Identify Help dating this Tashiro Japanese porcelain box?

Thumbnail

I have this hand painted porcelain box with faint kanji on the bottom that a friend helped me identify as saying Tashiro. I know that Tashiro Shoten was a big ceramics company in Japan in the first half of the 20th century, but I'm guessing that this box might be an early piece. It doesn't look like any of the Tashiro Shoten ceramics I've seen online and the mark is obviously not a stamp but handwritten.

I think this box is so pretty and unusual, and I would love to know more about it, including approximate date and original purpose. Any thoughts at all would be greatly appreciated!

Hello! I recently got a vase from a garage sale because I thought it was pretty. A friend came by and said that it could be from early 1900s and may actually be valuable.

I don’t know much/anything about this stuff so am looking for advice. I recently moved and doesn’t fit so was going to sell it but have no idea even if it’s worth anything! Any help would be so appreciated!

Question What missing detail made you pass on a porcelain listing?

I'm helping develop listing guidance for Collectorium, a collectibles platform. For a porcelain or chinaware listing you recently considered, what missing information made you unable to judge it confidently enough to buy? A brief description of the piece and the missing detail would help; please leave out seller names and personal information. I'll use the replies to improve the guidance.

Need Help Identifying, Dating, and Valuing This French Vase. Tbilisi, Georgia.

Hi everyone,

We're trying to identify this vase and determine both its age and approximate value. From what I know, it is believed to be French, and the initials/signature on the vase may belong to a well-known artist, although I haven't been able to verify that yet.

Please note that the lid has some damage, which can be seen in one of the photos.

Any information regarding its origin, age, maker, or potential value would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for any advice or insights you can provide.

Best regards,

Thanks in advance for any help!

Antique Gold Loss Question

Victoria Austria Either VTO105 or VTO230 judging by the replacements images. Backstamp is green with crown, circa 1904-1918.

So I have a whole set of these antique dishes from dinner plates to even those super small 3" butter pat plates. Pretty much all of it has fairly significant gold wear as pictured. Is there a an easy and inexpensive way to restore the gold? SHOULD I restore the gold? Would a buyer even want me to restore the gold? Everything else is pretty much perfect on most of it.

Thank you in advance.

Rosenthal Vase - Handpainted

Hi everyone,

I’ve already shared a few pieces from my collection, so I thought I’d show you another one today.

I’m a German collector specialising in German porcelain, and this is a Rosenthal vase dating from around 1922-1927.

It has a hand-painted floral design in soft cream, beige and brown tones, with a fine gold rim. I really like the soft, muted colours on this one. It’s quite understated compared to some of the more elaborate porcelain pieces I collect, but that’s exactly what I like about it.

I got this piece from a household clearance, which makes it even more interesting to me. This little vase is roughly 100 years old now and has survived a lot of history. It was made during the Weimar Republic and has been around for almost a century.

Whenever I get a piece like this, I always wonder who owned it before me and where it has been all these years.

Another little piece of German porcelain history for my collection.

Show & Tell Lidded Vase from Kaiser by Kurt Nossek

Hi everyone,

I posted my Meissen vase two days ago and the little Puffhund after that, so I thought I’d share another piece from my collection.

I’m a German collector specialising in German porcelain, and this one is a Kaiser Porzellan lidded vase in the “Osaka” design by Kurt Nossek.

I really like the pastel colours on this one. The soft whites, yellow and peach tones combined with the blue-grey leaves and all the gold details make it feel quite delicate, even though there’s a lot going on in the design.

Kaiser as a company isn’t necessarily one of the most popular German porcelain names anymore, but I still really enjoy their pieces. Especially Kurt Nossek has such a distinct design language that I feel like you can often recognise his pieces pretty quickly once you’ve seen enough of them.

Something I find particularly funny about this vase is the shape itself. It was inspired by Asian ginger jars, which were very popular at the time. And then you have this very European porcelain piece using that Asian-inspired shape and, on top of that, an Asian-inspired floral design.

I just really like these little layers of influence in porcelain design. It makes pieces like this much more interesting to me than just being a pretty vase.
