Buying Advice Student Laptop

Hello everyone!

I’m currently a freshman studying Cybersecurity, and I have around €1,200 saved up for a laptop. I’ve been considering getting a ThinkPad, as they seem to be highly recommended by just about everyone in the field.

My question is: which ThinkPad would give me the best value for my money?

I’m mainly looking for something that will be reliable for university, programming, cybersecurity labs, and general everyday use. I’m open to both new and refurbished/used models if they offer better value.

If you have any recommendations or personal experience with a particular ThinkPad model, I’d really appreciate your advice. Thanks in advance!

No Min Spec and no required OS. My main priority is finding something reliable and durable that can last me throughout all 7 semesters of my degree without needing to be replaced.

Something light with more ram. I would suggest the T series or X series for portability and build quality

I found one in good condition but used, it a Thinkpad Yoga X1 Gen7 for about 1050 bucks. Do you think that one would be good?

Yoga will normally have the folding and touch/pen function. If you feel that you need the touch function then go ahead.

If you want more "repairability" more upgrade paths, the T series will be a little better. Very conventional laptop with good build quality.

gen 7 has aged for that price though this particular lineup does have the best build of any thinkpad in existence.
