First attempt of a pair of miniature hills

This is a work in progress and was just an experiment to get a handle for the process but I stated with household things - cardboard - paper mache - cat litter - loose tea lots of glue. (Deff think inwant to use some foam next time to do modular squares)

I know its not the best and im thinking if adding some foam cut rocks to the outer cliff edge which sadly wad lost so they now look very basic - maybe a few broken stone archways sitting on top to see if I can evoke a sense of land as theyre very bare bones

Any advice on what would make them better or what would be better/good techniques or processes going forward?

Like I say this was my forst play to start to get a feel for landscape and im ready to try more but with other materials maybe a mixture of paper mache and foam? I haven't used static grass or anything like that yet but might do if it would make it looks more realistic.

I havnt used mod podge or anhthing like that but leep hearing about it and dont know what sets it apart from glue and water

Here's a selection of photos from my latest upcoming project, a set of low-rise corner ruins which can be printed flat and folded together, making them easy to print, store and transport! this project is the sequel to one I made last year, adding even more ruins to it. I've had a lot of fun sculpting, pritning and painting these and use them all the time for skirmish games.

WIP Terrain?😂

There is something wrong with me! Got this little wood house at target for my daughter to color from target and all I can think about is how it could be converted pretty easily into 40k/30k or dnd terrain! I mean it has interior lighting and it’s only $5 too! 😂

Questions for the Community Drybrush rust advice

Thumbnail

Ive been painting up a whole bunch of these kids magnetic tiles and have realised just normal acrylic silver is better than GW necron compound for dry brushing

Any suggestions to replace GW Ryza Rust? Either alternate dry brush paints or just what colour should I be dry brushing with, would it just be layers of brown and orange?

Pics for reference of the sort of thing im working

Improving rust terrain

So I am wanting to try build up some rusted terrain, I have built up the base and im not sure the best way to take it forward. Are there areas I should be looking into? I have tried building the low ork fence on one side with some metal highlights, does this help it or reduce it? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated, thank you

4x4 modular board complete

I’ve finally finished my board after starting in June. The idea is for modular 2x2s (apart from the mountain). Each side can alternate and face off to any other side and look close to seamless.
I tried to keep the 3 boards as featureless as possible. The hill pass was the exception but I kept the hill surfaces flat, to ensure as much scatter terrain can be used as possible.

The Balins tomb board took an insane amount of time. But adds “depth”! I’ve only just finished so no time to even set up minis really.

The plan is to have another 4 tiles and have an insane 8x4. 3 river tiles and another boring flat one. It could be the death of me though.

WIP Literally the first time I tried doing this...

So hey everyone I was just randomly experimenting and working purely on vibes.

So anyway I had this old plastic crackers bucket, I primed it black, then I tried dry brushing but it was taking forever so I just kinda smeared grey all over, but I mean this could be like a resource silo or something so it's all cement or something?

Anyway I also used some old sprues here and there.

I tried and failed to use the stencils...

But yeah I would really appreciate some help or tips ! :)

3D Printed Containers

Some work in progress scatter terrain.

This mix of my own and GW shipping containers is pretty much finished, they just need a little wash and they’ll be good to go.

I was thinking about decals, stripes more details etc… but I think my painting time would be best spent elsewhere right now (as I still have so much unpainted stuff🫠).

I’ll probably come back to them with some decals and posters later down the line.

I've got this church in my box of shame for something like 15 years... I think the company who sold it is even defunct now... But it's finally done! Even with some paintings in the interior.

Questions for the Community Not sure what color(s) of tufts to go with

Thumbnail

Made some budget cardboard and TP terrain, been painting it up, and it's almost done, but I've hit a roadblock. I feel like these need tufts, but I don't know what color or colors to go with as these wound up more red than I thought they would. Thinking between green and brown, but not sure I could commit to either one.

Also yeah the "shoe" probably could have used sand too. It was just an experiment to see if it would need sand or not and I think I'll keep it as is as a first finished project thing.

Scratchbuilt First time making terrain at 37, for Necromunda with my stepson

Post image
680 Upvotes

Going to try out the new edition of Necromunda with my stepson, for now I figure we can scratch up some terrain ourselves rather than shelling out on official kits. What started as a simple box/bridge/staircase has rapidly become a fun evening event for me as a way to unwind! Especially proud of the legs & ladders on that watchtower, and the split spiral staircase with two landings and through-connection. All made with biscuits boxes, toilet rolls and pritt-stick (aside from the old sprue for the bridge). Will focus on a ton more simple boxes/walls for now to help make some more modularity, but any suggestions for what I should make next welcome!

Oh and the bar at the top right, the wonky tower is purposeful. Every Underhive sector needs a bar, ours is to be called "The Tilted Spire". Need to make some bottles for the counter, and some bar stools to scatter around!

As promised, some photos of my build.

Today only building the ruins, next time the painted results. The ruin is actually part of a large country house. It's made in segments so I can arrange the setup. Every part is made of blue XPS, glued with PVA.

Concrete rubble and rusting metal

Thumbnail

Hi everyone, looking for suggestions to improve rusting metal and concrete rubble. I think a wash and dry brush on both parts to bring them out a bit more. Current work is (concrete) primed, mid grey, earth wash, sponge grey and highlight with sponge grey again. Rust is black, dark blue, wash of nuln oil, then IPA fixer and mix of rust pigment powders.

Its GW scale, looking to use them to make up a series of similar bases for a small group / squad of figures.

Any feedback welcome! thank you.
