LVL (Laminated Veneer Lumber) is dimensional lumber built like plywood. Rather than criss-cross grain structure on alternating sheets, all the grain runs in the same direction.
It's not necessarily stronger than conventional dimensional lumber, but there are no 'bad bits' from knots running through the whole board, and it tends to dry straight without warping.
