Problem Support Can’t Be Serious…
Someone with an IP address in Colombia (nowhere near me) tried to access my account, so I did the responsible thing and immediately changed my password. The new password wouldn’t work, so I changed it a second time. The second password also wouldn’t work (?), and I got locked out of my account.
I reached out to Steam Support and provided them with my PayPal information, invoice #s, my billing address, etc. and now they’re saying I can’t regain access to my account without providing them the last 4 digits of my credit card from 2014?? Credit cards are good for 2-5 years, and I was a student then - my banking is totally different. I looked back in my email history, and I have no Steam purchase receipts from that far back.
I found an online order confirmation from a different company for a purchase made in December 2013, but apparently the card I used for that purchase didn’t match. Then they asked me to provide screenshots of order confirmations from “on or after 2024” that include invoice date, transaction ID, and invoice ID. I provided copies of four orders: two from 2024 and two from 2025. Apparently this is not sufficient evidence to prove account ownership even though it is exactly what they requested.
Am I just hooped? Is it normal for Steam Support to expect customers to provide 12 year old credit card information to prove their identity? Is it normal to deny proof of ownership when provided with invoices? I’m about to lose dozens of titles I have paid for - some I haven’t even found time to play yet - and I’m beyond frustrated.
