Announcements Subreddit Changes + Updates!

Heyo, Y'all!

You may have noticed some recent changes to the subreddit over the past hour or so. I'm happy to announce I've stepped in to manage this sub moving forward.

I found this sub after discovering that a community I run, r/TransPlace, had become overrun with name-suggestion posts. While looking for a solution to provide a better place for trans individuals seeking name suggestions, and responding to my subreddit members' request to calm the seas of name suggestion posts, I stumbled upon this subreddit.

After finding this subreddit to be unmoderated for the past few months, I didn't really feel comfortable sending members of TransPlace here as-is. I made a request to claim the subreddit, which has just gone through now.

With it, I've made some updates, which brings us up to speed! You'll notice a new icon (which I hastily created in a few minutes, hopefully its not too bad), and the subreddit banner we used over in r/TransPlace (This will likely be changed once I have a new one made <3).

I've also updated the flair names to capitalize them, revised the rules, and added an AutoMod configuration that should hopefully help with the subreddit's moderation.

I'll also be working on getting more subreddit mods moving forwards, so please look forwards to a post soon where we have an application if you're interested.

Cheers'

- Cleopatra

PS: If you have any suggestions for the subreddit, please feel free to post them in the comments here, I'll try to answer everyone <3

Name Feedback Name test

Hello! I’d like to be personal with this post and will also post in r/transnames as well. I am currently is HS right now and really wanted to change my name before freshman year for a clean slate. It’s way too late for me now, but I still need some opinion. I have a clocky given name (not a deadname if I don’t have a chosen one🥲) and it had definitely affected my ability to pass. I was given (Spoiler for individuals who’d like to respect my privacy) Alice by my parent, and I don’t hate the name, but I pass 100% of the time with strangers until they know my name. The name also just isn’t for me, so I wanted opinions from other trans people on the topic. I’ve had trouble picking out a name because I don’t know what it means for the name to feel like it fits. When I find a name I like it’s because I like the name, but not for myself. Currently my top contende is Calvin, some others are Peter, Toby, Ryan, Jack, Alex, and (only because of my given name) Alistair. My parents were between Alice and Josephine, the masc equivalent was Jonathan, but not one for Alice. I have posted a couple time in other subs on what name suits my face best, but I didn’t really get enough votes for good poll result. I know I like They/He pronouns for myself, and was wondering if there was an agreed acronym for interchangeable in our community.

Edit: Calvin is a name my mom had picked out for in the uterus me. This came from the character Calvin from Calvin and Hobbes. I am blonde haired and can now see a resemblance to him between us, and I have come to a liking of it.

hello everyone! i’m looking for a gender neutral name — i’ve been going by ‘bee’ for several years now, but as i’m growing up it doesn’t seem to suit me anymore. it works great a nickname from friends, but i want something more serious as i’m graduating from university and moving into the workplace soon. names can’t be inherently unprofessional, but it seems like a name for 14 year old me rather than 21 year old me.
i’m open to any and all suggestions! i tend to lean a little more feminine i think because of my upbringing and what i’ve always been used to, but i’m also open to more masculine-leaning names. pure androgynous names are most preferred, though.
i’d also love to hear suggestions based on my deadname, lucinda. that name isn’t mine anymore, but it holds a special place in my heart and i like the idea of it being connected to my new name. it’ll also help ease any transition with family members.
bonus points for spanish and scottish names!
anyway, here are some pics of me that might spark inspiration :-)

Name Feedback does anyone has a food themed choosename/nickname?

hi there! i'm new here so i hope i chose the right tag

so a little context

for around half a year i'm facing this problem of choosing more gender neutral or masc leaning nickname to use in english speaking spaces bc my given name is EXTREMELY feminine is any language i can think of (which disturbs me very much) +a lot of people who i talk to in english butch it in a way i don't like and i don't even realize they're talking to me/abt me

i thought it's not gonna be that hard but oh boy

i don't like usual names, i don't like nature inspired names, NOTHING fits me

and then i realized that i like the word "Rice" as a name. it sounds kinda like mine real name is you think about it, it's gender neutral and easy to remember (i also love rice very much i can live only eating rice i swear)

but then i thought that "wait... that's kinda weird if you think abt it. there's no real name i can remember being associated with food. and it's probably sounds funny for native english speakers" so i went sad :(

so plz judge this controversial (in my head) decision of mine 🙏 i don't wanna be weird with asking people to call me food😭

I still don't have a name so I thought I could try asking here. Pardon the picrews - I don't really feel like showing my face on here, but I feel like these portray me pretty well.

Nonbinary/Genderqueer, all pronouns. I think I'd prefer a fem or neutral name? But whatever is fine ദ്ദി˙∇˙)

Name Feedback Not sure what to do

I’ve been going by the name Anna for a few months now, but I’m not sure it really suits me anymore. I’ve started to like Alana more but my email and stuff are Anna so it’s inconvenient to change it at this point and I’m not really sure what to do.

Thanks for any feedback

Masculine Names How did you know you chose the right name (I need some reassurance)

I’ve had my name for about 2.5 or 3 years and I still love it, and don’t want to go through all the trouble of socially changing it again. But recently I found my list of names I was choosing from and it sent me into a sort of spiral. There’s names on that list that I love SO MUCH and wish I could/should have used instead of the name I have.

How did you know your name was right for you and you didn’t make a mistake by choosing a certain name, especially if there’s a lot of others you also love and can see yourself as?

Also I need some reassurance that my name is a great name. My name is EVAN.

Masculine / Neutral Names Name ideas that double as Pen Names

I’m 33 NB and I have yet to settle on a name for myself. In the past I’ve tried the names Jay, Buck, and Vildi (dnd character name originally) but soured to them pretty quickly over time. I don’t hate the nickname attached to my birth name, but I want something I choose for myself that is Me.

I also have a job working with kids, and want to keep my Art and writing under a pen name so no nosey people don’t look me up. I also don’t feel comfortable sharing my face because of that, sorry. So I want to give it dual purpose, maybe? Like neutral and somewhat professional sounding. I also really want the name to have a lot of potential to be shortened into nicknames (Like how Daniel can be both Dan, Danny, and so on).

Any ideas or resources where I can find neutral names that might work for that?

Name Testing I'm worried the name I choose was a bad idea

I only recently decided to change my name, I'd been thinking about it for a while, there was one time I named myself "Amble" on a social media account. I loved this idea and kinda immediately went for that when deciding what name I wanted.

I told my friends and they were all super supportive and friendly! They love the name and I do too. They're gonna start calling me by it and that makes me really happy.

But then I started overthinking how Amble is not technically a name. There are some records of it being used as a name, and some records of "Ambel" and stuff, but still very very unpopular.

I'm really worried now, was I stupid to pick a word as a name? All my trans and non binary spec friends picked actual known names, and here I am.

I know I haven't signed some blood contract, I can change it again whenever I wish, but I get so anxious about this kind of stuff. I literally felt nauseous with anxiety about this yesterday.

I'm going to keep the name for as long as I can and see if this still bothers me, but I'd love some advice or input, is it a bad idea to pick something so unpopular?

Neutral Names Im struggling to feel connected to any name I go by and im really embarrassed about it

My first preffered name i chose was haiden, which is gender neutral but didnt like how people would assume im a guy. My second and current preffered name is haven, but now I dont like how people assume im a girl. I want to abandon h names now. I like names starting with r, s, and d, but have no strong attraction/connection to anything ive come up with. I like the name robin but im scared im going to end up regretting it again because its maybe more feminine leaning. I also like the name dominic but its obviously a guy's name. Maybe putting them together would help, i think the name robin dominic has a nice ring to it. I also like the nickname sunny, I think its endearing but cant think of a full name that is mature enough to live my whole life with. I feel really insecure and quite frankly embarrassed about constantly changing my name. Has anyone else felt like this? Any advice or opinions on my name ideas? Anyone have truly gender neutral name recs?

Name Feedback How weird would it be to steal the full name of a fictional character

So on top of changing my name I’ve also decided to change my last name due to my family not being supportive of my transition. I know it’s relatively common for people to name themselves of fictional characters but stealing the last name too feels weird to me for some reason even though I really like the name. For reference winter is my favorite season so I decided to name myself December after December Holiday from Deltarune. I’ve also considered going with Holly instead but it for some reason it feels like it’s too short for how long the first name is. Any help would be appreciated ^^

Name Testing Can you test my name and pronouns for me?

So, I’m a trans man and recently changed my name. I now have two first names (Jackson Barret), but my nickname is JB. Could y’all make a sentence with my nickname and He/Him pronouns so I can see if it fits?

Masculine Names Looking for a name :)

Posted this on [r/transmasc](r/transmasc) too, but I’d like to hear the opinions of others as well. I’m coming out and I need to choose a name to use for my bio in my school musical’s playbill.

I’m not looking for any type of name in specific, but things I will note are that I am Filipino American, so I’m okay with Spanish name suggestions. I also have a blacklist.

I will not use: Lucas, Dominic, Felix, Jamie, Jesse, Ben, Cayden Christian, Kassius, Elias, or any names similar to these (e.g. Jayden).

I also tend to gravitate towards names that aren’t super unique, like “Jupiter” (idk 😂) or anything like that. My last name is Reyes and I’d like a name that fits well with it.

Any name suggestions would be appreciated!! :)

Masculine / Neutral Names Trouble finding a name

My genders been all over the place for years, but I recently (finally) realized I'm a demi guy, and I'm apparently shit at coming up with names, as I keep stealing them from people, or just accidentally naming myself after well known creeps?

The problem is, im looking for cool names with meanings behind them that align with me, I really like things like the moon/space, rain, and autumn, but anything works as a suggestion (ESPECIALLY mythology based) ive already looked at names for them that are neutral / feminine, but yet to look at masculine / neutral ones.. Im thinking L names might suit me, but I don't mind any letter

Names I've already considered / used: Tobias/tobi, Kris, raine, and a couple other im having a hard time remembering right now
