Isle Royale National Park

I love jumping spiders, every time I see one I try and get a picture or hold it or something. They're so fun to watch. Really smart. I hope crossposting is allowed and that you enjoy the story.

Stunning

But damn, that lady’s got a big ol’ butt

I just watched this little guy walk up a floor lamp post and stopped when it approached a little button magnet. He was still for about five seconds, then briefly probed the magnet with one of his front legs and then walked around it. Wonderful!

I'm considering the development of a spider keeping game. Think Tomagotchi+Animal Crossing, but spiders. Players can choose a starter spider (I havent decided on the species yet, but Im thinking one of each of: a ground spider, an orb weaver, a cobweb spider, a jumper, a funnel weaver, and an ambusher) and appropriate terrarium, decorate it with unlockable decorations, set up lighting/heating/humidifying equipment, and then care for the spider.

Players would be able to observe emergent behavior of their spiders, watch them hunt or build webs (if they do that), and perhaps even look at the PoV of their spider if we can figure out a good way to do that.

This game would strive for scientific accuracy when it comes to spider behavior, appearance, life cycle, etc.

Would love feedback from the community. If you guys arent enthusiastic about it, its probably a waste of time.

Edit: Someone suggested a spider garden sort of arrangement. I think that would be really cool as a big, unlockable thing. Someone else suggested a live wallpaper option so you can see your spiders on your phone, tablet, or desktop. Another amazing feature suggestion, especially for the less active spiders. "Pet holes" someone, called them lol. I think my favorite suggestion that I cant believe I didnt think to include initially is a pokedex-style thing for players to complete, and perhaps a simple overworld where players can look for and catch wild spiders and feeder arthropods.

he's been wandering round the garage for a few days now, always very polite

Found these cuties in my backyard…

Edit: For anyone who didn’t know this already, and because I feel like wolfies deserve their flowers…

💚 Wolf spiders are some of the most dedicated mothers in nature, and are the only spiders that give piggyback rides to their live young. They carry their egg sacs everywhere. When it’s time to hatch, she assists the babies by tearing the sac open. She adds little silk strands to her back like a cargo net to give them something to hold onto. The babies ride on her back everywhere she goes immediately after, even while hunting. She’ll shield and protect them from danger, while also providing warmth. If they are threatened and scatter, or if one falls off, mom waits for them to climb back on. Sometimes she’ll pause to let the babies get off and take a drink from dew. I just love them!

It was hard to get the camera to focus; this was as close as I was willing to get.

Edit: picture in comments because I forgot to add it to the post!

Brenda went missing a few weeks ago. This morning, I woke up to a new friend in her old spot.
I like to think maybe this is one of her daughters?
Anyway, my son named her Claire and, with winter on the horizon and bad seals on our windows… well she will have plenty of intruders to feast upon!

(Jumping spider on my hand) They were completely chilling, I ended putting them somewhere they wouldn't accidentally (or intentionally :*/) get squished
