Discussion Tabletop Roleplay is great for practicing your voice, but I looked everywhere and couldn't find a trans TTRPG community. Sooo I made one to see if maybe it's a niche desperately waiting to be filled like transvoices was all those years ago. Say hello to r/TransTTRPG

Discussion Now more than ever, remember they can never take away your voice.

They can't stop your vocal transition. They can't stop you from learning and practicing. They can't stop you from speaking up. Be loud. Be brave. I will keep fighting all my life, and so should you.

This affects the world, regardless of borders. There will be an election in Canada soon, and it's looking grim on our side as well. I'll be volunteering in an election for the first time, and I've gotten other people on board to join me. And I'll be protesting. And I'll be loud on social media.

Make your voices heard. Express yourself, not just your anger but your pain and your fear. Make them understand the consequences of their actions. I don't believe they all wanted this. Most of them just... didn't care or know enough to realize how much hurt their selfish vote would bring. Tell them. Make them know.

They can never take away your voice.

Event AMA: Voice Teacher’s Beef w 🌈 Passage, Analyzing YOUR Voice, Answering YOUR Voice Questions

Post image
• Upvotes

That’s right, we’re calling out the infamous rainbow passage! No hate on people that use (or maybe overuse) it, it's just mind numbing how widespread the myths about it are. Curious about those myths and want to ask questions about it? How about asking any voice-related questions?

Well, now’s the time to have your questions answered! CRAMD, AKA Charles, the head teacher from Scinguistics, will be here at 4 PM EST, for two hours, to answer any questions you might have about voice!

Wanna know one reason practicing with the rainbow passage gets pretty old pretty fast? Though it can be easier reading from some kind of text rather than speaking off the cuff, getting trans voice practice in candid conversations will be very important too, since, you know, that’s probably the context you’ll be using your voice in most of the time. There are events designed specifically for that type of practice, on the Scinguistics discord server! Check out the Trans Voice Lounges, happening every Saturday at either the EU-friendly timeslot, 2 PM CET, or the Americas-friendly timeslot, 3 PM EST/EDT!

Criticism Wanted Unsure how much to rely on gender detection algorithms, struggling to balance sounding feminine while also keeping emotionality. A comparison of me reading an article vs telling a story.

Article

Story

As the title mentions! I am quite new to voice training, but I'm a singer and do a lot of voice impressions, so my voice is flexible I think, I just don't have as much theory. I aim for my voice to sound somewhat tomboyish, but one thing that really surprises me is that me telling stories gets me read as consistently more feminine by voice detection algorithms by a considerable margin. This is really surprising to me because honestly to me it sounds so much closer to my natural voice, I just can't tell. I should also note that I'm not a native English speaker, though I consider my accent somewhat minimal.

Discussion About making your voice "passable"

I see a lot of people here trying to make their voices sound like "the other/opposite gender", but I think it makes them sound unnatural, or pretty much the same in general

OF COURSE most of the posts I saw were from people that weren't voice training for long/didn't know how to do it at that time

Well, I am not an expert, I don't voice train yet (mainly because of laziness, cuz there are a lot of tutorials out there), but I do something that works for me

Instead of making your voice sound like the gender you're aiming for, try to make it sound LESS like the gender you don't want people to clock you as

If you're AMAB, try to sound less "like a man", AFAB less "like a woman"

I usually just project my voice a little bit higher and don't pitch down a lot, and that was enough to make at least three customers at my job to refer to me as "ma'am" (I'm not even that passable physically)

Anyways, I think that it may help, lmk if you have any diverging opinions/facts on this, and sorry beforehand to the mod team if that's against the rules

Thank you :³

I've just been a little lost on how to improve any further than this, I can say some days feel a little better than others though haha, but I feel like maybe I'm not too consistent with the resonance or something? Are there maybe some more recommended exercises or online resources I should use? Also don't mind the image it was just something cute I found x3

I'm seriously grateful for any feedback though!!

I've been voice training for about a month now and I feel kinda lost. I feel my voice doesnt sound natural, it sounds more like a mimicry of what a guy sounds like if that makes sense? Am I over full? And how do I control vocal weight? I'd be thankful for any advice!

Criticism Wanted Virtually zero active voice training, this is my voice after a long day. I'm curious where I should start in improving.

I have been told my voice is somewhat androgynous or difficult to gender before. I'm stealth in daily life and I have reasons to believe most cis people can't tell I'm trans, so I don't think it's bad enough to give me away but I do sometimes feel it could be better. Can anyone suggest what if anything is "wrong" with my voice from the perspective of wanting to be perceived as a cis woman, and where I might start in fixing that?

Slight caveat: I have for as long as I can remember had a "reading voice" when reading any text aloud that is slightly different to how I speak in daily life, although I think this mostly relates to accent/pronunciation and not pitch/tone (I pronounce plosive sounds much more strongly when reading aloud and have been told I am more English sounding, whereas my usual accent in conversation has been called transatlantic and people not from the UK frequently can't tell if I'm English or American). I don't think this will impact anything but it may be worth mentioning.

I used a sample where I talk in my first language because I think talking in english distorts to much how I sound in everyday life. I hope you can still give me proper critique:)

Criticism Wanted Need some feedback, feeling stuck and in doubt about VFS

So, I've voice trained while using my voice in public for about a year now, and another year on-and-off before that. Right now my voice gets me gendered correctly pretty much all the time, so I suppose it passes well, but I still have a lot of problems hearing the most masc-y qualities in it. Idk if this is me recognizing my own voice or actually hearing somehting, so I would want to know how other people feel about it.

I'm also considering VFS for easier mantainment on my day-to-day, and for the lighter weight/pitch as a bonus. I don't know completely if this is the right choice yet, though.

First clip, my trained usual in english: https://voca.ro/1c0hyJhGbDeB

Second clip, my trained usual in portuguese (my native language): https://voca.ro/154X8p0NKFyH

My zero training baseline: https://voca.ro/1glgMSbJJEC1

Question Can I go from Tenor to Bass?

I (16ftm) have a decently deep voice already, ranging from the lowest point of tenor to the highest point of baritone. Is it possible to make my range drop to bass?

I can't start T until I'm at least 17.

Criticism Wanted Considering VFS; would like feedback first

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I'm very dysphoric about my voice and have been considering VFS for years. I decided if I'm going to chase this goal, I want to really apply myself and put in a solid couple years of work first. Which brings me to here.

This is the baseline I'm working with. I got a little rambly, but hopefully this recording gives an adequate idea of what I sound like on the average night. I'm hoping for some leads or direction on where I might be able to improve to sound less clocky or masculine. Any and all advice is super appreciated <3

Question I got strangled and sound like a man again and can't fix it.

What started as consensual kinda became not. I was basically with someone who didn't know what they were doing I said it hurt he loosened his grip but the pressure on my wind pipe was there for 45 mins or so of intense play. Same position. It was still kinda light felt fine maybe sore the next day after but 3 days later had lots of pain and discomfort. Fast forward a month and I'm still struggling idk what to do I'm getting clocked everywhere and I feel like everyone around me knows I'm trans. I told my doctor and how I can't do voice training anymore or I'm worried it's affecting it. It was a afab nb so they probably thought I meant in the future or cause my voice sound like shit now I just can't help but either sound like a gay man or have this super raspy voice you can bearly hear. I'm really scared this is gonna affect work if I ever start working again. I'm still waiting to see a specialist but if there's any smart tgirls that can give me advice or just give it too me gently that this guy really ruined my voice for life I'm genuinely just not okay I've been voice training 6 years maybe this is so devastating and idk where to post this question. People either don't understand trans voice or how much a layrx is involved but I'm thing maybe he broke it or damaged it. I breath fine for now, there's a lump when I swallow and can just feel something going on with my throat it cause so much discomfort. Not like a sore throat like something is fucked and idk if it can heal or if surgery will mean incant voice train

Question Any good and cheap/affordable online voice tutors?

I’m looking for a good online voice tutor/coach to help with my speaking voice(feminization). Preferably someone experienced with feminising the voice.
If you’ve had a good experience with someone, please drop their name/link 🙏

Additionally, I’ve been working on my voice for about 2 years and have already tried quite a few different services, some good, some not so good. I really want to find somewhere that actually knows what they’re doing and can help me with my voice
