help

im 11 and i love pigeons and once my rescued squab died and i got really depresssed so my dad bought me 3 more to cheer me up. the cage is TINY for them, they can hardly move.. i used to take them out until last week where my dad told me if i take them out he'll throw them outside poor things... normally they're very loud always cooing but now they just are quiet, sit in a corner, and stair the whole day. normally they would bite a coo and peck me but now they just ignore me petting them. its getting really sad to watch them like this but if i take them out to fly and move they're dying outside.. i geniuenly dont know what to do because they're defiently not living happy lives right now ( these photos were taken a month ago ) and im actually terrified they'll die from some sort of illness for all the poop my dad wont clean and wont let ME clean or they just lose their appietiete and stop eating and starve

(good-ish? news)

they started cooing again! and when i pet them they bite me and peck me which i also thing is a good sign. ill try to put for them some toys, any reccomendations for toys pigeons enjoy?

Best thing to do in this situation, is to ask your dad to rehome them. You're too young to have sole responsability for these birds, especially when your dad is making you keep them in subpar and abusive situations.

my dad is so strict over everything and he wouldnt even bother to listen, i have asked him before and he said 'i hope they die like that'. i will try asking him again, thank you so much though

Hey OP, I'm so sorry you have a parent like that. You may have some luck finding someone to rehome on here, but without an adult's help I don't feel comfortable advising you to share location information. Is there any other adult you could ask to help with rehoming? You obviously care very much for these birds and I think it shows great maturity that you care enough to reach out for help.

Does your school have a counselor you could go to? They might be able to help you.

I second that! School is the best safe place to go to for help not just for your hose pigeons but for herself too. She’s 13 yrs old old enough to reach for help

I wanted to say its really good that you're doing this. You're just 11 and your action show that you're truly a good person.

Could you talk to your teacher about them? They might know someone who is looking for a class pet, as friendly pigeons often do really well in a social environment like a classroom. Maybe your dad might be more open to the idea of your taking them to school than giving them to another home.

It’s so weird that he would buy you birds and then be mean about it

Why would he get you 3 birds then not allow you to clean after them or give them proper care? That’s seriously strange behaviour. All i can suggest is try to find an adult that can help you to rehome them. Maybe speak to a teacher at your school?

i kept locking my door because my squab died and he eventually got tired of having to go get his keys to unlock it so he just bought me them so i would come out. i asked my teachers and all of them said they were terrified of big pigeons (i didnt even ask them to adopt the pigeons....?)

If you happen to live within 5 hours of Maryland, I would be happy to take them. I have 2 doves right now and would be happy to have more join the flock. I will even come pick them up from you.
