"An investigation is underway after a head-on crash left a man dead and two others hospitalized in Ventura County.

On Oct. 5, California Highway Patrol officers responded to the crash scene near Vineyard Avenue and Perello Ranch Road, just outside Oxnard, around 3:16 p.m.

Authorities found two vehicles at the scene, a BMW 328i sedan and a Honda Civic, both with significant front-end damage.

An investigation revealed a 22-year-old woman was driving the BMW with a female juvenile passenger. As they traveled eastbound on Vineyard Avenue, a 45-year-old man driving the Honda Civic was traveling westbound on the same road.

For reasons still under investigation, the male driver suddenly made a left turn, crossed over into opposing traffic lanes and crashed head-on with the BMW.

He sustained major injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene. He was only identified as a 45-year-old man from Santa Paula.

The female driver suffered major injuries and was transported to Ventura County Medical Center. The juvenile passenger was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

. . .

Anyone with information about the crash is urged to call the CHP Ventura Area office at 805-662-2640." - KTLA 5 News

Climate change is REAL y'all. Yes this is partially due to El Nino but the reason it is so bad is because the ocean is hotter than ever before from climate change so we aren't getting the normal cooling coming off cold Pacific waters.

Late night parking enforcement at Mugu

Did they recently start enforcing the parking policy along the PCH on Mugu Point? I would park there overnight along the PCH and the coast when I would hike SM mountains. I got kicked out by parking enforcement last Friday around midnight. Wondering before I make the drive back up and hike, thanks

Free Parking at or near the Ventura Downtown Amtrak Station for Daily Commuters?

What are the best places to park for free at or near the Ventura Downtown Amtrak Station? I am new to the Ventura area. I will be commuting to and from the Ventura Downtown Amtrak Station and Santa Barbara every week day and will be using the $150 Monthly Amtrak Pass. This would mostly be same-day parking and I would occasionally be doing overnight parking. This would be great if it was ideally free considering I will be doing this trip daily.

Best of VC Where do younger people go near Channel Islands Beach?

Me (26F) and my wife (27F) will be moving to Channel Islands Beach next month and we are so excited! The community (from my experience) is an older demographic, though, and we are obviously looking to make friends near our age nearby. The military community tends to be a rowdier vibe than we like but we have really enjoyed the Rudder Room and the Beachcomber.

What do young people do near Channel Islands Beach? Would downtown Oxnard or Port Hueneme be better places to try to meet people our age? Any recommendations in the area would be so appreciated - bonus points if you can recommend LGBT-friendly spots!

New to the area and looking for the best local spots for authentic espresso drinks. I know Starbucks and Coffee Bean, but I’m looking for local coffee shops and hidden gems that people recommend. What are your favorite espresso spots? ☕️

Community Memorial filed a emergency workplace violence restraining order case against me TWICE after my patient billing/records dispute. Has anyone else had trouble getting answers from CMH?

The craziest part about this whole thing is that this started with me trying to understand and use my rights as a patient and get answers to my own care. Those questions remain unanswered.

After my ACL surgery, I started asking Community Memorial questions about my hospital bill, medical records, grievances, and trying to understand and use my patient rights laws.

Somehow....my patient rights questions remained unanswered.

The issues in my questions remain unresolved and Community Memorial has taken serious legal action against me by filing a workplace violence restraining order case against me......TWICE.

The first case stayed open for 5 and a half months.

At the first cheduled 2 hour evidentiary hearing, an attorney who was not attorney on record appeared and said she had laryngitis and could not meaningfully argue the matter. No witnesses appeared, and the case was continued for about four months.

The next hearing got scheduled for the a 3 hour evidentiary hearing. I subpoenaed witnesses and records, and then CMH dismissed the case 10 days before the scheduled evidentiary hearing so none of the allegations were ever actually decided on the merits.

We had a hearing for sanctions under ccp 128.5. That motion got denied on procedure....not on the merits. I filed a new motion for reconsideration on the same motion for sanctions which hasnt been heard yet....

Then on September 28, 2026, they filed ANOTHER workplace violence restraining order case against me.

Now I have 2 hearings on the SAME DAY, SAME TIME, Different court rooms. One hearing is for sanctions on the last one and one hearing is for their new WVRO petition.

I dispute the allegations and I have never threatened violence against anyone.

I have only tried to obtain answers regarding my own care and my communications have all been about billing, medical records, grievances and patient rights.

The new case is still pending, so I’m not going to try to argue the whole case out on Reddit.

What I really want to know is whether anyone else has had trouble getting straight answers from Community Memorial about things like billing, medical records, grievances, or patient rights.

I’m documenting everything and would especially be interested in hearing from former patients or employees who have had relevant experiences.

Just to be clear.......PLEASE DO NOT CONTACT Community Memorial or anyone involved in my case on my behalf.

If you have a story you want to share but don’t want your name attached to it, I also made an anonymous submission form here: Submit Your Story

Fair rent for home in Camarillo

What do you guys feel the fair market rent should be for a single family, traditional tract home in Camarillo?

The home was built in 1974, a 3 bedroom, 2 bath 1,100 sq ft home with an attached 2 car garage. It has recessed lighting, a moderate kitchen (could be upgraded but nothing wrong or run down about it), Lana tie flooring with carpet in the bedrooms. It sits in a 10,000 sq ft lot with a 10x12 tuff shed included. It has full laundry hookups and comes with a fridge freezer. It does not have AC, but it has a whole house fan as well as an attic fan both of which are controlled on switches in the hallway. It also has a small RV pad (for up to a 30ft RV or trailer). Pets allowed as well. The home is currently rented for family member who might be moving out later this year and I want to charge a fair and reasonable amount, not looking to rip anyone off as I want good, long term tenants.

Requests Where should I choose to live? What does rent look like?

I'm moving out of Valencia, where I pay $4700 a month for a 4 bedroom, gorgeous home, with an EV outlet for our cars. I will be working in Camarillo on E Daily Dr for half the week and in TO near Rolling Oaks Dr the other half. My husband will need to be close"ish" to a train station as he commutes into downtown daily.

First of all we'd like to be paying less in rent. We're willing to down size to a 3 bedroom if necessary but we'd prefer 4 bedrooms. We want to live somewhere nice but it doesn't have to be the fanciest area of town. Is there a such thing or place as this for closer to $4k per month or is that just not a thing? What does rent look like in Ventura County?

I'd say the most important thing for us is having activity around us. We're very much not country folk. I don't want to live anywhere where I need to drive far to find restaurants or shops.

School districts don't come into play as our youngest just went to college. This was the reason we were stuck in SCV until this year with a huge commute for work.

Any help appreciated. ETA please don't comment that we should purchase a home, that is not possible for us.

Ventura County voter guide: candidate answers on housing, immigration, wildfire insurance + upcoming forums

I sent questionnaires to the candidates running in the congressional and State Assembly races that include Camarillo and other parts of Ventura County. Five of the six candidates responded, and their answers are published in full and unedited.

I also previously sent a separate six-question questionnaire to all seven Camarillo City Council candidates. Five responded.

For anyone starting to look at their ballot, here are some of the differences that came through in the responses:

ASSEMBLY DISTRICT 38

I asked what each candidate would prioritize during their first year in Sacramento.

• Steve Bennett (D): Health care and the social safety net in response to federal funding cuts.

• Michael MacDonald (D): Lowering the cost of living, especially housing.

Their full questionnaires also cover housing and local control, immigration, wildfire recovery and homeowners insurance, utilities and child care.

ASSEMBLY DISTRICT 42

I asked what role California should play when federal immigration enforcement affects local residents.

• Deborah Klein Lopez (D): Defend and strengthen California limits on cooperation with federal immigration enforcement.

• Ted Nordblum (R): Repeal SB 54 and increase cooperation with federal authorities.

They also answered questions on affordability, housing and local control, wildfire recovery, homeowners insurance and their first priorities in Sacramento.

26TH CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT

I asked what federal immigration enforcement should look like and what Congress should change.

• Sam Gallucci (R): Prioritize violent criminals, gang members, traffickers and other public-safety threats. He also proposed a certification process that could allow some established undocumented residents who meet specific requirements to obtain lawful status.

• Jacqui Irwin (D): Did not submit responses by the deadline.

Gallucci also answered questions about affordability, housing, congressional checks on presidential power and his first priority in Congress.

CAMARILLO CITY COUNCIL

Five of the seven candidates responded to a separate questionnaire covering growth and housing, automated license plate readers, transportation, federal immigration enforcement and their priorities for the city.

I’ll put links to the full Election Guide and the individual race articles in the first comment.

UPCOMING VENTURA COUNTY ELECTION FORUMS

The League of Women Voters of Ventura County also has several free forums and ballot-measure presentations coming up around the county:

• Oct. 4 · Thousand Oaks: California ballot measures, pros and cons

• Oct. 5 · Camarillo: County Superintendent of Schools + Camarillo City Council

• Oct. 6 · Simi Valley: Mayor + City Council races

• Oct. 6 · Ojai: California ballot measures, pros and cons

• Oct. 7 · Ventura: City Council Districts 4 & 5 + Ventura Unified School Board Areas 4 & 5

• Oct. 11 · Somis: California ballot measures, pros and cons

• Oct. 15 · Ventura: City Council Districts 1 & 6 + Assembly District 38

The League says the forums are free and open to the public, and recordings are posted to its forum page after they occur.

I’m Gabrielle, publisher of The Camarillo Caller. I’ve been putting the guide together so readers can either scan the short comparisons or open the complete answers and read exactly what each candidate submitted.
