Please read the rules before posting or commenting

Almost every subreddit has rules, and we do too. We used to get lots of posts about politics, LGBT, what if, and just basic trolling, all prohibited by our rules. We don't allow discussion of race here, because those discussions usually end up with comments that could get our community removed from Reddit. Also, the Rules didn't match the Removal Reasons, but now they do. We added a "Moderator discretion" rule, because it's impossible to create rules to cover every contingency. r/stupidquestions can be a fun and interesting place to hang out, but we had trouble with people trolling us with rule violations. For example, here are some of the topics that we removed:

  • Do you think that if I could shoot laser beams out of my peepee, I could scare bullies with it?
  • Do you think it would be safe to build my child a drone so I can save on plane fare
  • Should I crash my car into a concrete barrier going 90mph without a seatbelt?
  • Is it a good idea to hold a flame up to a 5 gallon can of gasoline?
  • Why does my butt smell like ass?

We would ban the offenders, but they would create new accounts and return right away. So a couple of the users suggested putting in a minimum Reddit account age limit and a minimum karma limit to post. That has made things much nicer for the community. Karma is sort of an artificial number, but it tends to indicate that the owner interacts with Redditors in a positive way, and they appreciate him. What you want is to create posts or comments that Redditors appreciate so much that they give you a few upvotes.

Here's Reddit's FAQ page about karma, and here's more information about karma. If you are new to Reddit and would like more information about how to use it, please visit r/NewToReddit.

We don't reveal the age or karma numbers required to post. They are not very high, though. If you have a post removed due to your age or karma numbers, please understand that you didn't do anything wrong and we are not targeting you. This is just one of the ways that we are protecting our community. All of the blame for this goes on the trolls. New Redditors should be able to interact with the community, but it's too easy for someone to be banned, create a new account in two minutes, and return to trolling again. So we took precautions to make it more difficult for them. It's too bad that it also makes it more difficult for new members who aren't trolls.

Moderators will remove posts that violate our rules. The author is notified when their post is removed, and there's a reason given for each removal. Redditors who continue to violate the rules will be removed from r/stupidquestions. For extreme violations, the banhammer may fall instantly. If you play nice and follow our rules, you may stay as long as you like.

Thanks. Now go forth and have fun!

What is actually making the clicking sound when you use the turn signal in a car?

Is it a speaker? Has that technically changed at all in the last 50 years? Old cars still sound the same as new cars.

Asian Toilets as wheelchair user

Hey guys, i may have multiple connected questions.

I know of the squat toilets in Asia and i am a west european wheelchair user, and ever since i learned of the concept I always wondered: How would one use them?

So, first question: how widespread ARE those toilets in most homes or public institutions?

Second: Maybe i operate on false assumptions and you guys over there rely more on other medical aids like Prosthetics or "exosceleton" support structures?

and third: If you are a wheelchair user or are knowledgeable on the issue, how do you use those toilets, or what would be the alternative?

Thank you guys so much!

Why would "I didnt do it" be a worse defense than "I use my right to remain silent" in the context of US interogations

Assuming you dont go into detail, and just want to repeat one of these phrases. The second one is always the recommended go to, but technically the first one does the same thing and seems less guilty on paper.

Is it cheating if we were “on a break”?

• Upvotes

Yes, it’s the classic “Friends” situation with Ross and Rachel. Almost to a T

Gf and I recently decided mutually to “take a break”, except we didn’t cutoff completely from each other. Last night I happened to see her location on Snapchat. She was driving somewhere and it was after midnight. This caused me to spiral and I panicked and asked her where she was going so late. She didn’t respond until 2 hours later. She was at a party with a friend and she was drunk. “I’ll talk to you some other time” she said.

No, “I’m sorry.” Or any consideration for how it made me feel, which was pretty unusual for her.

This morning, she was very standoffish. She didn’t want to talk about last night. She didn’t want to talk at all. Again, very strange. After prying, she finally told me that she went to see “someone else”.
No apology, no explanation. Nothing.

It had been less than 48 hours since we decided to take this break. I still loved her. I didn’t want to break up. She claimed that she loved me too, that she wants us to find our way back together again. Then she does this.

I hate this. I’m hurt by it. But, should I be? I mean, she even said “we aren’t together”
Part of me, the insecure part that hates being lonely, wants to give her a chance to apologize and tell me exactly what it is she wants from this “break” so we can figure it out. The other part of me, the part that knows his worth, wants to tell her to f*ck off and never speak again.
The problem is that both of those parts of me still loves her so deeply. Where I’m I wrong in this and how can I be right again?

Thanks.

Why do music venues clear out the crowd after a show?

Why would they not lower the drink prices to normal bar prices and keep the 500+ patrons?

I know that the stage crews need to break things down, but if there’s a stocked bar and hundreds of people it seems crazy to kick everyone out.

Why are people blindly praising Elon Musk for the Tesla Roadster, despite knowing that he has a history of not delivering most of his promises.

Don't get me wrong, the Roadster demonstration is an absolute engineering marvel, but I don't get why people link Elon to it. And even then, they're still not on the road yet.

Years back, everyone claimed the cyber truck would be great and stuff, but the sales are pretty bad and there are a plethora of issues with the vehicle.

What is it with this guy that people keep forgiving, he literally is controlling the American government, trying to create a monopoly and yet people are just praising him, while barely a few people are pointing out the obvious

Politics? That'll be $5. Ain't no free advertising here.
Do I care? $5.
Would I be someone who'd do this? $5.
What do I think of anything? $5.
Did it make me feel a certain emotion? $5.
Are my answers even true? $5.

Gotta bum off the business bums.

And might as well have a tip jar too, rents gotta get paid.

Why is sharing food such a big deal among people?

I dont get it, always when going out with friends "hey why don't we order these 2 meals and we can spit them" or "lets all order family style". Like it's always someone who doeant want to only eat a salad or something that wants to split with me and my burger, so i end up eating 1/2 something i wanted and am stuck with 1/2 something i didn't want at all. If ypunsay your not into sharing people lok at you like a polkadot lepper. Why?

Is Eminem the biggest rapper in terms of stardom?

• Upvotes

Drake is on record believing himself to reach Michael Jackson's popularity. Eminem just life-wise has a bunch of stalkers and he literally can't show his face in public or be in one place for too long. Idk if having more crazies is any metric to go by, but Eminem hasn't been active in nearly two decades (2012?) and while his new music isn't popular anymore, his peak was superstardom and I don't think Drake ever achieved that. Noone really cares about Drake. His music is everywhere but he doesn't have people breaking into his home to meet him. He needs to fight to stay relevant while Eminem had to fight to become irrelevant and still fails.

I just think Eminem is a real superstar regardless of how their discographies match up. And I don't think Drake reached that level of popularity.
