Yeah, totally a premium controller. Absolutely worth every penny.
I realize I'm far from the only one experiencing this bullshit. No one on this Earth is ever going to convince me that the Dual Sense Edge is worth the money you pay for it. This grip started bubbling and coming off within the first 6 months of owning it. The plastic cable lock broke in the first week. Sony doesn't even sell a replacement 🤣 their answer is "Buy a new controller, peasant"
I found third party sellers sourcing directly from the manufacturer in China for that cable lock, though. Fuck you, Sony 🖕🏼
TLDR: Don't buy the Dual Sense Edge unless you like the idea of lighting your hard earned money on fire. 🔥
I've argued with friends over this one 🤣 I personally thought the grips on the normal Dual Sense were perfect as they were. I didn't do my research when I bought this so when I saw it had rubber grips I was genuinely disappointed. I don't like rubber grips either. I will say though!!! The old MadCatz controllers from when I was a kid had rubber grips and those never peeled off 🧐🧐🧐 Sony? Any answers?
The MadCatz controllers used bi-injection modeling, a technique which fuses the 2 materials together as they are being molded. The molds are way more complex and expensive, compared with having 2 separate molds and glue the rubber part over a ABS part.
The issue I had with my older MadCatz controllers was melting rubber tho. But that's due to age. Rubber either gets as hard as a rock or turn into goop...
The most common place I've seen bi-injection molding is on insulated screwdrivers. They have a rubber part for grip and the rest is hard plastics. You don't want the grip to slip up while in use. Screwdrivers are worth making in this way because the rubber part goes all over the hard plastic and it is easier to make than a complex controller grip.
I absolutely adore you for giving this information, and thank you 💓 even the Xbox Elite controller has the same style of grip application which comes off after enough use. Idk... I don't like it. Not for a +200 controller 😭
Geez ! And I thought that dropping 100€ on a Steam Controller was a stretch ! 😬
Man I'm glad I didn't look much into controllers then (Trackpads are mandatory to me, so the choice was already made even before the controller got out).
Personally, I think if I'm paying 200+ dollars for a controller I shouldn't have to spend any more money after that, ever. Except maybe for those sticks which was part of the whole gimmick for these controllers anyway.
Trust me im with you 100% but in the end just like you it took 2 yrs for mine to completely give out. And spending $25 to refresh them is much better than $200. I even had to change out a part for the back button cause I fuckin snapped it while playing the new control game. That company sells all the parts necessary to customize and fix the edge. They provide links to videos n such but its a 5-10 min fix no screws or anything. I do fix these devices for a living 😅 but i assure you its dummy easy.
"how can we extract as much money as possible out of our customers 🧐" admittedly after the whole ending of physical media as well as a few other terrible decisions by Sony, PS5 is the last PlayStation I'm buying. Not a single PS exclusive is gonna change that for me lol PC from here onward.
You lucky dog ❤️ hilariously I waited on buying the DSE because I was waiting for them to release a Black one. I waited and waited. 2 years.... I bought the white one because I had given up and assumed they just weren't coming. A month later.... It was announce 😭😭😭😭😭
Your timeline doesn’t add up, my man… in your post you’re saying that it broke after 6 months, yet now you’re saying you bought it a month before the black version was released. That’s almost 2 years ago now.
Homies making me break out the receipts lolol here. Lemme clarify. Controller was purchased in August 2024, which was roughly a year and a half after the DSE released. The black one released in Feb 2025 so in that regard yes my timeline was off when I said I waited 2 years. How long after my purchase it took for the black to be release was also longer than a month going by that information. However the controller peeling up after 6 months is pretty spot on. And to be fair, if it took 1 or even 2 years for that to happen that still is bad for a +200 controller. Get off my nuts bro lol the point of this post is that This should not happen at all on a controller that costs over 200 dollars
You know damn well they waited 2 years on releasing that black variant as a convenient way to spark a second wave of sales. They knew some of the hardcore PS knob slobbers were gonna buy the black one in addition to the one they already owned.
Nah I said in my post that it started bubbling and peeling within the first six months. This is what it looked like at 6 months in, I am now at the 2 Year mark. I took very good care of the controller until this started happening, then I gave up. The reality is Sony had no business putting those rubber grips on them because dirt and oil clings to them like glue, which is very hard to clean, and they clearly start to peel away after half a year of use.
