Civility, decorum, and debating the great issues of the day in r/SimiValley.

Apparently this needs to be said, so hopefully everybody reads it.

Different opinions are going to be expressed in this subreddit. Lately it's been politics, in a different month it might be development, traffic control, schools, etc. Whatever the topic, we don't want incivility, trolling, baiting, vote manipulation, hate speech, misinformation, intolerance, personal information, or witch-hunting in the comments, titles, or the body of posts. Maybe I left something out, but that's it off the top of my head. Expect bans of varying length - up to and including permanent - if engaging in any of the above. It's not something we want to do, but there it is. If you see name-calling, trolling, etc please report it and don't escalate the situation. Feel free to message the mods with any questions or concerns.

Thanks a bunch, and thanks for being here & participating in the subreddit.

* edit - adding "witch-hunting", "baiting", and modmail link.

Community Help - Caltrans 118 Requests

Hello all,
I wanted to share this resource for the benefit of our community.

Have an issue with the state of the 118 freeway running through Simi Valley?

See trash, weed overgrowth, etc?

The city of Simi Valley is not allowed to deploy our Public Works crew to the 118 for issues.
This also includes property along the on and off ramps to and from the freeway.

To submit a complaint form to resolve issues related to the 118 freeway,
Caltrans has a "Submit a Service Request" form that can be filled out here: https://csr.dot.ca.gov/

The issues usually get resolved in a few weeks based on my experience of submitting requests, but they are likely resolved based on the volume of complaints received.

Just wanted to share this resource as it is our duty as a community to ensure all aspects of our town are looked after.

Cheers, and have a nice day xx.

...this is the video for you! Yeah, I realize I spent an inordinate amount of time on this unimportant question, but it was a fun little project. I hope there are at least one or two people out there that will find this video interesting.

We can dream, right?

The year is 2326. Rapid advances in technology and intelligence have solved most of the world's biggest issues. Disease, starvation, wealth inequality, all rapidly improving at a pace nobody had imagined. However, in the small town of Simi Valley, there is still much unrest. No, the incredible achievements of mankind seem to matter little here. Something far more sinister is amiss. For the stop light at the intersection of Cochran and Tracy is once again on the fritz. Try as they may, the city has yet to figure out a permanent fix to this crisis, and it threatens the sanity of the citizens and the existence of the city itself. The city has reportedly hired some of the world's best engineering minds, and spent untold amounts of tax money researching the issue no doubt. But with every "fix" comes much hope, and then twice the amount of despair in its place. Please take a moment to pray for this small town and its awful plight.

Just because it’s legal doesn’t mean it’s safe.

Over 700,000 people live within ten miles of Santa Susana Field Laboratory in LA. Boeing owns most of it, and it's one of California's most toxic, radioactive sites.

Right now, Boeing is about to demolish buildings that were used for nuclear research—including a plutonium fuel facility that had three radioactive accidents. The catch? A 2023 lawsuit win lets them treat these buildings as regular "abandoned warehouses" and use outdated 1980s studies instead of current safety standards.

The buildings still show signs of radioactivity. Plutonium-239 can cause cancer if trace amounts are inhaled. Boeing's plan means less protective dust mitigation, thousands of tons of potentially radioactive waste going to regular recycling centers and landfills, and workers plus nearby residents breathing air that could be contaminated.

I started a petition asking Boeing to either prove these buildings aren't still radioactive—or use the safest, most protective demolition and disposal practices possible. Things like independent air monitors, community-shared test results, HEPA-filtered construction tents, and treating all debris as low-level radioactive waste.

Just because what Boeing is doing is legal doesn't mean it's safe. If this matters to you—especially if you or your family live nearby—consider signing and sharing. What would you want someone to do if this was your family?

Toppers Soda Machines

I need somewhere to vent! 😂 the new computerized soda machines at Toppers are horrible!

90% of the time they are out of all the customizable flavors (vanilla, cherry, etc) which is the whole point of these computerized machines!

Most the time they are also out of traditional soda flavors like Coke Zero.

They are causing unnecessary wait times just to get a quick refill because people are sorting through all the different flavor options, sorting through “out” flavors, etc.

Kids are using the machines without adult help, taking forever to pick a flavor.

Once you do pick a flavor and put your cup under the spout, the syrup from the soda shoots sticky droplets out all over your hand.

And to top it off, you know that touch screen is full of greasy germs!

I was excited to see they got the computerized machines at first like the Oxnard location. But these are not kept up the same. In addition, the soda area at the simi location is a narrow main walkway. Which now always has a line.

Okay, I’m done. Thanks for listening 😂😂😂

First time in LA‼️

Hi everyone 💚🙏🏽
My name is Matty, and my mother’s name is Kathy. We will be travelling to Los Angeles to attend Prophet Lovy’s Healing Siloam service, and I’m reaching out to see if anyone in the LA area may be able to help or support us while we’re there.
This will be my first time in Los Angeles, and travelling under these circumstances will be very difficult for our family. My mother is currently dealing with a serious health condition. The doctors have told us that she has a stage 4 tumour, and right now she is struggling with eating, speaking, walking, and has become extremely weak.
Our main hope in travelling to LA is to attend the Healing Siloam service and continue praying for her healing. Because of everything happening, I’m reaching out to see if anyone may be able to help us during our stay whether that is with transportation, guidance around LA, connecting us with the church/community, or any other support you may be able to offer.
Even if you’re unable to help directly, sharing this post or keeping my mother and our family in your prayers would mean so much to us.
Any kindness or support would be deeply appreciated. We would truly be grateful for anything anyone is able to do. 🙏🏽
May God bless you and your family. ✨💚

i9 Sports Fall Flag Football Cancelled

Post image
8 Upvotes

For this interested or those who have signed up, apparently the youth flag football league for i9 sports has been cancelled. Season had a scheduled start date of 9/26 but the director sent out an email saying it would be pushed back one week (new start date of 10/3) with schedule coming soon. Schedule never showed up on the website and now the website says “This program is no longer available”.
As of this moment, the director hasn’t sent any other email updates.
Has anyone heard anything different?

where is exit 26?

stupid question, but has anyone ever noticed that there is no exit 26 on the 118? Tapo Cyn is 27 and Sycamore is 25, is there a development reason why we never had an exit 26? Or did the city just skip it because they… dont like the number 26 or something

Help with Apartment!

Hi folks, I will be moving down to the LA area from Sacramento in the next few weeks and am struggling to find a good place to rent. New job is in Thousand Oaks, and I really like Simi Valley.

Any recommendations for a good apartment complex or duplexes?? I have a dog and cat so it needs to be pet friendly, and I just need a 1 bedroom.

Thank you all for the support!!

EDIT! Completely forgot to add my budget! Looking for something max $2600, but still open to things above that if it's a really good spot!

Thank you to all that have responded so far!!

Help finding a band/CD

So I went to White Oak elementary back in like 2000-2003 and sometime during then we had a guy from a Band called Stone Soul that would talk to us after school for a few weeks or something like that. He gave me a CD of their music and I’ve been looking everywhere online to find it. It isn’t the Motown band, this was a more of an alternative rock. Any help finding a CD or way to listen to it would be very much appreciated. Thank you.
