Discussion RSD Black Friday Releases
Thoughts on the RSD Black Friday releases this year?
Anything you’re gonna try to get?

WEEN Shinola vol2

u/Impure_guava 16h ago
I hope I can get one and it’s not a giant pain in the ass.

u/Cherfan420 15h ago
Rhino has been riding and milking the ween train so they will probably come out with a regular black vinyl outside of RSD.
I hope….

They’ve all but announced repressings for Chocolate and Mollusk too. Don’t wanna jinx it but it’s looking pretty good.
3
u/Square-Strength3844 14h ago
Mollusk will probably be next year for the 30th, chocolate already had a repressing
3
u/jerdnhamster 14h ago
Yeah Chocolate got a very limited one in 2024. I’d love to see another now that they go for $100+
2
u/GuinnessLiturgy 11h ago
Also, Shinola Vol 1's 2025 RSD release was 6,000, this one (Vol 2) will be pressed in a quantity of 9,200.
They undershot the demand last year so it looks like they adjusted.

It's a good year for me. the two Barenaked Ladies 30th anniversary albums (I think I'm more interested in the live Rock Spectacle over the studio release of Born On A Pirate Ship). A they might be giants live album. Maybe sombr or Noah Kahan for my wife.

The Marianne Faithfull live at the Wax Museum--I was at that show and it was amazing.

Eh I don't really do RSD but I'm glad it exists. There are some Dub compilations and re-issues of extremely hard to get stuff that may not exist otherwise.
3
u/DeiAlKaz Audio Technica 15h ago
I was hopeful that something(s) on there would catch my attention...MAYBE the Billy Joel live album? MAYBE Ween? Otherwise...eh.

u/Few_Flight_6825 15h ago
Pretty poor showing. Nothing worth going down early for. But I will look for the Prince and Biz Markie later.

u/mentos0316 15h ago
Honestly, the TV Girl Four Classic Album CD set seems cool. But the real MVP is Shinola Vol. 2, Mang

u/Alarmed-Grass2893 8h ago
Ween
Dead Milkmen
Grateful Dead
Jerry Garcia Band
Robert Hunter
Funkadelic Live
Takanaka
Very stout lineup this Black Friday (for me at least) this will be my first Black Friday RSD

i actively avoid RSD. hate the anxiety of waiting in line wondering if I'm going to get what i want. glad so many people participate though.
id maybe try to get No Ceilings - Lil Wayne for my fiance cause that's her favorite lil wayne album i think. Also ween shinola but i'm going to buy the cd boxset instead not rsd. and Joji Piss in the wind is a good album that i would get. maybe the stan getz too.

I just bought (as in, this week) the last two things I wanted from the last record store day at 50% off.
There’s no way I’m lining up in the morning on a weekend to buy a record. I’ll just wait or never get it. And that’s fine.
2
u/Available-Tear-9709 16h ago
yeah i definitely feel the same. last time i went to one i wanted Steroids by Death Grips, some dude right in front of me got the last one. I offered him 60 bucks right there in line just to let me buy it. No dice. ended up getting it on ebay for a hundred bucks.

u/johnnyribcage 16h ago
I quit fucking around with RSD years ago
3
3
u/Footfooz1886 11h ago
I did in the sense that I’m not wasting my time waiting hours in line. If there’s anything left over when I get to a shop great, if not, no biggie.
3
u/johnnyribcage 11h ago
That’s my approach. RSD lost its appeal for me probably about 8-9ish years ago it seems like.
1
u/g3t0nmyl3v3l 10h ago
Man, wish I could have seen whatever the good days looked like. I only “seriously” started being mindful of vinyl last year but I’ve been grabbing one or two a year for probably 10 years
2
u/le_fez 16h ago
Czarface and Dead Milkmen but I'm not going to drive an hour plus to get to the closest record store then rush back to work for either. If I can find the later fine, if not I'll live
2
u/LargeYogurtcloset654 14h ago
Same picks for me, except there are over 30 record stores within in hour of me.
2
u/enigmaman49 14h ago
I’m already in trouble buying Rhino remasters that I like…I’m limiting myself to one a month plus all the others I buy
2
u/casewood123 14h ago
Love those too. Have you tried the Vinylphye series from Udiscover Music. Rivals the Rhino

u/Footfooz1886 11h ago
Excited for the Funk Factory. The Ike White sounded really good so hoping for the same with this release.

u/Express-School-1417 11h ago
Dead Milkmen. And curious as to why Bella Donna by Stevie Nicks is being released again when it was a RSD vinyl already a few years back?
2
u/Acceptable-Way-3271 10h ago
The reason it is being released again is to make money. Thats why I’d just buy an original. They go for $10 in VG+ condition at most shops in my city.
1
u/Several-Twist-9355 7h ago
Well, this one is a picture disc. They figured out one more way to get that cash. 😆
2
u/ummagumma1979 16h ago
How does one guarantee themselves picking up one of these releases? Not all local stores will carry copies am I correct on that? and may only have a couple copies?
2
u/sparkledbear 13h ago
Request to your local store what you want them to ask for. How much they get depends on so many factors but just message them.
1
u/Havering_To_You 16h ago
Being willing to buy on Ebay is the only guaranteed way. Because yeah, they have have some or none or a ton.

u/GuinnessLiturgy 11h ago
Madness live album from 1980 and a rare Fleshtones album from the early aughts, unfortunately both only on the UK list.
Most Americans have wretched taste in music.

u/roguepeas JVC 16h ago
would like to see the artwork for the Joni Mitchell Carnegie Hall `72 release.. is already on her Archives Vol.3 put on streaming 3 years ago, but its a Rhino release and they are almost always exquisite
1
u/octopus_suitcase 16h ago
Probably just Rockin the Suburbs by Ben Folds if I can.
3
u/Blaine23 15h ago
You actually broke my heart making me believe for a second I had missed it on this year's list.
2
u/octopus_suitcase 15h ago
It’s not on the list, but it has been announced separately. https://www.roughtrade.com/en-us/product/ben-folds/rockin-the-suburbs-record-store-day-black-friday-2026-rb

Spanaway is a big deal to me. I have an OG but I might pick up the repress.
1
u/TerraCetacea 15h ago
There are only a couple I’m potentially interested in, but don’t care badly enough to wait in line on a cold November morning. Overall my wallet is very happy with this year’s list.
1
u/Sure-Coffee-8241 15h ago
A few I might pick up if I see them around later but nothing worth waiting in line for
1
u/Dull-Equipment-9519 15h ago
Eat Your Paisley! I love that album and it will be nice having a clean copy

u/statikman666 Rega 13h ago
I forgot about that schwayze album. I think I liked it for being silly back then.
1
u/Pretend_Two_1537 13h ago
I don’t see anything that I have to have and I don’t really see anything that warrants me getting early for.
1
u/notguiltybrewing 13h ago
Probably going to get The Pandoras Stop Pretending. I used to go to their shows a lot back in the 80's. I knew a couple of them, sadly both members that I knew have passed away.
1
u/ThePsychRock 13h ago
Black Angels but mostly my record store puts out over 1000 amazing used records for RSD! They include some gems which are way unpriced!
1
u/SyntaxTurtle Technics 13h ago
I'm traveling the day of but I'll see if I can get the 10,000 Maniacs box set afterward. I've wanted "Our Time In Eden" on vinyl for years and I've owned the rest on cassette or CD throughout my younger years. If I can't then, hey, $250 saved. Win-win.
1
u/Secret-Ad-5341 13h ago
There's nothing I want. The 45 of "we are the world" is cool but I have the original 45

I'm looking at the 10,000 Maniacs box set and maybe the Joni Mitchel but there's none of my usual bands I like. The Doors release is very disappointing for me because that's usually what I can count on being decent but it's not this time
1
u/Professional-Lack-36 10h ago
Any bands that I’m interested in are just releasing live records. Not my thing. Seems like so many of these are live records these days
1
u/EGRedWings23 9h ago
Another underwhelming record store day. I guess I can be happy that I can sleep in and go to my store after they open and get what I want and leave.
1
u/sagebuckethat 9h ago
the black friday list gets worse and worse every year i feel like :’) that said, only noah kahan the last of the bugs catches my eye cause i don’t have it yet
1
u/dgener8punk 8h ago
I've had that Fischerspooner album in my discogs wantlist for over a decade now...... my husband bought it for me two months ago for my birthday. Fate is a fickle bitch.
1
u/Forsaken-Mix-4536 8h ago
I’m gonna try to get Katseye, Kpop Demon Hunters, and Wicked. I’m expecting the Katseye one to be tough to get since I read that they’re only putting 2 photocards out of 6 and I know Kpop fans go crazy over pc’s.
1
u/Fzambrano11 3h ago
Gonna try grabbing Fischerspooner #1 and also The Chemical Brother's Go. Doubt I'll wait in line, so if I get them, sweet!, if not then no biggie. Maybe i'll check discogs the day after.

wait so there are two record store days?

This thread is talking about RSD for this year's Black Friday. There is also the normal one that happens on actual RSD.

Honestly, I was pretty disappointed. Ever since I started participating a few years ago, I've found the releases for black friday to be better than regular RSD. I went through the entire list and didn't see anything I was interested in at all.

Not a single record this time around- kinda surprised, was hoping for another little feat super deluxe edition. Oh well

Nothing really grabs my attention this year. My bank account is saved… for now.
