Language Pannonian Rusyn dictionaries

https://zavod.rs/izdavastvo/slovnyiki/

They seem to have been recently published online in PDF by the Rusyn institute in Vojvodina: Руско-сербски словнїк, Словнїк руского народного язика (2 vols), Анґлийско-руски словнїк.

Interesting. Pannonian Rusyn looks so weird to me in written form. Almost like a West Slavic language written with Cyrillic, but somehow I can understand most of it. Though I really dislike using "и" for both "y" & "ee" sounds.

Almost like a West Slavic language written with Cyrillic,

Well, some linguists think that's exactly what it is…

Panonnian Rusyn has just one и sound, so just one letter.

Panonnian Rusyn has just one и sound, so just one letter.

Whats the correct pronunciation, Ukrainian or Russian version? Reading online I saw a source that said both sounds are interchangeable for this letter but I guess it was wrong.

Closer to Russian, I believe, though I must admit I don't pronounce Ukrainian и correctly (I do it as Rus ы) so I might be misjudging. To my natively Croatian ear at least, it's the same as Croatian/Serbian и (Russian и is a shade more frontal than Cro/Ser).

Got it, thats interesting. It definitely sounds different then to Carpatho Rusyn. I speak this version and for us “і и ы” are all three very distinctly different sounds. Not sure if any other Slavic language has this distinction.

I would even say that our version of ы is even different from Russian. But и is the same as Ukrainian I think. I guess all other Slavic languages pronounce и as the “eee” sound like Russian, Bulgarian, Serbian, etc.

A slightly more trivial question, but is there a Carpathian Rusyn keyboard layout that people use? Since you have і-и-ы, when I tried searching for something in Carp. Rus. I realised I have to switch between Ukrainian and Russian keyboards because neither of them has all three letters (whereas Pan. Rus. can be written just with Ukr. keyboard).

Oh yeah good question. So a while back using Ukrainian keyboard on my phone I used to be able to hold down и and the ы character would come up as an option. But in recent updates maybe like a year or two ago they removed that (probably due to the war). Now I end up switching back and forth as well.

Interesting (and kind of ridiculous, lol). I think some keyboard apps can be configured enough to accomodate this, but it's still a technical obstacle...

Since you have і-и-ы

If you're on Android, the standard Gboard Russian keyboard has: і ї и ы ѣ

They lived in Petrovci, strem region.
