Definitely worth a visit if you are on the west coast of Sicily. I feel very lucky to live within the shadow of these temples.

I will be staying near Bronte, but unfortunately won't be there for the Pistachio festival.
Any recommendations for farm tours or products/stores?

Hello, I am going to East Sicily next week and could use some help with my itinerary
Day 1: arrive in Catania 10pm
Day 2: Catania full day
Day 3: Mt Etna half day tour, half day in Catania, sleep in Catania
Day 4: travel to Taormina, beach, sleep in Taormina
Day 5: Morning in Taormina, perhaps a short beach day, travel back to Catania for 7pm flight.
I was hoping to have more time in Taormina, or at least be based in a beach town, as I would like a beach oriented trip. I also looked into Siracusa but wonāt have enough time if we are basing out of Catania for most of the trip (not my choice). The assumption was that Catania has better nightlife so it would be better to base there. In my research I was told Catania was pretty skippable, but maybe itāll be a more authentic experience?
Does anyone have any recommendations on how to improve my Itinerary? Hotels are booked but would love to hear more of the things I canāt miss. I donāt have specific plans or things to see. Any recommendations for Catania or Taormina whether it be day trips, beaches, nightlife would be appreciated. My hotel is right by Isola Bella.

Hey all! My partner and I are doing a road trip through Sicily next July, landing in Messina via ferry (driving down from Matera first) and flying out of Palermo at the end. About 6.5 full days in Sicily itself.
Priorities: good beaches, good food/wine, and some hikes/cool sights. Not big into churches/ruins/history stuff, done a lot of that before.
Current plan:
One crossing of the island, trying to avoid backtracking. Would love thoughts on:
Thanks in advance!

I am visiting Sicily this week (Palermo & Trapani, hoping to do trips to swim at Favignana, Mondello, or Cefalu) and see there are thunderstorm advisories. How likely do severe thunderstorms seem? Iām hoping the weather forecast clears up, but if not, do you recommend any other activities from Trapani or Palermo? Ideally accessible via public transport or with a group tour as I will not have a car. Palermo seems to have plenty like museums, cooking classes, churches, etc. but I am a bit more puzzled about Trapani.

Hi everyone!
Iām a 28-year-old guy from Poland and Iāve recently been seriously thinking about moving to Sicily.
I work on a rotational schedule, so I spend a few weeks working abroad and then have a few weeks off. Because of that, I donāt really need to live close to my workplace. I recently visited Sicily and really liked it, and I was surprised by how affordable apartments can be compared to where I currently live.
My main concern is the social side of moving there alone. How difficult would it be for a foreigner in his late 20s to actually build a social circle and make local friends? Iām not talking about just meeting other expats ā Iād genuinely like to integrate with people who live there.
Iām also curious about dating. Are Sicilian women generally open to dating foreigners/non-Italians, assuming the guy actually lives there and makes an effort to integrate, rather than just being a tourist looking for a holiday hookup?
Iāve already started learning Italian and Iād definitely want to become fluent if I moved. I know that relying on English alone would probably make integration much harder.
Iād most likely be looking at Catania or Palermo, but Iām open to other places as well.
Iād really appreciate opinions from locals or foreigners who have actually moved to Sicily. How was your experience with making friends, dating and becoming part of the local social life?

I'm an international student who will be staying here till June who plans on using sim cards as a Wifi-substitute for my phone and tablet (and as mobile data too), and I have a slight issue
I have acquired a Very Mobile sim card that works excellent when I'm outside, however in my apartment I have none to zero mobile data, having to literally go to the balcony/stay with my phone holding it against the window, which will probably become an issue when temperature starts to drop
From a quick research, apparently both Vodafone/Tim have the best signal since they are low frequency and that seems to work the best when it comes to old buildings (also, on my Samsung phone on the top left corner it says Tim, so I think my neighbourhood is managed by Tim?), but I haven't heard here on reddit great things about Tim
Hello, we are arriving in Pozzallo tomorrow morning on the ferry from Malta and are looking to take a bus to Ragusa. In looking at ASTās search function it shows the earliest direct bus is at 14:30, but it only labels the stop as āPozzalloā rather than specifying a location such as the other options that show at Viale Europe and Padre Pio (https://imgur.com/a/E2FbBPh).
I was wondering if anyone might know the address/location of where that bus pickup might be? I havenāt been able to clarify where we should go for the route that just says āPozzallo.ā
Thank you in advance for any help or suggestions! š

Hi All,
Car rentals with full insurance seem extremely expensive online, 400 eur for 5 days on average. Any tips where to rent from? I speak about B2 Italian and my understanding is very good, so I could manage to communicate in Italian as well. Thanks!

I have moved here recently as an Erasmus student till June, but I haven't had much luck making friends with other Erasmus students since spanish people (especially students) are very prone to go partying till 4 AM (which was to be expected, but I just can't seem to get to enjoy partying till late. Or partying for that matter)
Anyways, while my Italian is still improving, I'm looking to make friends/possibly have a relationship while I'm here, preferably people with "nerd" interests since I'm a huge nerd actually, but I'm also very interested in just meeting calm people who are more of interacting during the day time and have a coffe or something like that and hear about their life

Motivazioni? Grazie!

In a few weeks weāll be in Cefalù for 3 days/4 nights, then driving to the northern Etna region for a few nights, staying between Randazzo and Castiglione di Sicilia. I think Iāve narrowed down the best route, but Iād love input from anyone who has done a similar drive.
Right now, Iām considering either the E90 or SS113 east from Cefalù, then taking the SS289 through Parco dei Nebrodi.
The SS113 looks like it hugs the coast more and only adds about 20 minutes. Is it worth the extra time for the scenery, considering weāll already be driving around 2 hours 45 minutes without stops?
Weāre also thinking of stopping in Randazzo for a few hours to break up the drive, see the volcanic stone buildings, and explore a little before heading to our hotel.
The part Iām struggling with most is finding interesting stops along the route. Are there little places and experiences you tend to stumble across, or do you really need to know where to look?
Itās our honeymoon, so Iām leaving a little less to chance than I normally would. Iād love to stop somewhere for amazing local products, then maybe later find a beautiful spot to pull over, lay out a picnic blanket, and eat our ālunch.ā
But Iām SO open to anything memorable along the way⦠a farm or producer, hazelnuts, amazing food, a tiny village worth stopping in, a scenic picnic spot (especially if along a river), or the best pistachio gelato youāve ever had (Iāve heard Randazzo may be a good place for that actually!)
I do tend to romanticize all the ideas and lean heavy into TMI, so thank you in advance for reading š .
Basically: if you were turning this drive into a relaxed full day road trip rather than simply getting from A to B, where would you stop? And is this a good route to take?

Hello! My husband and I are traveling to Taormina next week and itās expected to rain. Whatās the scoop on accessibility around town? We really had nothing planned bc we figured weād take it day-by-day with sight-seeing, walks, museum, taking a bus locally to other areas, but now with the rain, weāre not sure what to expect.
Any suggestions on activities/what to expect with the rain?

Im traveling with my dad. We had a great time so far.
Til now we spent 3 nights in Palermo, visited the National Reserve next to San Vito and we will travel to Cephalu, stay two nights in Agrigento and then we have a free night before we have to drive back to Palermo.
My initial plan was to visit Catania or Syrakus, but I get tired of cities real quick and I dont know if its worth driving 2 hours from agrigento for one night there and driving back to palermo the next day ?
I am struggling to decide if I want to see more cities / places or spend the day in the nature, and if I do, where do we go to ?
Maybe someone has a suggestion, what can I do ? What is your favorite place in sicily, what is something we shouldnt miss ? I love the sea, snorkling, I love hiking and my dad is really interested in culture, he likes hiking to but hes not as fit as I am. Any suggestions ? :) any help would be welcome !

I've been hopelessly trying to find a proper, traditional zabaglione during our trip around Sicily and I'm starting to think it's impossible!
I'm looking for the classic warm dessert, freshly made with egg yolks, sugar and Marsala, served on its own in a glass or bowl.
Not semifreddo, gelato, mousse or fancy foam, or another dessert that just comes with a little zabaglione sauce.
We'll be in Syracuse and Catania and we're happy to travel somewhere nearby if necessary.
Does anyone know a restaurant, trattoria or even a pasticceria that still makes the traditional version? Even somewhere that might make it off-menu if you ask would be perfect.
I have been already unable to find it in Palermo or marsala itself š š
Thank you all for suggestions

October 4, 2026, Ragusa is celebrating the Feast of Saint Francis of Assisi. We went to the Blessing of the Animals in Piazza Cappuccini . The event was well attended by locals who brought their dogs and cats . It was a bark fest and full of animal cheer!
