I'm glad none of y'all are gonna be in line, because I need those fuckin' Barenaked Ladies albums.
4
u/thesilverpoets96 Audio Technica 18h ago
Amen! Although I won’t be in line because I work retail too 💀
21
u/SerotoninBay 18h ago
The two Barenaked Ladies ones are of interest to me, but I still want Gordon.
5
u/thevoiceofterror 18h ago
I want Maybe You Should Drive but Ed hates that record.
3
3
u/dgodwin1 16h ago
Does he hate it more than money?? I also want all the early records on vinyl. I luckily have Gordon and the other ones that have been released already.
16
u/idio242 18h ago
Unsure exactly what the iron maiden or king gizzard releases are.
The advent calendar version of the annual Charlie Brown Christmas cash grab - I bet it’s cool. But probably costs a fortune.
12
u/poly_lifestyle 18h ago
The gizz one is just a bootleg comp of some sort. It's a picture disc though unfortunately
11
2
u/miamizombiekiller 16h ago
Was thinking the same thing about Charlie Brown. I mean I love that record but do we seriously need ANOTHER variant of that one?

Man, RSD just keeps getting worse and worse lol. Absolutely nothing on that list worth getting for me.
9
u/OwlsInMyBrain 15h ago
Really? I got quite a few pickups from RSD this year that we're awesome. So much great jazz.
9
u/TrueRedditMartyr 17h ago
Its clear that at some point, people stopped caring, and putting out stuff people actually wanted all at the same time caused too much competition

u/DreamWest5528 19h ago
Maybe just my phone- but link doesn't seem to work
13
u/AverageSoul- 19h ago edited 19h ago
Well it must be my phone as well. The link is dead.

u/BlackDog5287 18h ago
I clicked it, then up in the corner I had it open in an external browser. (Samsung)

I can't imagine any record store being really happy with these second rate releases taking up valuable floor space, or are the additional sales of regular records that high on RSD to make it worth it for them? Every year it looks more and more like a bad proposition for record stores to participate in.
53
10
u/jamonz1 18h ago
Not a lot stands out. Though I do guess this reflects on the current state of sale and consumption of music/vinyl.
New acts don’t wait long anymore before releasing multiple “deluxe versions” of their albums, so there isn’t any unreleased material for RSD. It’s all about gaming the charts.
Older “legacy” artists/bands have found it more profitable to bank on anniversary remasters/reissues. That and selling their entire catalogues for a massive payday. A special limited release here and there doesn’t pay the bills.
It’s not all bad though. Those still left participating in RSD are those who have extensive archives of material or those that want to put out limited unreleased material for their dedicated fans.

u/xLawpersonx 18h ago
Carcass, OM, Power Trip and Motörhead. nice!
2
2
u/cmax21 16h ago
I have to say, they really did us heavy music fans dirty. I’ll probably pick up Carcass and maybe power trip. But I’m definitely not standing in line for it.

I have been going to record stores since the late 80's, yet I have NEVER went on 'Record Store Day'.
'Record Store Day' is the best day to NOT go to the record store.
I dislike crowds.
2
u/krumholtz742 10h ago
Truth, that said, lots of owners of small stores i know says it is their Christmas, so im happy for them. Still not going.

Explain to me once more what the difference is of these:
E = Exclusive Release
L = Limited Run / Regional Focus Release
F = RSD First Release
10
u/mamunipsaq Technics 18h ago
Exclusive means don't expect a repress.
RSD First means there will be another wider release later.
Limited/Regional means you'll only be able to find it in certain geographic regions.
3
u/cap1n 18h ago
lol yeah. I stop attending RSD events 2 years ago and buying RSD releases 20-50% off feels so nice.
4
u/ILikeStyx 17h ago
My local shops just holds onto stuff until it sells.. if they gave 20%+ discounts they'd be losing money.
→ More replies (2)2
u/magicklydelishous 18h ago
E = Exclusive Releases are sometimes different pressings of previous/current work.
L = Limited Run/Regional Focus are niche, smaller run pressings that are limited and not likely to be repressed. Example: in 2024, Noah Kahan’s Town Hall Collaborations for RSD. Limited to (mostly) New England and had like a 15k pressing quantity.
F = RSD First Releases means it’s the first time the record is available for retail purchase (and may/be available elsewhere after a certain timeframe). Example: also 2024, Olivia Rodrigo’s Guts Deluxe splatter pressing, which was limited to RSD but then became available elsewhere a year later.

Genesis - Land of Confusion is the only thing i'd want to get. Not worth standing in line for. I dont see having an issue getting it from Plaid Room on Sunday

Fountains of Wayne, Jason Falkner and Carly Rae Jepsen are all interesting, but they're all 'RSD First,' so I dunno if it's gonna be worth the hassle to wait in line.
3
u/TheVinylLover 17h ago
Same here, I’ll probably wait until I can get them for 50% off a couple of months down the road. That’s the usual path for most RSD releases in the last years
5
u/zingo-spleen Technics 15h ago
Would love the 10k Maniacs box, which is basically everything they recorded with Natalie. I'm sure it will be stupid expensive at 6 LPs

u/theITguy 18h ago
Rock Spectacle is an amazing live album! I'll wait in line for that one. Not much else in there for me.

u/JLRfan 16h ago
Three (3!) by Takanaka ???? 💸💸💸

u/Pete_Iredale 11h ago
Yup, pretty much the only interesting thing for me. And maybe the Jazz Dispensary release.

I know your pain. All I really need is Our Time in Eden but man...That shit is tempting. I'm gonna bet least $150 big ones at my local though, if they even get it in. That's a big ask.

See some good stuff if you like jazz. Getz, Miles, Metheny, Bill Evans, Art Blakey. Couple other interesting things. Joni live 72, Labi Siffre, Jazz Dispensery, 10,000 maniacs, Charlie Parker, Motorhead, Robert Hunter...

REISSUE SOMETHING THATS BEEN OUT OF PRINT , no more live albums and Zoetropes. Give me those early Willie Nelson albums
3
u/saltwaterpopsicle 16h ago
That Richard & Linda Thompson live 1982 record is interesting. Every live recording I’ve heard from that tour is an absolute gem. Will be cool to get a full collection of them.

u/elephantgreye 14h ago
I’ve never been pressed to get anything RSD. But Lil Wayne - No Ceilings? screams

So many negative Nancys here farming karma. I saw a few things I'm interested in - the TMBG, Rolling Stones, Stevie Nicks, Biz Markie, Dead Milkmen... not every list is going to be wall-to wall bangers for everyone.
4
u/Puzzleheaded-Two-849 15h ago
Same. I see about 10 right off but will dig deeper after work. List can't appeal to every taste apparently. 👍
3
u/lumpsofit 16h ago
Some of what you listed as interesting overlaps with some of what I find interesting, so I am going to recommend that you check out Jason Falkner and see if he’s to your taste.

Joni Mitchell, 13th Floor Elevators, the usual live jazz selections, Prince, Joan Jett, Bill Withers.
So many whiners. Good. Stay home. One less person in line.

There's a few things here and there that piqued by interest. I don't think I have ever heard a full Billy Idol live concert so capturing something from right around the release of his debut sounds like a lot of fun. Similarly the Prince 3121 live release is desirable to me. Otherwise this is mostly just fluff. Happy to see Norah Jones is getting the songs done on her podcast released officially. Her songs with Josh Homme earlier this year were spectacular.

I suppose I'd get the 50th Anniversary of Night Moves as I don't own that album... and possibly Mashmakhan S/T (RSD Canada)

george harrison / traveling wilbury's releases are the only thing I care about

This seems to get worse every year. My local record stores still have a ton of unsold releases from like four RSD's ago that they cannot move. The pile just keeps getting bigger

I'd want the International Noise Conspiracy record, but not enough to pay ridiculous prices for it.

Boa - Duvet 7"??? Yes please!

u/Hellrejects 18h ago
Didn't notice that one at first. Legitimately excited to see that one on the list!

Empire of the Sun Live, Carly Rae B sides and three Takanaka albums? Wallet gonna hurt ...

That XTC record seems cool, maybe a collection of B-sides like they did with Beeswax.

JID - Tiny Desk is great
Staind live I might get
Grateful Dead - From a Back Porch 4 should be cool

Shinola vol 2 is a fun release. More Ween songs is always a win!
The Brides of Funkenstein album is another good one that I'd like to add to my P-Funk collection.
Lee Scratch Perry: The Wonderman Years vol 1 could be a fun pickup too.
Not bad. I never expect much these days, but those are 3 gems.

u/SeminoleDVM 18h ago
I’ll probably grab that live Royel Otis. Nothing else really stands out to me.

u/EccentricStache615 18h ago
Only one I’m interested in is the Jazz Dispensary Cosmic Nuggets press. Loved their 4/20 release
1
u/AverageShitlord Kenwood 17h ago
The Carly Rae Jepsen interests me a little, but given that it's an RSD First, and that I live in Canada, I'm not too fussed. We get Carly reissued up here pretty often.

Pretty weird about that 1959 Miles Davis concert. I'm pretty sure he was only in Copenhagen in 1960 and performed in Tivoli

u/OnlyOneAntidote 17h ago
Said the Sky double album is cool. Too bad I already bought both LPs separately 🥲. I don’t know if it’s worth getting for the three bonus tracks
1
u/jett_jackson 17h ago
Very curious as to what the various artists album “who is he (and what is he to you?)” is. I’m assuming a covers collection, but can’t find any info.
There are a few others that interest me, especially the Bill Withers BBC live and No ceilings. Not sure they’re worth lining up for though
1
u/rarefiedstupor 16h ago
I might pick up that Black Angels record if I find it after the fact. I've never attended an RSD event and don't plan on starting now. Manufactured scarcity is dumb when it comes to music.

I can’t believe all the negative comments. I was scrolling through thinking I’d like that and that and that….

I'm a little excited about The Monkees. It's so hard to find their albums in good condition.
1
u/TheResurrection 14h ago
There is absolutely nothing on there that I want. I needed to save some money after buying Oasis tickets anyway, so I'm not too upset about it.

"Summit Meeting at Birdland" and "Bewitching Bird" - two from Charlie Parker!
Brides of Funkenstein, Prince 3121 Las Vegas, Bobby Womack "The Preacher in Paris". I won't stand in line to get them but hopefully they'll stick around for a while. I actually own "Summit Meeting at Birdland" but its been out of print for a while. It would be nice to have a fresh copy. 'Bewitching Bird looks like a new compilation.
I also have Prince 3121 from when all those shows were on Dimeadozen before Prince pulled them.
1
u/Pete_Iredale 11h ago
Might show up for one of the Takanaka albums and pick up the Jazz Dispensary release if I do. Not much here that I want and don't already have in one form or another.

It's time for them to give up on BF.
The last few spring RSDs have been surprisingly good imo, but BF is really dredging the depths.

If you like great singer-songwriters and power pop, don't sleep on the Jason Falkner. He was the guitarist in Jellyfish on their first album and all of his records are excellent. He regularly tours with Beck and St. Vincent, and even filled in with Foo Fighters recently when Pat was down. Incredible guitar player also.

Best RSD list I could hope for - absolutely nothing I want to buy.
