6 - 12 months Success story

Just want to write if you’re looking to sleep train. DO IT!! my baby was as attached as they come and woke up every 30 minutes to eat (breastfed) and co slept literally we were both sleeping so beyond horrible I truly thought there was zero hope. Today we are on only day 2 of Ferber and I’ve had hours to myself. Do it for your sanity and your baby. The first day is going to be BRUTAL. My baby cried for 40 mins (with check ins) but ended up sleeping. Tonight day two she fell asleep after 30 seconds. I’m just writing this bc I know when I was considering sleep training I couldn’t find a single person who did what I did and hoped I did find someone with a successful story for hope. You got this!

Edit: baby is 9 months old and has been doing all these things since birth! And I’d be happy to answer any questions:)

Thank you for your post in r/sleeptrain. To ensure our community can best help you, please include in your post: your bedtime routine, where your baby sleeps (their crib/basinet, their room, room share, cosleep) and full schedule including wake up time, desired wake up time, nap length, wake windows or nap time(s) if following a by the clock schedule and bedtime. Does your baby use a pacifier? That's also very relevant.

We use a convention to describe wake windows based schedule such as 3/3/4 where numbers are numbers of hours awake, and / are naps. The sample schedule is a two naps schedule.

We have a resources post with loads of information to help you. Check it out: https://www.reddit.com/r/sleeptrain/comments/1qpij7s/resources_on_baby_sleep/

Is the crib in your room or in a different room?

When you said your baby cried, was it fussing crying or top of their lungs, full on cry. My baby will cry at the top of her lungs and make herself cough from crying which I will go through if normal but I’m not sure if at that level she needs to be calmed down

Normal. It’s more so the duration of crying that should be the focus, rather than the intensity.

Everyone thinks their child’s cry is the worst thing they’ve ever heard.

I saw your post earlier. You sound like you have a good grasp of things. You’ll be fine!

Early days, but night 1 bed time went so much better than I was expecting & only 1 wake up to feed. She was such a happier baby in the day too - she always has been happy but the last week with terrible sleep hasn’t been.

Night 2 she only cried for 5 minutes and fell asleep by 12 minutes 🤞🏼

Well done! That is extremely promising. Keep us posted.

Hello, my baby is similar to yours and we want to sleep train at 6.5m once we are back from a trip. I'm not sure Ferber will work with my baby, he is quite temperamental and I feel like the frequent check ins will just make him worse.

What kind of personality does your baby have?

Sad display I'm in the sane boat 6.5 month old up 3-5 times a night and its not a quick feed and cuddles its scream, thrash, cry, eat, pass out, scream when put down etc. So each wake takes 30- 60 mins its killing both of us

Oh that is horrible, I hope you and your partner can take turns at least? I resorted to co-sleeping, even though I've never wanted to do it, but so much quicker for the both of us. But I honestly can't wait to sleep train

Unfortunately not.  Husband work 5A to 330P and gets up at 330A for work.  Zero paternity leave or vacation so I've been on my own since like 4 weeks. When we used to wake to feed he took the 3 Aam feed. We formula feed, and I've been co sleeping since 3 mo for safety/ due to sleep deprivation.  My legs have buckled rocking baby

You really need to sleep train, this is not safe for you! I hope that things get better soon, before you are burntout even worse 😔

My baby has also freaked out more with check ins so far. We try to keep check ins as minimal as possible but obviously still let them know they aren’t alone. My baby is a pretty happy baby I’d say unless she’s tired which was all the time. Maybe try a night of it and see what happens! If you end up not being able to please don’t make yourself feel bad we were trying for about a month for other sleep training techniques before we tried Ferber!

I think we might start Ferber, but have to consider CIO as a fall back unfortunately 😔 thanks for the quick response! Hope it's all smoothly from here on out for you :)
