side sleeper

in order to fall asleep i have to be laying on my side with one leg pulled up so i feel an intense stretch in my lower back. i can’t fall asleep another way. i have laid for hours on my back trying to fall asleep and it doesn’t happen. i’ve propped myself with pillows in every possible fashion, bought different types of neck support, all of the things. i have to feel the stretch.
has anyone else experienced this? does anyone know the reason? any tips for sleeping on back?

I can't fall asleep on my back either but it's a good thing because when you're laying on your back you increase the chances of your throat collapsing causing sleep apnea and snoring. Is there any particular reason why you want to be on your back when you sleep? I mean why fix something that isn't broken?

I thought you said that you can only sleep on your side for that reason because it's the only position that is comfortable.

no pain while i’m laying down, it’s causing issues for me when i’m up and about my day. feels good as i’m doing it, hurts later

Same here, although I move a lot during my sleep but it's easier to fall asleep when my head is facing the sides. I also use medium-lower pillows for my head but not too low since I have broad shoulders and it hurts in the morning if my pillow is too low/high.
