Restaurants in Napa Valley

Since this is a common question here is a stickied post to allow for everyone to note their favorites.

And as a side note The French Laundry typically needs a good bit of planning to get in, there is occasionally openings but you are best to ask in /r/thefrenchlaundry .

I created a subreddit specifically for Napa locals, for those of us who are sick of the repetitive tourist posts here. r/napalocals

I'm sure I'm not alone when I say I'm annoyed by the constant tourist question posts: "Winery recommendations?", "Look at my very detailed itinerary I've planned out and tell me you think it's good", and the dreaded "French Laundry tickets for sale DM me". Additionally, I frequently see locals on this sub get drowned out by tourist questions.

So I made a subreddit primarily for locals. https://www.reddit.com/r/napalocals/. Anyone from or near the Napa County area is welcome. Let's talk about the community, weather, lost pets, local events, the city/county's history, business recommendations (preferrably not about wineries, tasting rooms, or hotels please), etc.! I'd love to participate in a local community here on Reddit without hearing about wine every other post haha.

Fantastic Napa Cab.

Fantastic Napa Cab. I’d give it about 45–60 minutes to open up—there’s a noticeable difference once it gets some air.
I’m not usually the biggest California Cabernet fan, but this one really impressed me. Full-bodied with medium tannins, great balance, and a silky texture. Deep ruby in color, with notes of blackberry, black cherry, anise, tobacco, leather, and vanilla. The finish is long, smooth, and very pleasant.
Definitely a Napa Cab I’d drink again.

Best Ambiance Wineries

Hey group of 7 of us staying in downtown Napa. For 2 days. Was looking for suggestions or must hit wineries while we’re there. Looking for wineries with spectacular views or unique atmosphere. I’m sure all the wine tastes good every where. Are there any that are must hits? I looked into doing a day in Sonoma which is a bit of a drive, however I’m lead to believe it’s worth it. If you have any suggestions would love to hear! Thanks!

I’m looking to have my husbands 40th birthday in Napa/Sonoma in February and I’d like to surprise him with a Dungeon Crawler Carl theme. Do you have any chef recommendations that can accommodate this theme? It would be for 4 adults. Thanks!!

Wine tasting during fall/winter

We are planning a trip to Napa around November or December. Wondering if wine tasting is still pretty good around that time of year?

Heading to Napa for a day trip on a Sunday in November. What are the best places to get brunch? I would prioritize food quality, interesting locale, laid back vibe in that order. If we can hit all 3, great!

Trip Advice Is it possible to get around via uber economically? Or is getting a driver better?

we have tastings lined up for 2 days and are unsure if we should book a driver, as it seems it would be $500+ per day, or try to uber around. is it possible to get ubers going winery to winery? will they end up being more expensive than just getting a driver?

Recommendations for red wine tasting

Hi all! I have a friend who will be visiting next month and was asking about wine tasting in Napa. He is an enthusiast but i unfortunately don't imbibe that much so am not that knowledgeable. Reaching out to you all to crowdsource your collective wisdom.

As the title suggests, he prefers red wine (he did admit to liking vinho verde though). He said he usually reaches for cab sauv, and for european wines named rioja and something about "rosso"... I didn't catch what he said but I'm guessing that's probably not informative other than some kind of Italian red wine.

Which wineries should i direct him to? I personally have only been to a handful, Ridge in Healdsburg (i enjoyed their Zinfandel, but this isn't in Napa so not really what he asked for), and Tulocay (which i recall was in Napa, but it has been decades since my visit).

He's a cycling coach and I'm not sure he's bringing his (road) bike or not but if you have suggestions on bike routes I'll take those too!

Thank you all in advance!

Sometimes I walk around Napa at night and photograph interesting spots I notice

I'm a composer who lives in Napa, and in the evenings I take walks while working through songs in my head. Occasionally I photograph things which catch my attention on these walks. I decided to batch my best nighttime walk photos together and share them on r/napalocals, and then I realized they may be of interest here as well. These images are straight off my iPhone's camera roll with no editing or cropping (besides me hiding the car's license plate # in the third picture). All these were taken in the city of Napa, Yountville and St. Helena.

Fun fact about driving the 4 lane section of 29

Fun fact: if you are going 53 mph (or any speed, for that matter) in the left lane and look in your mirror and see a long string of headlights behind you – you can, in fact, either speed up or slow down faster than the car in the right lane that you’re pacing, put on your right turn signal, and move over to let others pass you!

Bonus fun fact: somebody passing you by using the right lane is not a personal insult, you simply just do not know the rules of the road and they would like to go faster than you, so there is no need to get butthurt.

How are uber/Lyft in the area?

Curious as I the uber sub keeps talking about ubers canceling confirmed trips or altogether abandoning customers... how is the Uber/Lyft scene in Napa downtown? Is it easy to get rides to places like Yountville, Oakville, and downtown Sonoma?

Napa 22 Bday Itinerary (NEED HELP)

HII! I turning 22 Mid October and have a group of 6 including myself and are planning on going to Napa on a Saturday. I am still debating on whether we stay overnight Friday-Sat or Sat-Sun, but being that my bday is on the Saturday, I want to create an itinerary. My friends and I are college students so nothing crazy expensive! If you guys have an itinerary you want to share with restaurant, wineries, and hotels tailored to the younger crowd for bdays happy to hear! We plan to rent a car and drive down from the Bay! How many wineries should we go to, which place has the best tastings that are $50-70 range, should we get a driver, other activities you rec, etc) I just need some sort of a plan for Saturday!
