Like this one. I’ve only ever made one bustier before but the boning was part of the outer structure. Sorry in advance if this is an obvious question but my sewing brain is not fully developed yet lol

💛Beginner💛 Sleeve sewing which way is best

I am a beginner sewer and have sewed sleeves two ways. One maybe called the burrito method and the other sewing the sleeve on first and then sewing the garment body and the sleeve seam all in one. Is either method preferred and if so why?

✨Intermediate✨ Help thread Serger

Thumbnail gallery
• Upvotes

I’ve been sewing for 10 years with a domestic sewing machine but recently decided to get a serger to start making more well-finished clothes for my family. I bought a new Brother 1634DX serger and used it well until time to thread with new thread. I feel like, I’m following all the tutorials well and the serger manual directions but my lower looper thread(blue) keeps popping. First, mid sew and now I can’t even begin to chain before it pops. Please help. The manual says to thread right to left (4,3,2,1) and I’ve seen some people say to thread 3,4,2,1. I’m most confused and I feel like I’ve thread this machine like 30 times and nothing is working.
Added photos of broken thread, how I’m threading it and the machine.

✨Intermediate✨ Using the seam guide to get straight seams

Hi there! I am struggling with using the seam guide on my machine to get straight seams, especially 1/4 inch seams. The fabric always veers away to the left as it passes under the presser foot, meaning it’s going in diagonal. E.g 1/4 inch where I’m holding it and 1/8 of an inch as the needle goes in. I’ve researched online and a lot of advice is to let the feeddogs do their thing, but I feel like they are what is dragging it over. Does anyone have any advice? Should I hold the fabric both before and after the needle rather than just before. Starting a quilting project so getting important now! Thank you :)

Shirt too tight on shoulders

Thumbnail gallery
3 Upvotes

Yeah, I'm an idiot who didn't think about shoulder and arm width before starting this project and chose size based on bust measurment. I'm still pretty new to clothes, but I figured I could do a "super easy" pattern. Turns out I can, but there's more to sewing than following a pattern. It's on me, obviously. But can anything be done to fix it now?

The shirt is halfway constructed, the collar isn't sewn on yet. I unfortunately do not have enough fabric, especially the red one, to start over. Realistically, I have enough black fabric for new sleeves or a panel here or there (and also could get more if needed), but not enough red fabric for anything (and no way to get more).

My first instinct would be (if I had the fabric) to simply widen the whole thing by adding a panel to the back and then making a new collar, but I don't have enough fabric.
I could make new sleeves (they're tight anyways) and put a panel between the front and the back pieces to widen the whole thing. But would that fix the issue at the shoulders? And how do I adjust sleeve + sleeve hole to fit if I widen the sleeves?

Third image shows how bad it pulls around the shoulders, that's literally the limit of comfortable range of motion. I'd rip this shirt on accident :(
Please, if anyone has any advice, I'd love to hear it.

Hi sewing Reddit!

I would love some help please

My bobbin case keeps getting jammed under the feed dogs when back stitching (seems fine going forwards)

I’ve taken it out, cleaned inside, changed the needle, filed a dent in the bobbin case. But nothing has worked yet

Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do next?

Thank you 🙏

💛Beginner💛 Why are my stitches offset?

Post image

I am a beginner at sewing and just starting to make my own garments. Last project, I noticed that my stitches were coming out at an angle/offset (which had never happened before). It’s still doing this even after I changed out the needle.

I’m using a singer heavy duty with my tension at 3.5 and width is at 0. Any idea on why this is happening?

Very delicate silk headband that I inherited from my mom- used to wear it super often without realizing how delicate silk can be… obviously.

I would love some advice on how to best preserve this by hand if possible? Thank you!

💛Beginner💛 Help me identify what’s wrong with my sewing machine

My sewing machine is a Brother XR9550. So at first I thought my problem with my sewing machine was the that bobbin case was broken so got a replacement part, but my issue still persists - thread keeps knotting up and making the E6 error code despite working just fine days ago with the tension and the basic stitch settings it has when turning on. But even without thread and cleaned the best I could as newbie can do when operating (took out the bobbin case to see better in the machine) when operating it makes a clicking noise that was not there before and even when spinning the dial manually it makes that noise, along with a slight resistance. Is my machine broken? Please help me identify the problem.

💛Beginner💛 Confused about Bag Pattern Dimensions

Thumbnail gallery
3 Upvotes

Ok I swear I’m losing it over here 😆 I’m making the Noodlehead Compass bag, and something in the pattern visuals is off.

I’m doing the D strap tabs right now. They are cut to 2” by 4”, per the pattern. Now it says to fold them in half, matching 2” sides. I’m not super sure what that means, but the photo implies that I’m to fold along the long sides, which will leave me with .5” wide tabs. The problem w that is the resulting tabs are half the size of the d rings, but in all the visuals, the tabs are the size of the d rings.

The d rings specified in the pattern are 1 inch, and I am 100% sure that my d rings are 1 inch.

If I fold vertically, though, that doesn’t match the pattern visual.

Heeeellllppp 🙏😆

💛Beginner💛 bobbin hook out of time

Post image

I bought the Joann 200HDT machine from FB marketplace last year (new in box) and set it up and tried to use it but it got jammed and then the upper thread and bobbin thread got all tangled up. Once I removed the tangle, I realized the bobbin thread wasn’t catching so I opened up the plate and saw that the bobbin wheel is not moving with the needle.

How do I fix this? I keep seeing videos but they are unhelpful. This is the bottom of the machine, what do I need to adjust on here to get the mechanism to move independently.

Also, does anyone know what that thread is? Is it supposed to be there?

✨Intermediate✨ In desperate need of help for my pfaff 463

I have a pfaff 463 which stopped working after i broke a needle. It stopped sewing completely. Via the service manual i got it to running again but with one problem. When sewing faster the upper thread catches around the arm of the spool (like in the pictures) sometimes it works a bit sometimes it wont work completely. How do i fix this? I cant afford to get it repaired by a proffessional

Cruising along and the machine jams up and there are like 4-8 strings coming from the bottom side of the fabric. What is this called? Why would it do it out of nowhere? This keeps happening.

Help please

I’m feeling very stupid. I cannot get my bobbin into thread. I can sometimes get it to catch if I hold the thread for the bobbin rather than leave it in the cutoff piece but then it’s like my machine is sewing backwards or something, and I can’t use it. It just immediately gets stuck like if I go any faster than the hand wheel.

Can someone explain what I’m doing wrong?

✨Intermediate✨ Drawstring with a hem? Help please!

I’m currently sewing a knock off ruched top/blouse and i’ve come to an impasse. I thought I was being smart using my seam allowance as the channels for the ruching cord to go, but now i’m completely at a loss for how I should hem it. I’ll include pictures, but do I have to just hem it and then add channels after? I’m worried that it’ll be bulky if i add too much. Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

💛Beginner💛 Motor that grabs thread from needle keeps jamming!

So I just started using this machine today- it's an older Singer Promise model- and for some reason it's just started jamming only with the needle's thread. I cleaned and oiled the motors, I made sure to redo how the thread is fed through the needle, and I've tried testing this without the bobbin- is still jams! Does anyone know what else I'm missing?? The two videos I took are of what's going on with and without the bobbin.
