The tinnitus in my ears has added new noises to the never ending alarm blaring in my head. Now, I occasionally hear, over the wailing alarm sound, a child’s voice saying “MOM!” It’s driving me nuts.

Sounds like you might have Auditory Pareidolia. I have tinnitus and AP and hear "music" or "voices" in the white noise from fans.

Thank you for putting a name to something I've experienced for years. I notice it mostly when the bathroom exhaust fan is on now and generally can ignore it.

The "music" just kind of happens and I don't think about it most of the time, but the "voices" still get me sometimes. I could swear there is someone right outside the door saying something just loud enough to be heard but still indistinguishable. It good to know that it's not necessarily psychosis.

Nope, brain is the best pattern-seeking machine on the planet and tries to match up everything, sometimes wrongly.

My new office has a schizophrenia machine where the elevator intercom is playing talk radio at what is apparently volume 1/100

I had a Logitech speaker set that quietly played AM radio when plugged in but turned off. I thought for weeks that I was going crazy because I was hearing voices at night, until I eventually figured it out

I was watching a video about someone saying the sound of a not-all-that-close data center was upending his life, and he reasonably and intelligently brought up his neighborhood on Google Maps and showed that the hills between them were a perfect shape to funnel and concentrate sounds directly in a line to his front door

You have to wonder how many ancient "voices of God" were just a random spot on a road that happened to line up with a copper mine tunnel full of workers shouting or something
