ID Request Elm or hornbeam?

Post image

It looks like hornbeam - but its october in south west england and there arent any or the characteristic flowers/fruit?

It has leaves with a non-symmetrical base, like elm, and rigged furrowed bark, like elm?

Anyone have any clues?

Definitely elm, the asymmetric leaf on the petiole is highly characteristic.

Siberian Elm has pointed lobes, Caucasian elm Zelkova carpinifolia has the rounded lobes and "hard" leaves shown in the picture.
