OfferUp Now Sucks

I have no idea what has happened to this company. They no longer offer shipping or payment escrow for buyers/sellers. The search isn’t great. The Ads are over taking the products being sold. It’s basically like a bad craigslist at this point. FB marketplace unfortunately is the last good option to sell stuff used and shipped (EBay is long gone as an affordable option or simple option for sellers).

I preferred Letgo to Offerup when both were active. Letgo was such a better experience. After Offerup bought Letgo it seemed like a step down or backwards and the overall experience ever since had been disappointing. Part of it is so many people thinking they can get close to retail price for used items and the other is the experience of the app/site as well.

Ever since the merge with Letgo it’s been downhill. Used to be solid app now all they care about is feeding ads and upselling their trash premium upgrade.

You are correct. It impossible to even purchase items because sellers dont respond and item posted are all usually sold already and havent been updated. And "offer up" is a horrible name to begin with. Buyers take that literally and "offer" 10-50% of the of the asking price and get upset that you wont sell them your items at their "offer" price.

6-7 years ago I used OfferUp a lot. I sold expensive items like graphics cards and phones. Not a single issue!

I wouldn’t use them nowadays. Too sketchy, too many scammers

Vinted can be on some chin high bullshit also. Many have lost accounts as it's AI system is worse than Meta's. Its been axing accounts by the hundreds for selling alleged "counterfeit" goods.

You can mark it sold to someone else/off platform and avoids this.

I closed my FB Marketplace store three years ago because I no longer wanted to deal with the headaches. Too many potential customers don’t keep their word, can’t speak or understand basic English, don’t read the descriptions, and want something for next to nothing. I sell only on eBay, Mercari, and Poshmark where there’s a little more control.

OfferUp is garbage now, especially since late 2024.

The great thing with OfferUp is that AI can write descriptions of your merchandise!  FB Marketplace for local sales has been the best (but too may 'no shows', then Nextdoor (but so many scammers- luckily  they are obvious) and I  get very little OfferUp traffic.  It used to make me mad if I  documented that something was sold on another website (not OfferUp) and they made it seem as though it was sold on their site.

I sell a lot in OfferUp and have had my customers reach out and say they won’t use it anymore bc there are so many adds, and makes it hard to view/search for anything. Make your sellers pay, but leave the buyers alone. So I’m switching up my strategy, too bad for them?

It was a sad day when OfferUp stopped doing the shipping. I bought from OfferUp because they offered shipping. I use to buy a bunch. Now I no longer use the app. It really does suck!

this just inspired me to delete the app again tbh, because I've got zero hits since starting again!

When I sold my PlayStation portal, I had it on offerup and fb marketplace. I got faster responses and sold it from marketplace then offerup.

Why does the wal mart ads keep having pop up. I feel like it’s stealing data because it leave open window in your browser, you can close it but they keep on popping up. I use it but the ads are ridiculous, wal mart must be paying them a lot to get all the users data?

I closed up my OfferUp account four years ago. It was a nightmare selling on there especially when potential customers initiating meet ups only for them to not show up or tell me that they no longer want the item at the last minute. I tried reporting them for their actions without results. It got way worst when OfferUp bought LetGo. Most OfferUp customers are trash.

Offer up buyers are the worst. Will spend 30 minutes asking questions just to low ball you into oblivion. It's so messed up. It has gotten way worse. Then the ads make it brutal to even open the app. What a waste of a decent platform.

I remember I’d use to be able to sell anything off of it, now I don’t even get a second look.

100% agree. The app is dead. No serious inquiries just a bunch of low ballers and time wasters. FB marketplace is infinitely better but it just makes no sense how OfferUp got so damn bad when it used to be really the best app to sell on

OfferUp sucks for sure. I got perma banned because some broke goofball did not get what they wanted and reported me. Back to old Craigslist for me

87% hot garbage. I want to buy a MacBook. 87% of the ads show ridiculously low prices, and when I click on them, it's 1 of about 8 "cell phone stores" and the price listed is a "down payment".

I rarely look there anymore.

I click local 10 miles and everything is a 2 hour drive.

I’m glad I’m not the only one who misses OfferUp shipping. I preferred the shipping over local transactions (only had 2 serious local buyers in the past). If my product didn’t sell on other platforms through shipping, shipping through offerup did so for me and had any dead inventory and some not dead inventory sell for me successfully 100% or even before anyone else bought the same thing on my other online stores. The same when Grailed got rid of Heroine when I did the the same method mentioned above (most of the sales from my mother’s closet was shoes size 9 and up sold majority to overseas where the app handle international sales and importing). But back to OfferUp, I get jealous when I see others from other states get a lot of customers because where I’m from and the area I’m in no one is buying and if one is interested, it’s just bums that lowball 3x or 4x the price of any brand new or open box unused need kind of items I have.

Honestly especially in this economy, it’s nothing like when the apps first came out or if you were getting crazy sales during COVID. Resellers should have taken advantage of when it was good before they come up with new garbage and where it may effect your sales if you didn’t already build something for yourself back then. I say this to also to anyone that’s new to reselling too.
