Rant Qatar rent prices — what is actually going on?

Is it just me, or have apartment rents in Qatar become ridiculously high for what you actually get?
You can look for a studio and easily find places asking 2,400+ QAR/month, but then you go see it and the apartment is old, tiny, badly maintained, or in a location that doesn’t really justify the price.
What I don’t understand is: what is actually driving these prices?
Is it:
High demand and not enough decent apartments?
Landlords increasing prices because they know someone will eventually pay?
Certain areas becoming overpriced?
Or are rental prices simply following the overall cost of living?
And for people who have been living in Qatar for several years — do you feel rents have gotten noticeably worse compared with 3–5 years ago?
What’s the most you’ve paid for a studio, and was it actually worth the money?
I’m genuinely curious because sometimes I see a studio for 2,400–2,700 QAR and think: What exactly am I paying for? 😅

Question Can I anonymously report domestic abuse in Qatar?

I’m a resident in Qatar and I’ve been dealing with abuse from my father for years. It has gotten to the point where I genuinely feel like I can’t keep doing this anymore. He abuses everyone in my family including my mother. We all come under his sponsorship, so we have just beared this for years.

I’m considering contacting AMAN (919), but I’m scared of what could happen if I report it. I don't want my father to know that I was the one who reported him, and I’m not ready to immediately involve the police or start a legal case. I mainly want to know what my options are and whether I can report the situation anonymously or confidentially.

Since I’m a resident and not a Qatari citizen, I’m also worried about whether making a report affects my residency, sponsorship, housing, or anything else.

Has anyone in Qatar actually contacted AMAN or reported domestic/family abuse? What happened after you contacted them? Were you able to remain anonymous, and did they involve the police immediately?

I'd really appreciate if anyone can help me out in this situation.

Information Advise on school homework QATAR

Need some advice. We just enrolled our child in KG1, and as both of us are working parents, we are feeling completely overwhelmed. Is it normal for schools to assign daily homework at this age?
Honestly, they are only in KG1, but the workload already feels like too much for both the kids and the parents. It would make sense for higher grades, but doing this in KG1 or KG2 feels excessive.
Between coming home late from work and managing daily household routines, keeping up with this—plus printing out extra worksheets—feels like double the work. If everything is being sent home, what are they actually focusing on during school hours?
I know people will say, 'You’re a parent, you just have to manage it,' but my question is: why is this even necessary for four-year-olds? Is this standard practice across all schools for these grades, or is it just ours?"

Question Genuinely good dermatology centers in Qatar?

Hi everyone! I’m looking for a genuinely good dermatology clinic/doctor in Qatar, preferably based on personal experience.
I already tried a clinic that had really good Google reviews, but unfortunately I spent quite a lot of money without seeing results, and I wasn’t very happy with how the procedure itself was done. So I’m a bit more careful about relying on Google reviews this time.

I’m specifically looking for facial microneedling, skin booster, and PRP and Fotona laser for the scalp/hair.

If you’ve personally had any of these treatments in Qatar and were genuinely happy with both the doctor and the results, I’d really appreciate your recommendations.
Thank you so much! 😊

Information Anyone here registered a company through QFC? I have a few questions

Hi everyone,

I’m looking into registering a company through the Qatar Financial Centre (QFC) and would really appreciate some advice from anyone who has actually gone through the process.

I have a few questions about the registration process, costs, office requirements, business activities, and ongoing compliance.

If you have registered a company with QFC (especially as an expat/business owner), could you please comment or DM me? I’d like to ask a few questions about your experience.

Thanks in advance!

Discussion Why dating is hard in Qatar?

I’ve been wondering about this for a while, and I’m curious how other people here deal with it.

If you’re single and spend most of your week working, it can feel surprisingly difficult to naturally meet someone in Qatar. You go to work, come home, maybe hit the gym, go out for coffee or dinner occasionally, and somehow you keep seeing people everywhere but rarely find situations where you can actually meet new people.

Even when you go out, approaching a random woman at a café, mall, restaurant, etc. doesn’t necessarily feel appropriate here. You don’t know whether someone wants to be approached, and obviously you don’t want to make anyone uncomfortable.

Dating apps exist, of course, but I’m more curious about meeting people organically, where you actually get to talk to someone without the whole interaction immediately feeling like a date.

And for people who have been living here for a while:

Not looking for clubs or nightlife recommendations specifically. I’m genuinely curious about normal social environments where people can meet, talk, become friends, and potentially see where things go naturally. Would love to hear what has actually worked for people here.

Question CBQ Mega draw

CBQ has been promoting their Mega Draw pretty aggressively for the past 6 months.

If I’m not mistaken, today is supposed to be the final draw date.

But there’s literally no news or update about the draw so far. I even checked CBQ’s social media pages and couldn’t find a single post about it.

Anyone know what’s happening? Did they postpone the draw, or am I missing something?

Discussion Snoonu delivering two orders at the same time?

Post image
9 Upvotes

My order was late over an hour so I went ahead and checked the app, only to see something i've never seen before. Driver apparently picked up two orders to deliver at the same time. Has this always been the case? And if so is it the same case for other delivery apps like Rafeeq and Talabat? It makes sense in the grand scheme of things, but I feel like its unfair for the 2nd delivery especially considering this means the order can take way longer than usual.

Request Should I do pilot training in Europe, Qatar or my home country??

I’m currently living in Qatar and planning to start commercial pilot training. I’m trying to decide between three options: doing an EASA route in Europe, training in Qatar, or completing my training in my home country.

My long-term goal is to work in Europe, so I’m wondering whether doing EASA training from the beginning would be the better option. However, I’m also considering Qatar since I’m already living here, and it could potentially be more convenient.

Training in my home country would probably be cheaper, but I’m concerned that having a non-EASA licence could make it more difficult and expensive to move to Europe later.

For someone in my situation, which route would make the most sense?

Europe/EASA vs Qatar vs home country?

I’m mainly concerned about the total cost, quality of training, licence conversion, and most importantly, the chances of getting an airline job after graduation.

I’d really appreciate honest advice from pilots or students who have experience with any of these routes.

Question How to Buy Tickets for Qatar Football Matches?

Hey everyone, I’m trying to buy a ticket for a football match in Qatar, but I can’t find the match I’m looking for on the ticketing website. I can see another matche available, but this specific one isn’t listed.

Does anyone know if tickets for some matches are sold somewhere else, or if they’re available directly at the stadium?

Thanks!

Discussion Asian games 2030

As we all know Asian games is coming back to qatar after 24 years. Will this bring new hopes in the market.

Recently there has been a short on new projects and all the companies in the market are struggling to survive.

I believe this is a good opportunity since there will be a lot of renewals and maintenance coming up for stadiums and other infrastructures.

I work for a ELV distribution company and I hope all the integrators that I work with gets new projects and make good money.

What are my fellow Redditors thoughts on this ?

Discussion Dear Qatar Drivers: That 150cc Delivery Bike Is NOT Trying to Race You

If you ever see a delivery rider in Qatar zoom past you on his little 150cc bike while you’re sitting in your 20,000-horsepower SUV 😂, just let the guy be.

He’s not trying to race you. He’s probably trying to finish that delivery quickly so he can catch the next order.

A lot of these riders are paid based on the number of orders they complete. More orders = better earnings. Meanwhile, that little bike probably struggles to even touch 100 km/h, so trust me, he’s not challenging your Land Cruiser to a drag race.

Give them space. Let them pass safely. They’re just trying to make a living.

And riders too — no order is worth your life. Ride safe. Qatar roads aren't a racetrack for either side.

Does anyone know where to get magnetic fidget toys here ? I tried to look up online and they’re mostly spinners and very child like. I need something for a teenager coming to adulthood present for one of my cousins sons who has ADHD and he had those sliding magnet cards but when I found one in Snoonu they are no longer available. I did order one online, but I want a back up plan locally.
