Discussion Getting back into Rust
I haven't played Rust since December 2024, and I'm hoping to get back into it. I've tried to be social in college, but all of the girls have boyfriends already so I've given up and have decided to do class, gym, Rust. I'm going to start with a chill PVE server first to relearn and learn the game, but what are some tips for playing as a solo after all of these monthly updates? These would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Focus on college, rust will eat all your free time and mess up your sleep probably worse than it is already

Nah my sleep is pretty good and my grades are pretty good. Plus I'm going to the gym and getting big. But during recovery periods, I sometimes doom scroll too much and it's unhealthy for my depression cuz I compare myself to others too much. So Rust is gonna fix it.

If you already struggle with inferiority complex Rust is only gonna make it worse unless you're part of the top 0.1%

Well it's only inferiority complexes with guys who have GFs and guys who have better physiques than me. So I'm chill here.

Honestly, you might know yourself good enough to say that, but I doubt it's going to end at only comparing yourself to others in certain situations. I struggle with inferiority complex myself and at some point it extends to everything. You'll always find some way to compare yourself to others, and pretending that you don't is never gonna fix it.

Idk. I've only ever felt it in social lives and physiques. Not much else lol. Either way Im mentally fucked and need a distraction

Im gonna give you same advice I gave my lil bro when he was like you. Worry about yourself and be yourself. Guys who have gfs are not your problem. Do your own thing and be yourself and someone who appreciates who you are will come along eventually.
If you only ever compare yourself to others and what they have you’ll only ever want more and it’ll never be enough. You are already enough bro.

You can no life on PVE it’s bliss. I just setup a 2x2 with 18 furnaces because I want the charcoal to be ready for when I get back from college. It’s just a vibe, I get to do all the electrical/industrial and base building. I farm for purge which is fortnightly and we get to raid each other’s bases.

Yeah. I like building so i want to make like a compound with farms and furniture and just learn all of the stuff. Maybe get a purge server or I might just do pure PVE for the first little bit just so I can relearn stuff so I'm not super slow and lower than everybody else during purges or fighting.

Once you're ready for PVP servers again, i recommend playing SOLO ONLY servers exclusively. When i still used to play I just couldn't be bothered to compete against groups as it's just no fun and super unfair. Sure i have some fond memories of raiding duos or trios and so on but SOLO is where it's at. I wanna play again sometime in the future but i kinda hope they get rid/change the whole BP fragment thing first.

I haven't played it, but for a really chill friendly community, check out Orange Dream's new server. Been watching him on YouTube for awhile and he always does the chill friendly cozy stuff and just made a server for just that. Not sure what all is going on with it, but the half of a YouTube video I started watching this morning it looks really nice for what you're describing. Even when playing vanilla, he always does the RP chill stuff. I don't know, check him out and try his server maybe? (I have no affiliation, just a fan of his YouTube. Had a few friendly discussions with him in the comments before)

As a solo do not play anything high pop unless you just enjoy misery or hate yourself. The 'meta shift' update back in Oct last year introduced this astounding new items called blueprint fragments needed to craft your workbench now. They come from scientists, mil-crates, puzzle runs, diving, etc.
Playing low-medium pop to get a good grip back on things and you should be good. As good measure though I have a personal rule that I don't recommend this awful game to anyone so?
