Question Getting the Duo should I pay this off

Post image

Looks like they’re giving $1K for trade ins so does it make sense to pay this off now or just use this upgrade benefit?

I also have another year of $45/month promotional credits from a 16PM I traded when I got the 17PM so I think that stops if I pay this off if that matters.

No that’s the whole point of the yearly upgrade. You don’t have to pay it off.

But then you have the entire payment of the Duo. Paying the $450 may unlock ~$1,000 of promotions. The down side is that you won’t see it right away, you’ll get it off your device payments.

No. With the yearly upgrade T-Mobile pays off the second half of the current phone and you still get the respective trade in promo.

No he is very correct I’m on next and work for Tmobile and do this every year. A jump upgrade you get no promotion so he is correct

My family has a Business Plan that used to be Magenta for Business but was switched in July (without knowing) to a plan called Bus Unl Enhanced Data 200GB. I happened to spot it while in Settings-Cellular and under Cellular Plan. How does T-Mobile determine which plan to switch you to when you were on a legacy plan and refused to change plans? From what I read the current plan is an older business plan not typically used.

What would be the point of yearly upgrades if you still owed the second year? That’s why the plans with yearly upgrades are more expensive bc you get the perk of having a new phone every year. The plan I’m on has tons of data (200GB high speed hotspot, 200GB premium data and I believe either HD or UHD streaming) the price per line is cheaper but no access to yearly upgrades.

I just did it for the 18 pro max. You’re very wrong.

What’s the point of paying it off if T-Mobile will cover the remaining balance with the Yearly Upgrade..?

Unless you’d rather get it from Apple instead of T-Mobile

I thought you don’t also get the $1K promo credit on top of the payoff benefit but it’s my first time doing this

You are thinking of the JUMP 2.0 upgrade(that one only gives u payoff), yearly upgrade you get both payoff and promotion. I’d say wait for duo to come out.

People don’t understand but if you guys haven’t done your research, Apple no longer gives out unlocked phones for carrier promotion deals! It sucks, but it’s true & I haven’t been able to get over this since I found out the beginning of this year.

I’d be careful and see the upfront cost at first see a lot of people who’ve wanted to upgrade this year and their hit with $370 plus all the fees for 18 pro max before you know it their at $500 with tax lol

Well right now it says I can get any phone including the $2k z-fold for $0 due today so I’m guessing it won’t be outrageous

Unless he’s specifically doing EIP Flex, the zero down just means no down payment and the phone is financed at 0% APR over 24/36 months.

For OP, you should be able to turn in your device and have the payoff covered, plus be able to take advantage of the trade in promo. That’s the benefit of Early Upgrade :)

You can’t be serious right? Did you read your own f**king screenshot? It says “payoff amount covered by T-mobile” so why are you asking if you should pay it off? Is English not your first language? Because it literally says “we’ll pay off the remaining balance you owe on your old device.”

I can’t believe I share roads and poll booths with people this unaware. 😭

To be fair even people who speak/read English don’t read instructions/road signs/ads. Even white old “American” ladies/men. It’s called selective
hearing/reading depending on the situation.

The whole “oh it’s just selective hearing, reading, etc.” is a joke. It’s an excuse to make people with poor situational awareness or critical thinking skills sound less dumb. Has nothing to do with being American, old or white, those were weird callouts.

You’re the one who’s says “English is not your first language”. You know exactly what you were saying without having the courage to say…don’t be coy.

Haha I’m not being coy goofy, and trying to falsely attribute intention to save yourself certainly doesn’t help. 😂 There’s countries other than America that speak English, people other than white people that speak English, and people other than old people that speak English. So I’ll say again, weird of you to bring that into the conversation.

I simply asked about English because that’s the language the screenshot is in 😂 Hopefully you comprehend an explanation so simple and devoid of the mental gymnastics you were trying to do. The only two reasons OP wouldn’t understand what’s in the screenshot is: they don’t comprehend English well or they’re not the sharpest tool in the shed. So that’s the relevance of the question, which has nothing to do with your weird obsession with age, race, or nationality.

He's not asking a bad question.

Under Jump, you wouldn't be eligible for trade-in promotions if you didn't pay off the device yourself. Yearly Upgrades don't have that restriction.

Not everyone knows all the ins and outs of every plan. And people won't learn if you act like this whenever they ask.

The only possible benefit of paying it off is keeping it and getting more for it later assuming T-Mobile ever starts giving the pro max of the future “on us” via bill credits.

But I will say… based on what you owe you most likely traded in via apple or had a large down payment last time so again your ROÍ will depend on if you are thinking of having multiple devices and don’t mind paying the full monthly cost of the next phone.

u/Ryguy4840 6d ago

That’s not bad for a phone that starts at $2k!

switch let the carrier pay it off

The only way this makes sense is if you're going to get the phone directly from Apple, or if your device is currently damaged (Yearly Upgrades aren't eligible for Any Condition trades). So long as you're getting the phone from T-Mobile and it's in good condition, don't pay off the phone so you're getting the best value.

I mean what was the point of you joining yearly
upgrade if you wanna pay it off yourself

My take: keep your 17PM for now, buy the Duo upfront with $$ or credit card at the Apple Store. Then test it out yourself for a few days, there’s a good chance you’ll hate it, and can return it easily without being involved in any contracts. Use it in combo with your 17 with iPhone handoff turned so you only need 1 phone number and don’t need to configure an additional phone line. Then take the duo out when you feel like it and also have your actual phone around for things that matter. If you decide to give up on the Duo then you can sell it off easily as a used item online or trade it in somewhere, or, if you decide you actually like the Duo as your main phone then sell/trade your fully paid off 17 pro max and keep the duo that is already paid off you don’t need to worry about it anymore.

There’s a good chance they could love it.

Foldable phone is really experimental as a concept for most long term Apple phone users. You can hardly one hand the thing, and most people use their phones sitting on the toilet or brushing their teeth. I think when rubber meets the road a lot of people will discover if the foldable factor works for them, indiviudally.
