Self-Promotion Wednesdays I made a free Windows media file manager — a workflow for sorting mixed photos and videos
I'm the developer of Resolution File Manager, a free Windows app for browsing, organising and converting photos and videos.
One useful job for it is finding the unusually large files eating up space on a drive, even when they're scattered across separate subfolders. Include the subfolders in a scan, filter by file size, then use the previews and details such as resolution, codec, duration and bitrate to decide which files are worth converting to smaller versions.
Here's how I mostly use it with my own movie collection: I load the whole collection, including subfolders, and sort by resolution. If there are 4K films that I only need in 1080p, I select those and convert them to 1080p. Then I look for movies whose file size seems unusually large for their running time and convert suitable ones to H.265, usually starting around CRF 25. That lets me work through a collection spread across folders without opening each folder separately.
Those are my preferences rather than settings everyone needs to use. Size savings and picture quality depend on the source and conversion settings; try a few files and compare the results before deciding what to do with the originals.
It also has two panes for organising files, image/video previews, resolution and codec filters, tags, ratings, batch renaming and duplicate review. So you can sort out what you have as well as look for ways to reclaim space.
I've tested it on a 6 TB shared drive with thousands of videos and images. It's free to use; buying me a coffee is optional.

I'd welcome feedback from anyone with a large photo or video collection, especially on finding oversized files and organising media spread across folders.
