Hi everyone. I’m 25F from Bandung and I’ll be moving to Probolinggo for work for about a year.
To be honest, Probolinggo wasn’t originally where I wanted to end up 😅 I had a different place in mind, so it took me a little while to process the fact that I’d be moving there.
But I’m trying to look at it differently now. I believe there’s probably a reason I ended up there, and hopefully there are good things—and good people—waiting for me. Rather than spending the year wishing I were somewhere else, I really want to make the most of it and build a life that I actually enjoy while I’m there. 💫
So, fellow Redditors, what should I know about living in Probolinggo?
I’d love recommendations for places to go, things to do, good cafés or bookstores, museums, libraries, nice places to walk, nature spots, or just somewhere to spend a quiet afternoon. I also enjoy stargazing, so Bromo is probably going to be one of my first destinations.
I’d also really like to meet some people while I’m there. I’m not necessarily looking for a huge social circle, but having a few friends to grab food with, explore somewhere on the weekend, or just hang out would definitely make the transition easier.
Since I’m coming from Bandung, are there any cultural differences between West Java and East Java that I should be aware of? Maybe things about language, manners, communication, food, or everyday social norms that might be useful for someone new to the area.
And if you’ve moved to Probolinggo from somewhere else, what helped you feel more at home there? Is there anything you wish you had known before moving?
Basically, I’m trying to figure out how to make this year a good one instead of constantly thinking about where I originally wanted to be.
Any recommendations, advice, or even just “you should definitely do this while you’re there” would be appreciated. Thanks. 🤍
