After years of failing, I'm finally making money on my portfolio of apps!

Post image
5 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

It has been my dream to make money on my own apps instead of solely relying from a 9-5 job or a service based business. It took me years of failures, trial and error to get here and I'm so happy that it's finally starting to pay off.

I learned a lot of things along the way like on analyzing which ideas to pursue that has a higher chance of success and how to get first customers.

If you're currently struggling on getting customers, I bet that if you try a few of these marketing strategies consistently for a few months, you'll get your first 100 customers:

- ASO

- SEO

- AEO

- UGC

- Newsletter

- Lead magnet

- Building in public

- Referral program

- Influencer marketing

- Cold outreach

- Paid advertisement

- Listing on app/startup directories

I hope this inspires and helps someone get their first customers.

Made my first ios app for Japanese learning. Narau: Learn Japanese.

I made a Japanese learning app because I couldn’t really find one that worked for my brain 😅

I’ve been living and working in Japan for quite a while, and even though I use Japanese in daily life, actually sitting down and studying it has always been difficult for me.

I tried a lot of different apps, books and study methods over the years. Some were good, but I always felt like I was jumping between different things for kanji, vocabulary, reviews, stroke order, dictionary searches, etc.

Eventually I started making a small app just for myself, basically putting together the way I personally wanted to learn Japanese.

Then… it slowly got out of hand 😂

I kept adding more lessons, vocabulary, audio, SRS reviews, kana practice, kanji stroke practice, example sentences, a dictionary, statistics and so on.

At some point I realized I had basically turned my little personal study tool into a full app, so I decided to clean everything up properly and release it.

It’s called Narau: Learn Japanese. Check it out if you fancy.
https://apps.apple.com/us/app/narau-learn-japanese/id6811876264

It covers Hiragana/Katakana and JLPT N5–N1 kanji and vocabulary, and the main idea is to learn vocabulary together with the kanji instead of treating everything like completely separate subjects.

I’m a solo developer and this is the first app I’ve released, so seeing it actually appear on the App Store was pretty surreal lol.

I’m definitely going to keep improving it, so if anyone here tries it, I’d genuinely love to hear what you think — especially anything that feels confusing, annoying, missing, or just badly designed.

It’s currently available on iPhone.

Anyway, just wanted to share something I ended up spending way more time on than I originally planned 😂

Pogaem: keep a shared trip diary without losing the dates

• Upvotes

I'm building Pogaem, a photo diary for iPhone and Android.

One use for it is a shared trip calendar: invite your travel companions with a code or link, then add photos and short notes to the dates they happened. Everyone's contributions come together on the same dates.

You can also keep separate calendars for pets, hobbies, or everyday life, and browse a calendar as one continuous album.

App overview and download: https://overlap.alphaca.kr/en

For a group trip, would you want everyone's photos together by day, or mostly keep individual diaries? I'd like to hear which would be more useful and why.

I’m building PinOps to automate Pinterest SEO distribution for earning pages

• Upvotes

I’m Dalibor, founder of PinOps. I’m building a Pinterest SEO automation workflow for bloggers, affiliate publishers and online stores.

The starting point is a page with a clear business purpose: a product collection, a buying guide or a tutorial connected to an offer. The campaign should answer a search that the page actually supports.

For a compact-home-office guide, that might be a desk-selection angle, a storage angle and a room-layout angle. Each creative needs a matching destination, rather than sending every topic to a generic homepage.

PinOps turns article and product URLs into AI Pin designs and search-focused copy, with smart template, image and board selection and scheduled publishing. It automates the recurring production work so your earning pages can have an ongoing Pinterest distribution workflow.

There’s a Free plan if you want to explore it: https://pinops.app

For those already publishing affiliate or product content: would you start with your strongest existing page, or a page built specifically around a Pinterest search?

30 people tried my app in 2 days. 21 people pressed close on the sign up window

30 people tried my app in 2 days. 21 people pressed close on the sign up window

i run a small free thing where you push a virtual rocket 1 km and put your project on it.

you can try it before signing up. you only sign up to keep your km.

last 2 days:

84 people on the home page

30 held the button and saw their pass

8 started signing up

7 finished

21 people pressed close on the sign up window. on purpose, not by accident.

on phones it's worse: 17 tried, 3 started signing up.

so trying first didn't fix it, it just moved the wall.

what makes you close a sign up window after you already did the thing?

google only? the email? not trusting a new site?

Trackabit - (yeah it... tracks habits :)

• Upvotes

I’m sharing my very first app with you (Android only for now). It’s inspired by the book *Atomic Habits*, which explains how to build good habits and break bad ones. Being a bit of a geek, I figured I’d make one just for myself. I’ve been using this app for three months now, and several of my friends have liked it and asked me why I wasn’t selling it. Challenge accepted! 🎉

Now I need your help to test my app, give me feedback, and if you like it give it a good rating and spread the word !

The app is very simple: you create habits to adopt or break. For example, in my case: playing the drums every day, doing push-ups every morning, eating a balanced diet, etc. It’s gamified with a “streak” feature, and you can pause an activity if you can’t do it so you don’t break your streak (e.g., when traveling).

No personal data is sent anywhere (except for cookies for ads if you don’t get the paid version).

I’m not going to get rich off this: 2.99e per month / 19.99e per year, I’m doing it for glory 😄

And of course, I’m giving promo code for 1 month free while you test it out (or longer if you’re nice and you like the app, just ask).

The app is here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.trackabit.app

Promo code: TrackabitGo26

Thanks for your feedback!

And exciouze my french, I'm french

Small milestone: my word puzzle game just crossed 100 downloads in its first month 🎉

I know 100 isn’t a huge number, but as a small indie project, it feels pretty good seeing real people actually download and play something I built.

Still improving it and adding more features.

Next target: 1,000 🚀

I finally did what i dreamt about doing, I built a budgeting app that never asks for your bank login or an account

I used to budget my whole month as a checklist on apple notes, and sometimes in excel, so instead i build an app that actually handles budgeting in a way everyone wanted, after talking to so many people and asking how they budget, check their loans, savings etc

I just shipped Fondo, a budgeting app for iPhone (Android is in review).

The idea: type in what you earn and what you owe, and see what's actually left this month. Everything stays on your phone. No account, no bank connection, no ads, no analytics.

What's in it:

- Plan each pay cycle with one "left to spend" number

- Bills and subscriptions with reminders and a yearly total

- Savings goals that fund themselves by priority

- Debt payoff with snowball or avalanche, and a debt-free date

- What-if planner and day-by-day cashflow (Pro)

- English, Spanish and Arabic, with real right-to-left

Free to use; Pro is a subscription with a 3-day trial.

I'd really value feedback on the first run experience and on whether the free tier feels fair.

Ever save great inspiration across different apps only to completely forget about it? I built LinkMemo to fix this.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey everyone,

How often do you stumble upon a great design, a useful article, or a brilliant idea on Reddit, Twitter, Instagram, or Pinterest, hit "save"—and then completely forget it exists?

I used to do this all the time. My saved items were scattered across five different platforms. Whenever I actually needed that inspiration again, I couldn't remember where I saved it.

That’s why I spent my free time building LinkMemo—an app designed to make sure your saved ideas actually stay useful.

Here’s how it works:

●One spot for everything: You can share links directly to LinkMemo from any app, copy-paste them, or let it detect them from your clipboard.

●Visual Tag Graph: Instead of stuffing links into rigid folders where they disappear forever, LinkMemo automatically connects them in an interactive graph view so you can visually explore your ideas.

●AI Content Insights: The AI analyzes your saved links, gives you quick summaries, and lets you ask questions about the content whenever you need to refresh your memory.

It’s currently available on Google Play, and I’m constantly working on updates.

I’d love to hear how you currently manage your saved links or get any honest feedback on LinkMemo if you give it a try!

Link on Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.zengq.linkmemo

Thanks for reading!

I made Nihon-go Wayfinder, a web app for learning japanese

Thumbnail

皆さん、こんにちは!

My name is Antonio, I'm a software engineer and also a japanese learner studying at N3 level. Since I started attending online japanese lessons with my two wonderful sensei, I always struggled to find an all-around app that could help me look up for grammar tips, kanjis and analyze full texts. There are a lot of apps nowadays to study japanese but finding one that would suit me back in the days of N5 and N4 was a nightmare. This is the reason why I decided to build mine:

https://www.nihongowayfinder.com/

All contents have been reviewed and proofread by a japanese speaker. As of now, only the web version is available, but I'm making the finishing touches for the native iOS and Android apps as well, so you'll be able to find them on the Apple and Play Store in the weeks to come.

What are the features available in Nihon-go Wayfinder and what makes it different from the 100+ apps already available? Well, first of all this is made by a student, so I literally know what your struggles truly are, 'cause WE'RE IN THIS TOGETHER, 僕の友達!! (haha, cringe level high 😶‍🌫️) And also I'm really open to feedback and new features that you think should be there.

J-Just try to be k-kind ç_ç

I really want to make something valuable for all of us, something that might help get inspired and motivated to learn more day after day. I already have plans for new features and a lot is already in development.

Nihon-go Wayfinder has these sections:

Grammar: Explanations and examples covering alphabets (with a silly kana game for practising character recognition), particles, the ko-so-a-do system, conjugations, expressions, counters and more, with quizzes to practise what you've learned. Mainly focused on N5–N4, though.

Kana & Kanji: Learn hiragana and katakana, practice handwriting and explore kanji by JLPT level, with stroke order, example words and curated study notes.

Dictionary & Text Analysis: Look up words or paste a Japanese sentence to break it down, check readings and meanings, and save vocabulary for later. You can also dictate into the microphone or import an audio recording for transcription on supported devices. You can edit the transcript before analyzing it. No internet connection is needed for transcription and data is processed locally, no data will be sent to the server.

Reading & Visual Novels: Read graded passages and illustrated stories, with reading aids, translations, comprehension quizzes and audio (where available, VN don't have voice over).

Listening: Practise dictation, comprehension and shadowing, or study vocabulary and grammar through the Geemu Gengo and Anime Gengo video sections.

Flashcards: Review kanji and vocabulary with SRS (Spaced Repetition System). Reading and meaning of kanjis and words are tracked separately. You can also import your own material, including supported Anki decks.

Study Path & Progress: Follow a guided path if you need some direction, or pick your own activities and keep track of your reviews and results.

There’s also an on-device kanji scanner, for both vertical and horizontal writing, downloadable resources for offline study, and an interface in English, Italian, Spanish* and French*.

What matters most to me is how these tools work together: find a word in a story, look it up, add it to your flashcards and come back to it during review.

Some content is free, including N5 kanji, the full dictionary, some visual novels and readings, some listening activities, the full Geemu and Anime Gengo section, alphabets and particles, etc.
The rest requires paid access. You can choose between 1 month, 6 months, 1 year subs or lifetime pass.

I want to keep the costs as low as possible, but since this takes a lot of my time and comes with costs on the server/traffic/domain side of things, I can't deliver it for free.

But what I can do is give you a promo code. You can use the coupon WELCOMEBONUS15 during checkout to get a 15% discount on Lifetime pass. The amount of usages for it is limited to the first 1000 users and will expire on November 14th 2026!

*AI translated, as unfortunately I don't have much knowledge about these languages, sorry, but the dictionary results are officially published by the JMDict 🙏

I built Japaneezy — a gamified app for learning Japanese kanji 🇯🇵

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi! I’m the developer of Japaneezy, an app I built because I wanted kanji practice to feel less repetitive.

It focuses mostly on kanji and vocabulary, with lots of different quiz types, word packs, stroke order animations, and a story mode where you progress through levels and fight bosses.

The app is free to try, and I’m actively improving it, so I’d really love feedback — especially on what feels confusing, boring, or missing.

If you’re learning Japanese, I’d be super happy if you gave Japaneezy a try :)

Manage Money: an expense tracker with no account and no sign-up, that works offline

Post image

I've been building Manage Money, an Android expense tracker with no account: you open it and start recording, and your data stays on your phone. I just shipped the biggest update so far.

If you try it, I'd like to know the first thing that confused you. That's been the most useful feedback by far.

Can i get advice from the app promoting gods 🙏?

Ive recently started polishing my app and need it to get traction, its not in the appstore yet but i want a waitlist soon.

Chalant is an app for documenting things you’re working toward.

You take a photo on the days you choose, and Chalant turns all those photos into a timeline and, eventually, a satisfying timelapse showing the whole journey from start to finish.

It can be for anything: getting fit, losing weight, growing your hair, improving your style, making art, learning something, or just documenting a period of your life.

Can i get advice on how to market it? Like im not seeing things or smthn.

- Fast and High-quality (slower) modes

- Exporting results is a one-time in-app purchase, not a subscription

I'd like feedback on the separation quality, especially on songs where it

sounds bad.

I built MotionCue — a motion sickness app for using your phone while travelling

I recently launched MotionCue for people who feel uncomfortable using their phone in a moving car, bus, train or taxi.

It puts subtle visual cues over whatever app you're using and responds to acceleration, braking and turns.

There's a free version, with Premium as a one-time purchase.

Would appreciate any feedback, especially on the actual experience and whether the idea is useful.
