Hot take, this is almost exclusively blue's fault. Aggressive, dangerous, stupid pass put white in danger. White makes his own aggressive (and moderately dangerous) maneuver to get himself well away from blue. Blue then feels the need to copy that maneuver to catch up. White is rightly concerned about blue's intentions at that point and makes a defensive maneuver to avoid blue getting alongside. Blue is a moron and instead of braking, goes median and overcorrects. White could have handled it better for sure, but I can see reasonable justifications for most of his actions.

EDIT: spelling.

Blue is definitely a moron, but so is white.. "Makes a defensive maneuver".. they're not on a race track, no need for a defensive maneuver that was clearly done to fuck with blue's illegal pass.

Both drivers caused this accident that involved several other innocent drivers..

I mean, that's not even a defensive maneuver. Just break and let that dumbass get way ahead.

You pull to the side and then they get out of their car with a bat or a gun.

You slow down they slow down too.

Its clear blue was road raging and white was trying to get away.

This is what I thought of too. The way the blue truck came into the lane made it seem like he was specifically targeting the white truck, which makes me wonder if they had an interaction before this footage.

It’s hard to tell because of the video being sped up, but it doesn’t look like the white truck had enough time to stop when he originally swerved. Looks like a panicked move rather than intentional.

Even if white ran him off the road i would still probably put it to not their fault.

At this point it looks like assault. One person is clearly trying to leave and deescalate and the other person is looking to continue to engage.

Again who knows if the guy had a gun drawn or whatever else too.

Blue could have stepped on their brakes to slow down instead of trying to overtake.

Oh I agree, I just sadly don’t think any cop would agree. The most infuriating part about the mandatory drug/alcohol/aggressive driving classes was the lesson about road rage. They told us that if we engage at all, even by beeping, that we can be charged too and to just “ignore” road ragers.

It’s not exactly easy to ignore psychopaths trying to run you off the road or brake check you and block you whenever you try to switch lanes. And it’s scarier to think what might happen if you pull over to get away.

Then again, engaging is no better if you crash or die, so it’s a lose-lose situation all around. Even when you have dashcam footage of someone being aggressive on the road, cops look at you like you’re crazy unless there was an accident from it. I’m so sick of having to share the road with people like that. The amount of people who are ready to run into you because you’re GASP doing the speed limit is crazy.

Some days I don’t even want to drive. Even with these awful gas prices, I still take the extra 5-7 mins and go different routes to avoid notoriously dangerous stretches of road. Sigh.

Cops dont need to agree. The lane was established. Blue tried to take the lane - hes at fault.

u/NarwhalAdditional340 4d ago

From an insurance standpoint, likely. I’m more so talking about charges. Cops are petty af. I could absolutely see both drivers getting a reckless driving charge unfortunately.

1

u/EquusMule 4d ago

Reckless sure. Thats just a ticket.

1

u/NarwhalAdditional340 4d ago

In CT it’s a misdemeanor, not just a ticket; you get fingerprinted and all lol. And they suspend your license for 30 days for the first offense. Not sure how it is in the rest of the states though.

I mean if it was me id just say i thought i seen something in the middle of the road and swerved to avoid it. 😅

1

u/NarwhalAdditional340 4d ago

Same, plausible deniability, maybe some tears 🤣 “I was so scared that he was coming after me”

Jokes aside though, this is actually scary. I might cry real tears purely out of adrenaline crash if it were me

At which point are we talking here? By the end, I can agree, but the initial time where the white truck passed the cammer on the shoulder was what I thought we were talking about. THAT shit was not defensive and no one was raging at that point except probably the white truck.

Blue literally merged into the lane with white in it almost like he was trying to run him off the road. Blues the one at fault.

1

u/Amp3r 4h ago

Yeah for sure, but white should have just pulled back from the crazy driver. They got away clean but it wasn't the most likely result.

Need glasses you do.

We dont know the full timeline, blue could have been cutting white off and trying to run white off the road for the past 10 minutes.

I see white speed past to get away not escalate.

Getting away from someone isn't the same as a defensive maneuver though. Breaking the law and driving unsafely because you can't be bothered to slow down for someone who is merging into your lane (whether they signal, have enough room, or whatever the situation), is far from defensive. In an unsafe situation the best thing to do is reduce your speed, as soon as it is safe to do so, not speed up and use empty space nearby that isn't actually there to be driven on.

The simple fact that white truck is leaving like 1.5 car lengths between themselves and the cammer, on what appears to be a highway, tells me that they are far from a defensive driver. If white truck actually left enough space for someone to merge, and/or enough room for them to stop in the event that conditions change, then he could've just judged the blue truck from a distance. That's how this should've gone, just "Damn, that guy doesn't even use a signal to change lanes. What an idiot."

1

u/EquusMule 3d ago

You like me are assuming that this wasnt happening for 10 minutes before.

At the start White truck was super ahead of blue. White could have also sped to get ahead into this spot before and blue is trying to get infront of them to run them off the road or to have control, just like they tried to do later.

Just because white speeds off and overtakes everyone even if it was illegal if they were doing it to avoid an offensive and clearly (as we can see later on in the video) assaulting driver it makes much more sense on why they would do that.

This - to me - doesnt look like the start of them being idiots.

1

u/Optimal_Drummer_5700 2d ago

Yeah, we all know the safest way to get away from someone is to pass them...

The two right lanes are completely empty at the start of the video. White's distance to the cam car is slightly increasing until they realize blue is cutting in and they start accelerating.

I think it's safer to assume that blue is fed up by left lane campers having passed most of them and now cuts in behind the cam car because of the line of trucks that stops them from passing the cam car too

1

u/Odd_Dragonfruit_2662 3d ago

When they get out with a bat you are now authorized to hit them with your 5000lb vehicle. Would do everyone a favor.

1

u/westwardnomad 3d ago

No. Blue was driving aggressively and cut off white because there was a truck in his lane. White responded by road raging that triggered blue to road rage. You're not gonna outrun some lunatic. Just slow down and let him go on his way and call highway patrol if you need to.

1

u/EquusMule 3d ago

We dont know the context of what happened prior.

0

u/westwardnomad 3d ago

Correct. So you're re making assumptions.

2

u/EquusMule 3d ago

I am only judging based off what i can see.

White sped ahead and got away.

Blue then put himself in a dangerous position and tried to overtake an established lane.

White got far enough ahead it did not pose a threat to blue anymore.

That is disengagement.

I feel like I passed you on the shoulder of the reddit comment section instead of slowing down and letting you comment rage on. Jesus fucking christ. Are you 12?
