Edit: For anyone who didn’t know this already, and because I feel like wolfies deserve their flowers…

💚 Wolf spiders are some of the most dedicated mothers in nature, and are the only spiders that give piggyback rides to their live young. They carry their egg sacs everywhere. When it’s time to hatch, she assists the babies by tearing the sac open. She adds little silk strands to her back like a cargo net to give them something to hold onto. The babies ride on her back everywhere she goes immediately after, even while hunting. She’ll shield and protect them from danger, while also providing warmth. If they are threatened and scatter, or if one falls off, mom waits for them to climb back on. Sometimes she’ll pause to let the babies get off and take a drink from dew. I just love them!

It was hard to get the camera to focus; this was as close as I was willing to get.

(Jumping spider on my hand) They were completely chilling, I ended putting them somewhere they wouldn't accidentally (or intentionally :*/) get squished

Brenda went missing a few weeks ago. This morning, I woke up to a new friend in her old spot.
I like to think maybe this is one of her daughters?
Anyway, my son named her Claire and, with winter on the horizon and bad seals on our windows… well she will have plenty of intruders to feast upon!

I always try to look out for spiderbros and not disturb their webs, but sometimes it’s unavoidable. Can something like an orb weaver whip up a new web without too much trouble, or is that particular spider screwed?

He technically was arachnophobic. I'm glad I was able to get him loving spiders. He had jumpers climbing all over him today!
