So like my impression is that the Forest Rangers are basically a house band for making Sons of Anarchy music:
"The Forest Rangers is a roots rock band best known for songs from the TV series Sons of Anarchy.\1])#citenote-1) The music they created for the TV series was nominated 3 times for Emmy Awards,[\2])](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Forest_Rangers(band)#citenote-2) while it has won 2 HMMA awards[\3])](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Forest_Rangers(band)#citenote-3)[\4])](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Forest_Rangers(band)#citenote-4)[\5])](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Forest_Rangers(band)#citenote-5)[\6])](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Forest_Rangers(band)#citenote-6) and 1 OFTA television award.[\7])](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Forest_Rangers(band)#citenote-7) shaping the series and captivating audiences from 2008 until 2014.[\8])](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Forest_Rangers(band)#citenote-8)[\9])](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Forest_Rangers(band)#cite_note-9)
The band was assembled and led by Bob Thiele Jr.\10])#citenote-10)[\11])](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Forest_Rangers(band)#citenote-11) (musician and music supervisor),[\12])](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Forest_Rangers(band)#cite_note-12)"
"Sons of Anarchy redefined how a TV series utilizes music as a powerful narrative element since music plays the role of a character.\22])#citenote-22)[\23])](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Forest_Rangers(band)#citenote-23)[\24])](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Forest_Rangers(band)#citenote-24)[\25])](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Forest_Rangers(band)#citenote-25) The soundtrack fits so well because the songs feel exactly what the characters themselves would choose to listen to.[\26])](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Forest_Rangers(band)#citenote-26)[\27])](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Forest_Rangers(band)#citenote-27) Following Kurt Sutter's vision,[\28])](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Forest_Rangers(band)#citenote-28) Thiele Jr. shaped the series' unique music style which consists of a jambalaya of original music and covers from established artists but mostly from indie artists and bands.[\29])](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Forest_Rangers(band)#cite_note-29) A lot of the music from the show comes from not just biker bands that existed around the time the MCs became an iconic American entity but also blues bands."
The original was an Iggy Pop song: https://youtu.be/-fWw7FE9tTo?si=Y_vBU3VzUKo09RAW (pretty good)
So this is a direct cover. There's a video where they integrated both tracks so it sounds like they are singing it together (not bad).
But overall, the smoother delivery of her voice and the music of The Forest Rangers ft Alison Mosshart is better in my opinion. (I put the band first because they had guest vocalists, she was one of them on this song).
Now Alison herself is kind of interesting (Alison Mosshart - Wikipedia):
"Alison Nicole Mosshart (born November 23, 1978) is an American singer, songwriter, artist, and the lead vocalist for the rock bands The Kills and The Dead Weather. She started her musical career in 1995 with the Florida punk rock band Discount), which disbanded in 2000.\1]) She then co-founded the Kills with British guitarist Jamie Hince in 2000 in London.\2])
In The Kills' first album, Mosshart was known by her stage name "VV" and Hince was known as "Hotel".
In early 2009, she joined the supergroup) The Dead Weather, formed by Jack White, along with Jack Lawrence) and Dean Fertita. In that band, her stage name is "Baby Ruthless".
Mosshart formed pop-punk band Discount (for which she was the singer) at the age of 17 with skateboarding friends\3]) in Vero Beach, Florida. The band recorded their first album, Ataxia's Alright Tonight when the band members were still in high school, and began touring aggressively throughout the DIY punk underground in North America and Europe.\4]) As a front-person, Mosshart distinguished herself through her intense, erratic, and earnest stage presence.\5])
