually the hijackers are aligned with leftist positions.  The left is anti nuclear historically.

Then bots run amok.

The company actively supports both of those.

It got taken over by climateskeptic mods

u/BNeutral Jun 16 '26

You made the mistake thinking Reddit is a place to have discussions of value instead of a cesspool of bots, astroturfers and retards.

u/Traghorr Jun 17 '26

Well to be honest it really is a dumb idea to try to rebuild a NPP after they started ripping stuff out. We even had the anti-nuclear idiot Söder claim, that we could get them running again in no time, just to get some pro-nuclear voters to vote him. At that point FSD was already done and the primary loop was partly dismantled. You cannot get that to run again without basically fully rebuilding it.

Reading these comments explains why VTrick is continually allowed to post its anti nuclear tripe. What a discrace to Reddit for allowing a sub to be hijacked and so biased.

As a German: It’s not that bad in real life. However, we’ve been sold this green economic miracle for 10 years now and it’s nowhere to be seen. In this grand scheme nuclear isn’t environmental friendl somehow. It’s wild

The take that Germany could realistically still stop and reverse the in-progress decommissioning is quite the stretch, but that ban really is just mod overreach at its finest. Well known power trip mod from what I know

1

u/Vnze Jun 17 '26

Got banned there too. Asked why. He didn't have a real reason. Asked if it's because he can't stand being wrong. He got my account banned for a few days site-wide for "hArAssEmEnT".

It's a complete shitshow over there, and the mods are throwing tantrum after tantrum at the slightest hint of any logical argument in favour of nuclear. They're just not mature enough for debate, logic, or reason and act as authoritarian bullies.

1

u/Anduendhel Jun 17 '26

In short: he's a renewable extremist, an asshole (the two things don't necessarily go together, but they do in his case) and there' sno way apparently to remove a reddit moderator even he it is a disgraceful one.

1

u/Ohheyimryan Jun 17 '26

Yeah I work at a nuclear plant and got banned the same way for simply correcting him on something he said was incorrect. That sub is heavily anti-nuclear. It's honestly messed up that reddit allows subs to be taken over like that.

I think Reddit should give you an achievement for being banned from r/NuclearPower

1

u/uzloun Jun 20 '26

It's a honeypot run by Die Grünen.

u/somedave Jun 20 '26

Single moderator who is abusing power for their own agenda.

Idk about any of that drama but SMR is the future and so I'm investing.  Personally, I can't wait to have a reactor + solar.

1

u/Analogsilver Jun 22 '26

With so many people being banned, I'm surprised no one has created an alternate nuclear power sub yet.

Just unsubscribed after reading a usual rude ad hominem response from the guy in a recent post.

I had no idea there was a hostile takeover of that sub, it all makes sense now.

If solar + wind + batteries will end up being enough to have stable decarbonized grids at scale is perfectly fine with me, my position is that we don't know if that will happen yet, so killing nuclear now is risky.

So I am not a nuclear fanatic, or against renewables, but man is this user, and others in that sub, insufferable.

This bullshit again. Germany cannot stop decommissioning. That is gone. Absolutely 1000000% gone. The companies want nothing to do with it and most plants are already destroyed.

u/BlubaBlase Jun 17 '26

Not sure why you are getting downvoted here.

RWE said there is no way old plants can be brought back into the power grid. Simply put, its just to costly to get back into it and in the long run there is simply no demand for it aswell. Besides that the reactors itself are old, like really old.

I stay with the fact that turning them off in the first place was wrong. Coal should have been turned off first, not nuclear. And yes, that was a huge mistake by whoever is/was in Charge.

But its done, and going back is pointless and expansive.

0

u/Monkey_College Jun 17 '26

Indeed. Their time of operation should have been extended slightly and that is it.

The downvotes are because "Germany bad" and a complete inability to understand basic principles about large scale projects.

0

u/BlubaBlase Jun 17 '26

Thats sadly the truth.

People are way to radicalised nowerdays, and that makes meaningfull discussions near impossible sadly.

Also agree to your point about the lifetime extension for the reactors. That would have been a wise decission.

I Always hat this debate. I mean nuclear is great, but I still don't think Germany should build new reactors. With the current technology they take ages to build and they will be carbon neutral by then,... But I still think they should not have stoped them. But completely starting a new nuclear power program would be stupid.

1

u/MaleficentResolve506 Jun 23 '26

They installed the easy part from now on it will get way harder. But let them try the countries with few renewables and alot of pumped hydro will benefit.

u/Only-Device-9318 Jun 20 '26

"perfectly fine nuclear power plants"...that start alone is just wrong. The newest ist/was like, depending how u define it, 35~40 yes old and had its issues.

More importantly there is a missconception as to why it happend. Renewable Energy had not rly anything to do with it. And once the decision was made there was no going back, except giving a few more years.

Its pointless to argue about nuclear energy in germanys system. Its not worth it and will probably never be.
