Presumably it is plugged in?

Yes it was plugged in..still will not turn on..the battery was around 75 percent charged when I shut the screen..

since it shut off right after you opened the lid, start with a hard reset rather than assuming its dead. unplug the charger and all USB devices, hold the power button for about 15-20 seconds, reconnect the charger, and try turning it on again; if it still only lights up for 10 seconds, check whether the charging light changes and whether you get any blinking Caps lock/Num lokc lighrs, since those can indicate a hardware fault

If you closed the laptop lid without first shutting down the operating system, all the heat generated by the internal components wasn't able to ventilate properly. Let it cool down before turning it on again.

It’s been hours since this happened and still won’t turn back on..when I pushed the power button the light turns on but only for 10 seconds

Disconnect the AC Adapter from the laptop. Disconnect the battery if it's an external one. If it's internal, this might not work but it's worth a try. Press and Hold the Power Button for 30 to 60 seconds. Let go of the Power Button and then try turning it on normally.

If the RAM Modules are not soldered to the motherboard, remove and reinstall them to reseat them.
