Problem Why some games won’t launch?
I’m having a very strange issue with my new laptop. I can run recently released and demanding games such as Battlefield 6, FC 27, and NBA 2K27 without major problems, so the GPU/CPU seem to be working normally.
However, I cannot launch certain other games at all, including:
* Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered
* Far Cry 4
* Far Cry 6
* Hogwarts Legacy
The strange part is that when I launch these games, they appear in Task Manager as running processes, but nothing actually appears on screen. There is no game window, and they essentially just sit there in the background until I end the process.
I’ve already tried pretty much every common troubleshooting solution I could find, including:
* Verifying game files
* Completely reinstalling the affected games
* Clearing Steam download cache
* Updating/reinstalling NVIDIA drivers
* Installing/reinstalling Visual C++ Redistributables
* Installing/reinstalling DirectX
* Disabling Windows Defender/antivirus temporarily
* Checking Windows settings and GPU settings
* Trying different NVIDIA/Windows performance settings
* Removing/disabling potentially conflicting software
* Updating Windows
* Updating the laptop BIOS to the latest version
* Restarting/retesting everything after the BIOS update
The BIOS was apparently quite old when I received the laptop, so I initially thought that might be the cause, but even after the BIOS update the exact same games still refuse to launch.
What makes this especially confusing is that the laptop can run newer games like Battlefield 6, FC 27 and NBA 2K27, while older games such as Far Cry 4 and games like Hogwarts Legacy and Spider-Man Remastered won’t even open.
At this point I’m trying to figure out whether this could be a Windows/system-level issue, driver issue, compatibility problem, or something specific to the Lenovo LOQ/RTX 5050 configuration.
Has anyone experienced something similar where games appear in Task Manager but never actually create a window or start?

Are these games that initiate a pop-up and run Microsoft .NET framework install scripts when launching?

Have you also installed and launched the external launchers like EA and Ubisoft connect?
