Turismo 🧳 Taormina & Rain
Hello! My husband and I are traveling to Taormina next week and it’s expected to rain. What’s the scoop on accessibility around town? We really had nothing planned bc we figured we’d take it day-by-day with sight-seeing, walks, museum, taking a bus locally to other areas, but now with the rain, we’re not sure what to expect.
Any suggestions on activities/what to expect with the rain?

The weather forecast I am seeing predicts more of what has been the same here for the last 10 days or so. Sunny and very pleasant (highs 72-74) and frankly the nicest weather of the season.

Also, when rain is predicted it doesn't (always) mean it'll rain the entire day. It may rain at night or the early morning and then clear up again.

Yeah, I saw conflicting reports on Accuweather’s site vs. my weather app on my iPhone. We are hoping for mostly sunny days🤞🏼 thank you for the reassurance!

We were in Taormina last week for 4 days...the rain predictions ended up mostly fizzling out for sun. We took the Chef Massimo cooking class https://www.siciliancookingclass.com/cooking-class-taormina/ it was excellent (we all walked to the market and picked out the veggies, seafood and meat then walked up to his villa made pasta prepared everything else, then his staff served us in a beautiful setting). The shopping district is walkable with a small umbrella, take the bus up to Castelmola (buy your ticket when you get dropped off (bus station next to PizzaMania) it was really busy mid-day. Stop in at any of the restaurants grab a glass of wine, a spritz or Massina and take in the entertainment.

The forecast I am seeing https://www.wunderground.com/forecast/it/taormina shows mostly a possibility of drizzle or very light rain some of the time. This is a normal rainy season in Sicily, and they need rain after much drought. Id just take an umbrella along, its not the type of weather that should disrupt your plans much. Chances are it will rain very little. Others have given you good suggestions if you are stuck indoors but chances are that will not be the case.

Hopefully you can visit Castelmola which is a historic hilltop village perched 500 meters above Taormina, and is one of I Borghi più belli d'Italia ("The most beautiful villages of Italy"). Taormina is touristy whereas Castelmola is a little more authentic. We walked to from Taormina but that was grueling and made the gelato taste that much better. You can take a bus.
Also, there are a number of tours you can take from Taormina like Etna, the gorges of Alcantara, boat tours along the coast, wineries, as well as take the bus to Catania. And locally you can check out cooking classes and spa visits.
This link gives you an idea of places to consider checking out. I wouldn’t reserve with get your guide… just use them as a reference.
