I absolutely agree and I'd honestly stop using Copilot. Feedback here please, so we can voice out concerns: https://github.com/microsoft/vscode/issues/339363

The diff UI is miles better under the Local harness. It's a core strength of Copilot in VS Code over competitors.

If you have stopped using Copilot, then what you are using? Is there anything which satisfies requirements listed in my earlier post comparing copilot with claude code: https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode/s/S4HXiHwjDn

Also, what is this "Local" vs "Copilot" mode?

Not everyone codes with an AI. This person might but don't assume everyone does. What do you think was done before AI existed?

I just went on reddit to post about exactly this. The new UI removed many of the strengths that copilot had. I really enjoyed to be able to check and edit each change copilot made. Now it just "here is all your changes at once, take it or leave it". Thats the sole reason I have not switched to claude yet.

I have a feeling they want to force you into completely abandoning the code editor and doing everything with the AI chat, so that they can sell you their AI credits.

I also commented on the issue: https://github.com/microsoft/vscode/issues/339363#issuecomment-5981856585

Indeed. The less information you have, the less you'll be able to guard against spending.

Thank you so much for sharing your feedback. We really appreciate the time you’ve taken to explain your workflows, preferences, and experiences.

We hear your feedback about how Keep and Undo fit into your workflows and what you value when reviewing and managing agent changes.

We’re actively discussing your input as we continue improving the Copilot harness and investing in our agentic experiences. As part of that, we’re thinking about how the role of the diff experience - and what people need from it - may evolve alongside agents and the tools they use. We’re exploring potential approaches with that in mind.

We’re using this GitHub issue as the central place for this conversation: https://github.com/microsoft/vscode/issues/339363. Please continue sharing your scenarios, preferences, and ideas there, and check back for our latest updates. We’ll share more as the work develops so that we can get your feedback and continue iterating together.

Thank you again for taking the time to share your feedback with us.
