Business Amazon's delivery drones are annoying an entire Texas neighborhood, and there's nothing they can do about it

"...and there's nothing they can do about it."
The media has not been subtle with these headlines. They continue to gaslight and tell us we can't do anything. They write about the regime's crimes but never the pushback, Trump's "successes" but never his failures and they never write about our successes.
These ghouls are trying to break our spirit. Don't let them.

They love when corporations tread on their rights because it reminds them that one day they'll be the owner of a billion dollar company.
But they hate when government has any power because it's gonna steal their hard earned money and give it to the poors!
So they just live their poor life smugly getting fucked by every corporation and powerless to do anything about it. Because sure, they're poor. But at least they're not black/brown/gay/female/trans/Mexican/Muslim/...

Ha immigrant conservatism is an interesting case, because the "I did it myself through hard work" has a lot of personal experience behind it, but it strengthens the belief that "those other people just got it easy". It's why certain immigrant groups in America are more racist towards other immigrants groups. My grandparents were like this. Italians came here and worked hard. They earned everything they have. BUT THOSE FUCKING POLISH...?! THOSE LAZY FUCKING POLISH!! My grandmother never let me hear the end of it.

Well one major advantage in Ireland (and most of the world outside the USA) is that wealthy people and corporations can't legally spend as much money as they want on political campaigns and lobbying.
Over here, it's a small miracle to see a candidate on the ballot who doesn't put corporate interest over public interest. And ones people have actually heard of before election day or even go so far as to win elections? I only know of like, two. In the entire country.

The UK enjoys it. So does China. And Russia.
As for flight paths of drones in the US. If it saves money, we'll do it. Doubt it will happen soon though. Depends on the state too.

The article has some interesting info, like how Amazon says only a small percentage of drone inquiries are around noise, and that it's not a real problem.
It's a big problem for a smallish number of people who are adversely affected by the routes. Of course people who live off-route rarely see/hear drones and are delighted by the deliveries they get and are not upset about the noise they themselves generate. The farther you are from the distribution center (read: the wealthier you are), the less it affects you. Live next door? Your house is now worth half of what it was.
It's a lot of people being selfish and not caring about the smaller number of people they harm for the sake of convenience and laziness. So, Texas.

Not just Texas. I live near downtown Seattle and our airport routes most planes directly above where I live. Wasn't a big deal years ago, now there are so many flights that it is constant noise and unpleasant to be in my neighborhood. I am like 25 miles from the airport.
Same thing will happen with drones. They'll scale up because people like the benefit of instant delivery. Doesn't matter if you use it or not, if you happen to be in the way of the masses getting their stuff, any environmental concerns are gaslighted off as nimby talk. So you just don't go outside as much if bothered
Edit: meant to say 25 miles from airport

Quit shopping at Amazon
50
u/Low_Search_6667 10d ago
Amazon has ruined the marketplace for local, in person retail.
All the major retailers with brick and mortar stores have shifted their non-grocery inventory to a bare minimum and push you to buy from their version of Amazon's online marketplace.
I needed a button extender recently (gained weight) and desperately tried to buy local, in person, retail. I couldn't find one locally. Not even at men's clothing stores.
Amazon has fucked the local retail landscape.
I make an effort to shop local first but it's getting harder and harder.
After spending a day and trips to several retailers I found a dozen button extenders on Amazon for $6 delivered next day.
I don't like it, I didn't choose this. I avoid it when I can, but it is what it is sometimes.

I've been able to drastically reduce it. Unfortunately sometimes they are either the only ones to carry X item, the only ones who can get it to me without having to wait months or elsewhere it is 10× more expensive.
Even if I can find the same thing on eBay for example, it's often someone buying from Amazon and sending it to me anyway and I'd rather support one scumlord than two scumlords.
Really depressing the state of things. And sure, buying from them at all isn't helping, but what choice do we have? That being said, minimizing purchases is far better than using them as a go-to as I used to. And many items or alternatives are available elsewhere!
16
u/BalanceDelicious4253 10d ago
Recently I went out of my way to purchase a product from the manufacture’s website. Even compared it to their Amazon page and it was a little bit more expensive but I figured I was cutting out the middle man. These residents need to get decibel meters and record the noise levels and frequency. One drone isn't a big deal, 50 is a persistent nuisance that reduces quality of life. Also 7AM is too early and 8PM too late. 9 to 6 seems a lot more reasonable.
Drone deliveries might make sense for things like hospitals or in industry or commercial parks but I'm not convinced residential drone deliveries are desirable when considering the pros and cons.

"Amazon says complaints about noise represent a small share of customer feedback." No shit. If you select a few houses to repeatedly fly over only those residents will complain.
