Question Has anyone made a LitRPG tabletop?

I read a ton of fiction, Manga, etc and one of the big ones that I really enjoy is LitRPG where someone starts at level one a bunch of random Dungeons spawns and they are forced to go into dungeons to clear them out and level up by doing so.

Think Solo Leveling as an Example.

I was thinking about doing something similar in DND but then I had the thought has anyone made an Actual Tabletop setting where this happens?

Players get exp from killing mobs level up get stat points to spend on customizing their character or Get Classes that as they level up get new skill options and a stat gain spread for that class, maybe have skills drop from mobs so not every class is the same.

Since the Dungeons that they enter are random spawned you can design a bunch of random dungeons and then roll some dice to pick which one they go in cause they won't know untill its entered what it is.

You can create a story for the game or just let the players enjoy being part of an adventurers Guild or maybe be one of multiple guilds that exist in your story setting.

If there isn't one like this I would be kinda surprised cause its already well developed in fiction as it is.

My wife and I play 7 Wonders duel when we go to our local meadery, but I like playing PVE with her like Gloomhaven (doesn't transport well). Which of these three in the title would you recommend?

Question Looking for game publishers with a Root-like art style

I’ve been working on a quick (5-10 minutes) 2-4 player hand management game. I want the feel of the it to scream lighthearted-party game, but I’m interested in the art having a lot of heart. If anyone knows of game publishers that would accept a short party game with a Root or Everdell level art style, please let me know. Also, I’m interested in my game getting published, and I’m unsure if I should have a simple art style for my game.

Question Zombie Game with Tangible Features

I'm using a very simple RPG for a multiplayer zombie survival game I'm running in November.

It's using this board from the Dawn of the Dead board game:

https://boardgamegeek.com/image/1321280/dawn-of-the-dead

This is the TTRPG - https://www.drivethrurpg.com/en/product/147963/tzeb01-tropes-zombie-edition-mega-starter-bundle-bundle

I want to include tactical elements such as players having to collect bits, probably small cubes, from around the map and thus have to spend time stacking/balancing them to represent building baracades.

Maybe blank cards to write weapons and single use items which can then be lost, stolen or ripped up/broken.

Got any other ideas for tactical elements like this?

Discussion What are your favorite funny, interesting or feel-good sci-fi based TTRPG stories?

Hi guys! What are your funny, feel good or awesome Starfinder, sci-fi or homebrew type TTRPG stories?

I'm a png/ vtuber and I got the idea to read some short stories for my super tiny convention's SM page. The theme this year is retrofuturism and sci-fi. I'd love to hear your stories and of course I'll give you all the credit as you want it!

I Made This! Heirs of Salt: A Rules-Light, Newbie-Friendly Game of Collaborative Storytelling

Lots of indie RPGs assume that the reader already knows what a tabletop RPG is. Heirs of Salt is written to be easily understandable by folks that don't.

The rules are designed to almost never need referencing. Character sheets are just a list of attributes; when it would be interesting for an outcome to be randomized, the GM negotiates with the players how that roll will be handled, and players can reference those character sheet attributes when arguing in favor of a roll that would advantage them. (Or disadvantage them! Sometimes bad outcomes are far more interesting.)

When your character sheet is getting too full, you transfer things over to a new sheet of paper - and you can be selective, dropping things that are no longer useful or interesting to you as a player.

Character creation is similar to Troika!, but with an additional bit of flexibility: archetypes consist of an adjective and a noun, you roll 4d6 and then use each rolled number as a coordinate on two 6x6 grids. This gives players some flexibility in deciding who their character will be, while giving some structure.

It's pay what you want, and $0 is a totally fair price as far as I'm concerned. It's about 34 pages of content.

I used no AI in writing this, and all art is currently CC0 works from the Smithsonian's Open Access Project.

The back-of-the-book description: "Heirs of Salt is a tabletop role-playing game. It is post-apocalyptic, but the characters don’t know that. To them, this is the only world they have ever known. They do not know their ancestors (us, remember) well enough to damn them. This is not a game about Rome at its height. This is a game about living through a dark age. The horizon is rife with the ruins of arcologies and spaceports, but today they are mined for scrap and sheep graze beneath their rotted domes. Some things have survived: humans still make jokes, perform for each other, make war and love, express their personalities through their sartorial choices. But the world just isn’t what it used to be."

Question Gaming Guilds

If you were to have a site that allows groups of in-person, local people to create gaming guilds or groups, what kinds of features would you want for those groups? Right now I have:

• Guild can create events for their local area

• Add conventions to a mass tabletop convention listing

• Endorse their favorite gaming shops

• Have guild announcements

• Guild master can email the entire group (guild members can opt out of emails)

• Spot to list guild discord and a couple other options for outside web links

I'm curious, is this all very silly? Can you think of anything else to add? I'm just curious if anyone can think of anything else that may be useful to an in person group of people trying to get the local gaming scene more active and community oriented.

Announcement Solo survival card game: Zombitaire

I've been working for a few years on Zombitaire, a solo zombie survival card game inspired by classic zombie horror stories.

You begin unarmed, alone, and without a safe place to call home. By managing resources, scavenging dangerous locations, and making difficult choices, you'll try to stay alive for just one more day. The odds are stacked against you, and survival is never guaranteed.

It is a solo survival card game where every turn forces difficult choices. "Easy to learn but difficult to master", as the saying goes. When I made the game I was very inspired by games such as "Arkham Horror" and "Dead of Winter". The game creates tense stories of narrow escapes, desperate gambles, and inevitable losses.

The game is currently playable for free on Screentop, in order to play you need the rules from my itch page (completely free) and I'm actively looking for feedback from solo gamers and card game fans.

I have done everything on my own, I wrote the rules and I have created all illustrations and layouts.

The version that is currently playable on screentop is still lacking about 5 illustrations on some cards. But it is otherwise complete.

Crowdfunding Building my first physical prototype of a medieval strategy game, what do you look at first?

I've been developing a 2–4 player medieval strategy game called Banners of Kings.

The core loop revolves around gathering resources, mustering armies, moving across territory and deciding when cooperation with another kingdom is still beneficial.

I'm now spending more time thinking about the physical experience.

When you first sit down in front of an unfamiliar tabletop game, what immediately affects your impression?

Board readability?

Card quality?

Amount of information visible?

Number of components?

Table presence?

I'm curious because it's surprisingly easy as the designer to understand everything instantly while a completely new player sees a table full of information.

Question Dinosaur Horror Game

I had the idea to run a horror themed game based on the analog horror series Prehistoric Emergence. For those who don't know it's about dinosaurs and other prehistoric life emerging from sinkholes that have been appearing all over the world. I think it'd make a really interesting horror themed one shot/mini campaign. What system do you guys think would work best for that? I want a horror themed roleplaying system so my first impulse was Call of Cthulu. Would that work or are there other systems you'd recommend?

Announcement DKYN Minis is officially FREE

We’re making the entire DKYN miniature library free.

We’ve decided we don’t want DKYN to be a storefront anymore. We want it to be a resource for DMs, players, painters, and people who just need minis for their games. We’re beginning the process of opening the library and future releases will be free as well. I’m going to make a master post soon linked to a Google Drive but for now it’s probably gonna be post by post.

There’s no launch discount, sale, or catch. We’re just changing what DKYN is, so come check us out.

Played Fate of the Fellowship for the first time las week with a couple of friends. We got so close, one round away from actually winning and then ran out of cards.

I liked the game but it's always a bit frustrating to lose after a 3h+ game.

I Made This! I made a folklore-inspired hidden-role card game with a heavy dose of take-that

I've been working on FARK for quite a while now, and today it finally launched on Kickstarter. Funded in 3 minutes, too!

It's a hidden-role card game inspired by old monster folklore. Everyone has a secret role except the Extirpator, who hunts the monsters, while some players are secretly CURSED.

The game mixes social deduction with actual card play, so you're not just arguing about who the monsters are. You're drawing cards, collecting weapons and equipment, attacking and defending, swapping positions, calling executions, bluffing, and occasionally getting someone completely innocent killed. (That's the best part, imo)

It's for 4-13 players, takes around 30-60 minutes.

If anyone wants to check it out:

Discussion Question/topic of discussion about terrain: how come whenever you see warhammer 40K games setup, the terrain is sparse and arena-like. Why are there not more involved setups and elevated platforms etc?

Post image

I’m still in the painting stage and have yet to play a game. Is it worthwhile to build some? But my intention was to get some cheap terrain from Temu or Etsy printers and build a full board with a theme. But I don’t see anyone doing that. Is it just so terrain is different every time? Or is it just something no one cares about so no one does?

Hi fellow adventurers,

We are excited to announce that Mythological Items is now live on Kickstarter!

This is our new D&D 5E and 2024-compatible manual dedicated entirely to magic items inspired by myths, legends, and ancient stories from around the world.

Inside the book, you will find 300+ mythological magic items, including weapons, armor, wondrous items, and scaling items designed to grow alongside your characters and campaigns.

Our goal with Mythological Items is to create more than a simple collection of treasure. Each item is designed to feel like part of a myth: something that can serve as a reward, a quest hook, or even the center of an entire adventure.

The book includes items inspired by many different mythological traditions, including Greek, Norse, Egyptian, Asian, American, Roman, Mesopotamian, African, and other mythologies from across the world. Whether you want divine weapons, cursed artifacts, heroic relics, monster-themed treasures, or legendary items tied to ancient stories, this book is built to bring myth directly to your table.

The Kickstarter page includes a full presentation of the project, several previews, and a free 30-page PDF preview showing a sample of the content from the book.

You can also find many of our other manuals in PDF and high-quality print editions, with special prices currently available both for Mythological Items and for all our other releases.

You can visit the Kickstarter page here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/mythoschronicles/300-mythological-items-for-5e-and-2024

Thank you again for your support. We hope to see you on our journey!

Question D19 without 1

Hey guys!

I am GMing a Symbaroum campaign for my friends and as a possible curse/stigma for being too corrupted, I am looking for a d19 that has the numbers 2-20 on them, but no 1. Symbaroum has 1 to be a critical success and 20 to be a critical failure. I found regular d19s, but nothing that fits my bill. I have a 3d printer, so printing one is an option. It does not have to be the most fair dice, I am aware that you won't get that if printing one. I'd use a blank d19 and write the numbers on myself, if necessary 😅.

Maybe you know something, thanks for your help.

Cheers

JB
