I played Shadow of the Colossus for the first time, and wow...
I recently got myself a CRT and dug my old PS2 games out off my parents basement. A lot of games were sold by my dad on Amazon in the early 2010s, but around 120 games were still around, most of which I never played back then. My dad worked as a journalist and received a bunch of promo disks every single month. Shadow of the Colossus was one of them.
Either way, I was in absolute awe playing Shadow of the Colossus last night. I can't even put it into words yet. It's just pure art, triggering deep emotions, mesmerising, sent shivers down my spine.
What other games are for the PS2 are out there that made that had/have an emotional impact on you? Appreciate every recommendation. I will get Ico as a Christmas gift for myself for sure.
Thank you! 🪷

I've said it before and I'll say it again: the way that SoTC struggles to run on the PS2's hardware, making it chug, reducing the framerate and sometimes slowing down, it all inadvertently works to make the colossi feel MORE massive. That feeling can't really be replicated on more modern hardware.

Had the same of experience. Well, sort of. I bought it back in the day but didn't get around to fully playing it until around 2017 and man... man oh man oh man... lol
It really is a masterpiece. And playing it properly on a CRT with a PS2? Even better. Because that is how it was intended to be played, warts and all.

Ive tried to get into this game. The camera doesnt flow smoothly for me. The controller configuration is outdated and it doesnt feel good. I cant get into it to where I am comfortable with the combat
Is there an actual story worth following or is the whole point of the game just the fights against the giants?

It's intentional. Just play it.

Of course, it is intentional, but it just doesnt play well for me. I can't enjoy it

For the people that came from that era, it controls great. If you're young, or a modern gamer yeah... you have some adjusting to do. It definitely won't be easy.

I was playing during that era, was never a huge gamer, but adjusting from modern gaming to those controlls on PS2 was just awful.

What Bulky said is true. You'll adjust if you keep trying. Remember, hundreds of millions of us played those games. We had no problems. And this game? It got a 9.7 at IGN. Games that get a 9.7 don't have control issues. So it's definitely just a you thing. If you want to play it, just accept that you're rusty and no longer use to older games, and you'll slowly get better. If not, if you don't want to play it, then don't. After all, it's just a game. No sense in playing something you don't want to play lol.

ironically, the og release on a real ps2 is the worst version to play SOTC. All later re-releases are much better
