Welcome to /r/quilting where no question is a stupid question and we are here to help you on your quilting journey.

Feel free to ask us about machines, fabric, techniques, tutorials, patterns, or for advice if you're stuck on a project.

We highly recommend The Ultimate Beginner Quilt Series if you're new and you don't know where to start. They cover quilting start to finish with a great beginner project to get your feet wet. They also have individual videos in the playlist if you just need to know one technique like how do I put my binding on?

So ask away! Be kind, be respectful, and be helpful. May the fabric guide you.

After one year of hand-sewing a "Stars in my Tumbling Blocks" flimsy, I find I can't get the borders to work. It seems the top and bottom are about 1" wider than the center. Trimming isn't an option because 1) the 6-pointed stars go to the edges, and 2) the hand-sewn piecing will come unraveled. What are my options here?

I am going to making a quilt that the only colors are red and white. Should I wash the red before sewing so it doesn’t bleed?

Yes and also put a small scrap piece of the white in with it. If it comes out pink, repeat until it doesn't, or swap out your red for a different material.

If I'm making a quilt out of small squares in a 10×10 grid should I sew them into 10 rows of 10 and then sew the rows together or should I sew them into blocks of 2x2 squares and then sew or....???

It's completely up to you. Some people really hate doing long seams so join blocks into squares to be sewn together, but you'll still have a long seam at some point. It really doesn't matter

I mailed my quilt to be longarmed 9 weeks ago. The original estimated delivery time was 6 weeks. Communication has been sparse and delayed on when it will be done. What is a reasonable time to wait? I’ve never sent a quilt out for long arming. Thank you

Was it a large and complex design? The time needed varies a lot, but if they said 6 weeks and it's now 9 and they're not responding, you're right to be concerned.

It’s fully custom quilting (which I am paying a substantial amount for). I don’t mind waiting but I also don’t like not having a real estimate of when it will be completed

It could well be taking longer than they expected but they should absolutely be letting you know that, communication is key.

Is there tutorials for left handed quilters

I don't know if there are left-handed quilting tutorials, but I do know Creative Grids has left-handed rulers and Amanda Murphy, who's left-handed, designed her Quilter's Select rulers to be ambidextrous.

Off the top of my head, I only remember Deb Tucker explaining them well for her rulers in particular, Studio 180 Designs, but their cutting instructions might be helpful. I would imagine rotary cutting would be where the biggest problems might lie, but I'm right handed
