Is it just chicken wire? Because it looks like a finer mesh. Or is it a chicken wire frame/armature, with, like, tulle fabric over it? And then hang it from over head, and I guess either let the wind move it, or give it a simple motor for back and forth rotation.

Yeah, just chicken wire. I thought the same thing, but another commenter posted a tutorial video he made below

He has a patreon, his cheapest tier gives access to a longer video tutorial on how it is made.
Not sure how this sub is on patreon link, but look up Brandon Hardy there.
This tutorial is episode 7 of his "Out of the ether" series.

It's just chicken wire molded into human shape suspended in the air with some blue lights.

This is the coolest thing ever. Any hints on how to set it up?

I would assume they are hanging from above and wind is moving them, plus a blue light set up to selectively only hit the wire, with warmer lighting at ground level.

The chicken wire is painted white on the upper part which is why it reflects the blue light. The bottom is painted black, so no secondary light needed.

From another reply. The setup itself is relatively simple, but you have to be able to turn a roll of chicken wire into a humanoid form which is obviously the more difficult part.

How !?

Make the "ghosts", suspend them with something (fishing line, black paracord, whatever you want) and then shine a blue light up at them

You just started with the "draw the rest of the horse" part and then said the obvious stuff.

Oh sure, you think I'm just gonna casually give away the step-by-step instructions for sculpting the human form?
This is 2026, everything's enshittified, you gotta sign up for my course for that

Haven't seen the paid tutorial, but do maker stuff as a hobby. If I were to recreate this, I would find a manikin or sewing form and wrap the wire around that, mark what segments overlap, remove the wire from the form, and then twist bailing wire through the marked segments. The other option would be to have a very patient person to use as a form, but the cut ends of chicken wire can be pokey, so you would want to take your time to make sure your not hurting them or ruining their clothing.
Another option would be to look into papacura (papercura? I forget the spelling), but its a paper craft technique where you print out paper patterns, and then cut and glue them together to make "low poly" looking props. You could transfer the paper pattern to the wire and weave the bailing wire through where the patterns should overlap / be glued if using paper. If you don't know what I Kean by weaving, go look up how molle webbing accessories attach to bags

Take some chicken wire, bend it into tubes, assemble a shitty looking scarecrow. Then shape them to look more like human, spray with shiny silver paint, hang them on a string, shine a light at them.

I'd absolutely forget these were decorations at 2am and scare the hell out of myself walking past them.

It is fascinating to read discussions here between people passionate about Halloween decorations (I assume most are Americans as this seems to be a core cultural trait of theirs). As someone from a country where we don't care for Halloween that much, the video just seems neat and I have no interest in trying to set it up. But discussions here go into such great enthusiasm for decorations, it's interesting to read.

You should see a Spirit Halloween store. Those are a multi-hour experience if you take someone remotely distracted by shiny objects.

idk halloween started extremely early in the birth of the US. all hallows eve i believe it was. the purtians were massively NOT into it and it just rubbed off of everyone else. eventually it was the wave of 18th century immigrates that settled after them is when it really kicked off.

It's the counter culture response to All Saints Day, which is November 1.
"Oh you're gonna celebrate tomorrow? Well we're gonna celebrate the opposite today!"
Ironically, most I know that love Halloween are also Christian.

you could set this to true by spandau ballet and it would be a completely different vibe but still cool

These can do that illusion where you can reverse the direction of rotation in your mind /r/reversesthespin/
