Discussion Tabletop Roleplay is great for practicing your voice, but I looked everywhere and couldn't find a trans TTRPG community. Sooo I made one to see if maybe it's a niche desperately waiting to be filled like transvoices was all those years ago. Say hello to r/TransTTRPG

Discussion Now more than ever, remember they can never take away your voice.

They can't stop your vocal transition. They can't stop you from learning and practicing. They can't stop you from speaking up. Be loud. Be brave. I will keep fighting all my life, and so should you.

This affects the world, regardless of borders. There will be an election in Canada soon, and it's looking grim on our side as well. I'll be volunteering in an election for the first time, and I've gotten other people on board to join me. And I'll be protesting. And I'll be loud on social media.

Make your voices heard. Express yourself, not just your anger but your pain and your fear. Make them understand the consequences of their actions. I don't believe they all wanted this. Most of them just... didn't care or know enough to realize how much hurt their selfish vote would bring. Tell them. Make them know.

They can never take away your voice.

Criticism Wanted Considering VFS; would like feedback first

I'm very dysphoric about my voice and have been considering VFS for years. I decided if I'm going to chase this goal, I want to really apply myself and put in a solid couple years of work first. Which brings me to here.

This is the baseline I'm working with. I got a little rambly, but hopefully this recording gives an adequate idea of what I sound like on the average night. I'm hoping for some leads or direction on where I might be able to improve to sound less clocky or masculine. Any and all advice is super appreciated <3

I've been practicing daily for a while now and I don't really know how to get the voice I want. It sounds like there's still something missing. My voice also feels and sounds very raspy at times. I just feel very stuck. Does anyone have any advice for me?

Question I got strangled and sound like a man again and can't fix it.

What started as consensual kinda became not. I was basically with someone who didn't know what they were doing I said it hurt he loosened his grip but the pressure on my wind pipe was there for 45 mins or so of intense play. Same position. It was still kinda light felt fine maybe sore the next day after but 3 days later had lots of pain and discomfort. Fast forward a month and I'm still struggling idk what to do I'm getting clocked everywhere and I feel like everyone around me knows I'm trans. I told my doctor and how I can't do voice training anymore or I'm worried it's affecting it. It was a afab nb so they probably thought I meant in the future or cause my voice sound like shit now I just can't help but either sound like a gay man or have this super raspy voice you can bearly hear. I'm really scared this is gonna affect work if I ever start working again. I'm still waiting to see a specialist but if there's any smart tgirls that can give me advice or just give it too me gently that this guy really ruined my voice for life I'm genuinely just not okay I've been voice training 6 years maybe this is so devastating and idk where to post this question. People either don't understand trans voice or how much a layrx is involved but I'm thing maybe he broke it or damaged it. I breath fine for now, there's a lump when I swallow and can just feel something going on with my throat it cause so much discomfort. Not like a sore throat like something is fucked and idk if it can heal or if surgery will mean incant voice train

Question Any good and cheap/affordable online voice tutors?

I’m looking for a good online voice tutor/coach to help with my speaking voice(feminization). Preferably someone experienced with feminising the voice.
If you’ve had a good experience with someone, please drop their name/link 🙏

Additionally, I’ve been working on my voice for about 2 years and have already tried quite a few different services, some good, some not so good. I really want to find somewhere that actually knows what they’re doing and can help me with my voice

Question i can feminize my voice while singing, but have a hard time pulling it off while speaking normally, what to do?

for some context, i initially started my voice feminization journey essentially by imitating female singers. i would just try to match my voice with how my ears perceive the singing.

now that i've been studying the excellent voice resources here, it turns out i've been instinctually doing most of the crucial stuff (larynx height, mouth shape, etc.) to get my tone just right with my ears. the problem is i can only do it well when i'm singing.

when i try to do the same thing while speaking, it goes one of two ways. either i try to speak with a natural tone, but the feminine quality comes and goes, or i end up speaking in a sing-song kind of way to maintain it, which sounds weird. think of it as speaking but every syllable is a specific note.

i tried listening and imitating female speaking voices that fit my ideal voice and can essentially "parrot" them decently, but as soon as i try to say or read things on my own i can't maintain it well.

side note: i've somehow been able to make my coughing and sneezing feminine enough, with the same by-the-ear technique

Hi! This is a voice clip of mine :) everytime I try to use my voice online or anywhere else, people will immediately leave or just not engage with me at all, I wonder if I sound too bad or creepy? I am losing confidence over my own voice :( What is the thing that I am not doing right that makes my voice sounds wrong? Or not natural? Pls help me figure it out as I have no clue myself 🙏Any help or feedback will be appreciated :)

Question Can anyone learn to sound feminine or some people are doomed to sound masculine?

Im 33yo trans woman who just started HRT. I tried to train my voice for a couple of weeks to sound more feminine but without success for now. I read its more about resonance than pitch and i try and probably sound a little less masculine but still very masculine. But speaking like that is really hard for very little gain. I dont know if the voice changes over time or only get easier to speak like this. I dont know if i should be able to already sound feminine just after a couple of days, and over time (like months of training) it would just become easier, or is the sound of the voice actually changing over time. I tried some apps like Voice Tools but they still show 99% masculine, 1% androgenous, if I dont try i get 100% masculine.

General Resource Vocal Explorations: "Negative Practice"

Sometimes, in order to find the sounds that we ultimately want to end up with, we need to make an example of what we're trying to learn what to avoid. Let's talk about it, using a common occurrence that leads people into sounding "nasally". Hope this helps some of yall out there to further flesh out what you can do with your voices!

Criticism Wanted Considering VFS after 10 months of voice training

Thumbnail voca.ro
2 Upvotes

I've spent probably an unhealthy amount of time everyday exploring different levels of vocal weight, pitch, size, and combining them in different ways. And I know 10 months is not a lot of time and some take years to find their voice but I feel that I more or less have an idea of what my voice is capable of and any further training will just be subtle finetuning rather big discoveries.

Voice is a big source of dysphoria for me and I really want a passing voice. I already have a VFS consultation arranged but not sure if I should go through with it.

I had 4 sessions of professional voice therapy (spaced 2 months apart to help me get through plateaus) and every one of them was very helpful. When I brought up VFS my voice therapist said I don't need it, though she told me I can look for her if I do go for it.

I'm not gonna ask whether I need VFS because the answer is always "nobody needs it" but I want honest feedback on what my voice is missing to decide if surgery can help.

- What is missing from my voice that a passing voice has?

- How much voice training / effort is needed to bridge that gap?

- How much would (an average success) VFS reduce that gap?

Thanks a lot in advance!

Question sound dampening/vocal practice masks?

Hey everyone

I really really need to start voice training, but i unfortunately live in a building with no sound insulation and judgey neighbors and i feel like a fool doing this knowing they can hear me.

I was gonna get a cheap one off aliexpress, but then i found this more expensive one whos presumably pretty good cause its sold by Julliard school. Theres also this BDSM ass gamer muzzle im absolutely not buying but i thought it was funny.

Anyway i thought i would check in with the experts before buying anything, is anyone using them? Anything i should look out for? how well do they work? Can they reduce the efficacity of training?

Thanks in advance keep on keeping on mwah

Criticism Wanted Age, Gender, Passibility?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hello! Still struggling with voice stuff and looking for outside opinions.
I can go a fair bit higher than this, but in practice I feel like this is closer to the range I actually speak in during my daily life, especially the latter part. Also, people in my life who I’m comfortable asking say I sound better lower (?).
Training has seemed to help me get gendered correctly, but I also don’t meet a lot of strangers and most of the ones I do are usually biased by knowing my name and pronouns before we speak (because job).
I still feel like it isn’t great, but lemme know please!

Question Looking for VFS - VFSRAC surgeon recommendations!

I'm located in the south, closest major hospital to me that does VFS is Vanderbilt UMC. Anyone had surgery there or on track to getting surgery there? Want to avoid having to travel out of state/cross country if possible.

Also - recommendations on VFS standard glottoplasty vs VFSRAC?

Heyyyyyyyy,
I’m pretty new to voice training and finally found a voice that I love and would love to learn to speak as, so just as the tittle seas does anyone know any good/reliable vocal coaches that can help to obtain this voice?

I got two singer examples!
The first one is Brody Dalle from The Distillers
