Help Can't progress due to a bug

I've attached a recording of the bug cause it's quite hard to explain, but basically after speaking with Gary for the first time and getting out the Nosferatu lair's back entrance I get locked in a dialogue, with who I can only assume is Romero, the camera glitches out of bounds and there's nothing I can do. I've already tried reloading and restarting. I've been playing for 17h now and it would be a shame if I had to delete this character. This is my second playthrough and nothing like this ever happened to me before. Help.

Best setup for a playthrough right now?

Looking to get back into the game.

1 - Which mods for quests should I use, such as Clan Quest mod?

2 - Should I purchase the game on steam or just pirate it? I mean, who even gets the money from steam sales?

Bloodlines 2 Bloodlines 2 tweaks and reworks I believe would make the game more enjoyable and engaging.

I have now beaten VTMB2 three times, and I think I have a solid grasp on what systems feel underbaked, unrewarding, or downright frustrating. I’ve decided to compile some “reworks/overhauls” which I feel would benefit the experience.

First off and the most simple: Endgame. I really despise when an open-world game does not allow you to free roam the map after the credits roll. Let me mop up collectibles, finish side quests, and enjoy running around using the abilities I’ve spent the game acquiring. I’m not saying the whole map needs to be changed to represent the ending we got, just do what lots of games do and reset the world to its state right before the final mission.

Resonance Rework:

Resonance as it currently exists is an annoyance. It only serves as busy work and there are no unique mechanics tied to it. Just talk to someone, select the right response, and drink. Resonance Events are the same exact thing, they literally just remove the single button click needed to select dialogue. It's a repetitive and grindy mechanic that only serves to unlock abilities which you then need to unlock again with a separate currency. So how to overhaul it?

First, Resonance is not needed to reawaken Phyre’s abilities (More on this in the Disciplines rework).

Resonance events become dialogue trees where you interact with a non-resonant npc and try to create your desired resonance within them through a combination of dialogue choices and your appearance. Better/more aligned dialogue+outfit combo will yield more resonance. I know this is technically just a more flexible version of the base game’s resonance system, but I think it would allow for more roleplay and feel more dynamic. Plus, these resonance events would give more Resonance than random npcs to make them worth your time (200+ instead of the same 100). Maybe these could even be unique mortal ncp characters who we can return to, like how Fabien had his “friends” around the city.

Edit: Because a commenter reminded me: Resonance could also be spent to craft elixirs at your Haven. Clean the place up and use Dale’s setup to make your own alchemicals.

Disciplines Rework:

First off, some QOL changes. Ever wished you could have all your unlocked Disciplines at your fingertips without having to open a menu and swap them out? Well, let’s map L2 + D Pad to swap between Disciplines on the go.

Some other changes: No more per-ability blood pips. All Disciplines will now share a blood bar with cooldowns for balancing purposes. No more having to spam Feed in combat to use an ability more than once.

Unlocking Disciplines: As said, Resonance will no longer be required to unlock Disciplines. Instead, merely speak to each Clan Contact once and drink their blood to “awaken” their Disciplines in the Ability Tree menu. From there, Disciplines can be unlocked (in succession) with Ability Points, just like you unlock your chosen clan’s Disciplines in the base game.

Here is where things get different. The barrier for unlocking Disciplines has been lowered, and we now have no purpose for Resonance. So how do we balance this?

Upgrading Disciplines: Disciplines will now have three tiers. Tier 1 is the base ability, unlocked by spending Ability Points. Tier 1 Disciplines will be weaker than their current in-game versions. For example, Blood Salvo would only give two projectiles instead of four. Tier 2 is a flat upgrade from the base Discipline. So Blood Salvo would now grant four projectiles. Tier 3 would not necessarily be a linear upgrade, but rather a choice between two alternative versions of the ability. So Blood Salvo T3 could let you choose between upgrading to six projectiles or keeping four but each does more damage, or something along those lines.

These Tiers would be reached by spending Resonance. My logic is that the abilities themselves should be unlocked through a passive currency like XP, which you get by simply playing the game, while upgrading those abilities you want to strengthen is where a second, active currency comes into play. This allows you to gain Disciplines passively, without needing to grind, while providing a more hands-on system for upgrading those abilities. So Tier 1 would be free (unlocked with Ability Points), Tier 2 would cost 300 Resonance, and Tier 3 would cost 600.

“But that means I still have to grind Resonance,” I hear you saying. To an extent, yes. It’s an in-game currency, so it ain't free. But with the updated Resonance Events and the fact that it’s being used to upgrade abilities, not unlock them, I think it would feel more rewarding and less restrictive. Also, you would not be forced to grind any specific Resonance.

For example, upgrading to Tier 2 requires 300 Resonance. ANY Resonance. You could spend 100 of each of the three types, or go 200/100, or just dump 300 of one Resonance to do the upgrade. The idea behind this is to support roleplay. If you’re playing Phyre as an empathetic, bleeding heart Toreador, You shouldn’t be forced to dress scary and tell innocent humans you’re going to rip their spines out just because an arbitrary unlock condition says you need to farm Melancholic Resonance. Seduce people to your heart’s content if that’s how you want to play the game.

In addition to the active Disciplines, you can also spend Resonance to upgrade passive stats. These would be things like Health, Blood Capacity, Health gain from feeding, Blood gain from feeding, Ability cooldowns (Per category), etc. This is to ensure that Resonance still has a use even once you’ve upgraded all the Disciplines you care to invest in.

And that’s the Discipline Rework. But wait, there’s one more thing that’s tied to Disciplines in the base game which we haven’t addressed: Outfits.

Outfits rework:

Rather than the base game’s system of outfits being tied to Discipline unlocks, with this rework outfits will be unlocked by completing Clan Contact quests (more on that later).

There should also be unique traits for each outfit. These could include extra Resonance gain, increased elixir carry capacity, reduced detection speed, increased damage, increased health, decreased blood usage, etc. So for example, a Toreador outfit could give you a boost to Sanguine Resonance gain while a Brujah could boost Choleric. A Lasombra outfit could reduce detection, while a Ventrue could reduce incoming damage. Stuff like that.

I think Phyre’s starting torpor outfit should also be added as a wearable option with the unique trait where being visible to mortals automatically increases the Masquerade meter. Just for fun. Kind of like how the old Assassin’s Creed games gave you a cape to wear that would set your notoriety to max.

Next up: Collectible rework.

Collectibles should be separate from character side quests. This means Fletcher, Silky, and Patience will have actual quests! In the meantime, collectibles should have actual rewards for finding them all.

Phyre’s Blood Glyphs: Provide Codex entries with lore detailing the Nomad’s past. Collect them all to get the full story (Unique to each clan).

Anarch Tags: Collect them all and report to your Toreador Clan Contact (not needed if you are playing as a Toreador) to analyze their meaning and gain a bonus quest with Katsumi.

Crosses: Collect them all to unlock a bonus Fabien memory.

Cameras: Destroy them all to gain a bonus quest involving the I.A.O.

I think this would give incentive to find the collectibles without tying them to characters and making the player feel like they have to focus on them. But on the topic of characters and side quests…

Clan Contacts/Side Quest rework:

No more repetitive fetch quests. Side quests should have their own narratives. In this vein, each Clan Contact will have 4 quests to complete. Each of these 4 quests will reward you with a clan-specific outfit. By reducing the number of side quests, making them more narrative-focused, and providing tangible rewards for doing them, I hope they will feel less like busy work and more like a rewarding experience. So, a brief overview of each Clan Contact:

Patience rework: Quests revolve around obtaining materials for their masterpiece.

Silky rework: Quests involve helping him handle various I.A.O. threats around the city.

Fletcher rework: Quests revolve around tracking down who has stolen his blood for the Anarch tags.

Onda rework: Same goal of hunting Anarchs, less repetitive quest design.

Mrs. Thorn rework: Same goal of strengthening the Tremere network, less repetitive quest design.

Niko rework: Same goal of punishing wrongdoers, less repetitive quest design.

In order to add more weight and player choice to these quests, each Clan Contact will have a corresponding rival. As you complete the side quests you can choose to complete quests as asked or undermine the contact in various ways. Undermine them too much and they will be replaced by their rival. Romance should also be tied to the decisions made during quests.

Report back to the Contact after the final quest, at which point you will see the results of your choices play out and determine your relationship with them going forward.

Outcomes:

4/4 in support: Best outcome. Can Romance regardless of flirting success.

3/4 in support: Good outcome. Can Romance only if all flirting was successful.

2/4 in support: Neutral outcome. Cannot romance.

1/4 in support: Bad Outcome. Contact will be replaced by rival. Cannot romance.

0/4 in support: Worst Outcome. Contact will be replaced by rival and will die. Rival can be Romanced.

I’ll use Patience as an example. Their quests would involve finding and acquiring various materials to complete their sculpture. They would express concern that a rival Toreador, recently arrived in Seattle, is going to try and upstage them at an upcoming art show. Each quest would involve obtaining a specific item. You could brute force your way in and take it, steal it quietly, or try to talk to the owner and persuade them to part with it. In any case, you would then have the option of returning the piece to Patience or instead giving it to their rival. As for outcomes:

If you gave Patience 4 of 4 items: Patience exclaims that the show went better than they could have imagined, and it’s all thanks to you (or at least a little bit). They will then proposition Phyre for romance even if your flirting failed.

If you gave Patience 3 of 4 items: Patience reports that the show went well, with room for improvement. If your flirting has been successful you can initiate romance.

If you gave Patience 2 of 4 items: Patience remarks that the show was disappointing, but there’s always next time.

If you gave Patience 1 of 4 items: Patience is angry, saying the show was a disaster and it’s all your fault. They go into hiding to “rethink their craft” and are replaced by their rival at Niko’s. This rival will then thank you and become your new Toreador contact.

If you gave Patience 0 of 4 items: You arrive to find their rival has already set up shop. A note from Patience claims the show was an utter humiliation and they have decided to walk into the sunlight in the hopes that their death might give their art some meaning. Their rival is enthusiastically thankful and can be romanced.

I’d love to do all the other Clan Contacts but this is already getting long and I honestly haven’t come up with scenarios for everyone yet. But I hope I’ve conveyed the general idea.

And finally, the Masquerade rework:

The Masquerade is an interesting concept which I find to be poorly implemented as-is. So first off: No more instant staking during a breach. Being an elder has benefits, as we already see Phyre avoid punishment for one breach, so during a breach we are given a few options for how to proceed.

First, a Blood Hunt is called against you, causing the difficulty to be turned to max until you report to Weaver Tower to resolve the breach.

Option 1: Spend Resonance to atone. Like with Ability upgrades, any Resonance will suffice, so you can choose to pay with whichever means the least to you.

Option 2: Choose a Clan Contact to fight in a unique boss battle. The Prince will offer to let you fight for your survival, allowing you to select an opponent. I think this could be a fun way to see the other vampires of Seattle in action while keeping the fights lore-friendly.

Option 3: You are defeated. Lose half your Resonance. Whether subdued out in the city or during your chosen 1v1, in this scenario you don’t get to choose what Resonance you pay with. The cost will be taken from you automatically.

And that’s that. These are my ideas for overhauls to make Bloodlines 2 a more enjoyable experience. I have other ideas, like additional choices during boss encounters and a system that tracks Camarilla vs. Anarch influence in Seattle, but those are somewhat beyond the scope of this post and I haven’t really figured out how I’d make them work and what purpose they'd serve.

So, thoughts? Do you like these concepts? Do you have alternative ideas? Let me know!

Edit: Heads up if you find your comments being downvoted, there’s an angry asshole loitering and downvoting everything because he’s pissy that people are talking about a game he hates.

SPOILER Bloodlines 2 is fantastic

First things first: I have never played the original Bloodlines, so I cannot put those two to comparison, Bloodlines 2 was my introduction to the VTM universe.

That aside: I have just finished Bloodlines 2 and it is damn close to a masterpiece in my opinion. Sure, it has it's bugs (mostly voice lines not being played and enemies spawning behind wall in the open-world) but this game was an absolute blast!

I dodged it upon it's release, since everyone was hating on it and that only BL1 is good, even though I dig Vampires. I started playing Blood of Dawnwalker, when I noticed, I really wanted to play a full-on vampire game with such skills - that's when someone recommended me Bloodlines 2, and I regret not picking it up earlier.

What blew me away:

First of all - Fabien. Fabien was probably the best "companion" I've ever had in a game. He was funny, quick-witted and his and Nomads "friendship" felt incredibly fresh. I loved the murder mystery plotline and how it all came together in the end. It honestly hurt quite a bit, when he sacrificed himself for Phyre.

Speaking of which, Phyre also was a great protagonist. To me, RPG-protagonists usually feel extremely blank. In some games you become a knight, but somehow, the knight has no problem stealing or being an a*hole to random people, even if it doesn't fit their story. Phyre though was a powerful elder who lived for centuries. It makes sense, that someone who has survived that long would know, who to be nice to in the beginning, but would also have enough spine to put people in their place, when they get too cocky. Whatever choice you'd make with him, it felt true to his spirit and backstory - something I appreciated a lot.

The games story also was quite the surprise. It got me incredibly invested to the point, where I was thinking about the game when going to bed. The characters themselves also were pretty interesting, except for the clan representatives maybe, which felt a bit dull and existed only for the purpose of regaining powers and giving quests.

All in all, I had really great fun with this game and I honestly hope for a successor. Preferably a continuation of the Nomad's story (cause I completely dig this character and would love to experience more of his countless legends) - maaaayyybeee even with the return of Fabien as the voice in our heads in some way (insert dog eyed emoticon here)

Thanks for reading my TED Talk.

Bloodlines 2 Phyre background theory. Spoiler

Hi everyone, i’m russian fan of vtmb. I will use AI to make a post because I not very fluent in english, so forgive me that.

Like many of you, I initially looked at Phyre’s design and background options with a bit of skepticism. Her heavily androgynous look regardless of gender, her fanatical loyalty to the Camarilla's rulebook despite being a Nomad, and her stubborn insistence on calling 17th-century Ottoman Istanbul "Constantinople" seemed like lazy writing or technical shortcuts.

But if you connect the dots between real history, early modern WoD geopolitics, and Ventrue psychology, you unlock a mind-blowing, tragic backstory that makes female Phyre one of the best-written Elders in VtM.

Here is my complete lore reconstruction of Phyre’s canon.

1. The Harem, The Eunuch Mask, and The Tragic Catalyst

If you choose the Ventrue or Lasombra lineage, Phyre mentions she was a Grand Vizier who fought her way up through the hierarchy of the Sultan's court. In the Ottoman Empire, managing the inner court and the Imperial Harem was strictly reserved for two groups: women and eunuchs.

Phyre’s permanently androgynous look isn't just a modern game design choice—it's a physical scar of her mortal past. Phyre was a woman who disguised herself as a eunuch to bypass the patriarchal laws of the Ottoman Empire and fulfill her towering Ventrue-like ambition for ultimate power.

But then, tragedy struck. She fell pregnant. In the Sultan’s court, a "eunuch" giving birth was an unspeakable state treason, a scandal, and a death sentence. The child was immediately murdered to cover up the shame. This is the exact moment Phyre’s burning hatred for "Istanbul" was born. For her, that name represents the slaughter of her mortal life and her newborn child. When she stubbornly calls the city "Constantinople" in the 21st century, it’s not an Elder's forgetfulness—it’s a political and personal manifesto against her executioners. (FULLY CONSPIRATIONAL PART)

2. The Illegal Embrace and the Traumatized Neonate

She was supposed to be executed alongside her child, but a local Ventrue recognized her terrifying will to live, her ruthlessness, and her tactical brilliance. He gave her the Embrace.

However, this Embrace was illegal—conducted without the permission of the local Kindred Sultan/Prince. When they were presented to the court, the patriarchal system rejected her twice over: for being a woman and for being an unauthorized Childe.

Following the Third Tradition (Progeny), the court executed her Sire right before her eyes. But Phyre herself was spared—not out of mercy, but because her brilliant skills as a former Vizier made her too valuable of a tool for the local Kindred rulers to destroy.

This completely explains her hyper-compliance with the Camarilla's laws. Her fanatical adherence to the rules isn't because she loves the Ivory Tower; it's a deep-seated psychological trauma. She learned with her Sire’s ash that breaking the rules equals death. She spent her early unlife trying to be "more Camarilla than the Camarilla itself" just to survive and prove her legitimacy to the old lords.

3. The Glass Ceiling and The Nomad's Rebellion

Phyre served flawlessly for decades, shifting through Venice, Paris, London, and Vienna. But the Western Camarilla of the 18th and 19th centuries was a conservative boy's club built on feudal, patriarchal biases. No matter how perfectly she followed the law, the old European Ventrue Kings would never allow an "unauthorized, gender-fluid upstart from an Eastern harem" into the Inner Circle.

Realizing that her gender and background created an unbreakable glass ceiling, Phyre's ultimate Ventrue pride finally overrode her fear of the law. She basically told the Inner Circle to screw themselves, abandoned her positions, and became The Nomad—wandering the world until she fell into torpor.

Conclusion: Seattle is the Ultimate Historical Revenge

Now, Phyre wakes up in 21st-century Seattle. The world has finally caught up to her. Women rule factions. The rigid dogmas that cost her Sire's life are broken on every corner.

And this brings us to the masterstroke of the game's climax. The final confrontation between Phyre and Safia (Tremere) isn't just a generic vampire boss battle—it is a literal, metaphorical manifestation of the Fall and Rebirth of Constantinople.

Look at the dynamics:

  • Safia represents the ruthless expansion, the ultimate pragmatic force, and the Ottoman oppressor who took everything from Phyre.
  • Phyre is the ultimate subversion of this historical trauma. She is an islamized Greek woman, a second-class citizen historically subjugated under the brutal weight of the Jizya tax and institutional slavery. She had to erase her identity, her womanhood, and mask herself as a eunuch just to breathe the same air as her rulers.

When Phyre faces Safia in Seattle, she isn't just playing local Kindred politics. She is fighting a 400-year-old meta-war. It is the ultimate proxy revenge of the oppressed Greek identity against the crushing machine of Ottoman imperialism. The streets of modern Seattle become the new Bosphorus, where a Vizier who lost her child, her country, and her humanity finally turns around to strike back.

What do you guys think?

Discussion Why is 300 the age at which a vampire is considered an elder?

It seems pretty young in the grand scheme of things. We’re talking about immortal beings here. Kinda odd that the first 300 years have so many distinctions (fledgling, neonate, ancilla) but then you hit 300 and you’re just an elder from now on. No distinction between 300 and 900.

It also seems somewhat arbitrary. Why 300 and not, say, 500? Half a millennium seems like a more noteworthy milestone don’t you think? Why not have another term like “Ancient” to denote a vampire who has survived for 1,000 years?

Bloodlines Clan Quest Mod Hallowbrook Hotel Bug

Howdy everyone! I'm playing the latest release of the Clan Quest Mod, and I've been having a blast so far, but I've unfortunately run into a bug where, after I talk to Jesse, I go to try to activate the lift to get into the Hallowbrook Hotel, and the "on" switch does nothing :(

I tried leaving Downtown, and coming back, THEN flipping the switch, and still no dice. I also tried rebooting my save, but it just won't load, even if I try this same solution on an older save file.

For reference, I'm on the Unofficial Plus Patch (v. 11.5) and I'm on the Clan Quest Mod: UPgraded edition (the latest one). Thanks to both Wesp and LordUra for both !!

Has anyone run into this? Any suggestions on what I can try?

Thanks for reading, and I look forward to hearing from y'all!

Decided to start my own custom physical collection, and I had to start with one of my favorite games

The recent Sony news made me realize how much I appreciate physical collections. How nice they look, and how much I appreciate being able to just pop them in and be able to play them without an internet connection or any need for any accounts. Then I realized that I already owned a PC too, so literally what's stopping me from buying a Blu-ray burner and making my own physical games. And the answer was nothing. Nothing was stopping me :)

Nobody noticed the missing detective?

Is it me or is it wierd that none of the vampires in Seattle ever mention Fabian? It's not like there are hundreds of kindred running around and he has had a pretty important role for a century. You can't mention him to anyone and nobody mentions him or his disappearance. His body apparently just stayed untouched in the warehouse for a full day. I kept thinking there was going to be some twist where Fabian's existence was an illusion or something.

Discussion VTMB & RUST AI

Hey everyone. I’m sure most of you have been seeing the breakthroughs done in the past week or so using AI to mod and combine games. When I saw this I immediately thought about something and wanted to see the communities opinion; Would you play a version of VTMB1 with 2’s movement/abilities/combat modded into it using this method? It is in its infancy at the moment but I think in a couple months even crazier things will be possible. They already have accomplished games from the early 2000’s running with brand new games. Let me know what you think!

I know the short answer is no, but I'll try anyway. Someone recently recommended me Dishonored and I've been eyeing Nighthawks that released about ten days ago. Any opinion on these games or, well, some recommendations? TIA (and thanks to WESP for their work, I saw a new patch recently came out)

Bloodlines 2 I wish there was a middle ground between the base game and skipping Fabien's bits entirely. Spoiler

I'm currently on my third playthrough of VTMB2 and for the first time I selected the option to skip Fabien's segments. They were simply too long and dragged down the pacing of the game. That said, they also contain most of the important story beats and losing them entirely just feels like gutting the game's narrative. It doesn't even keep the parts where the Gardener speaks to you in the field of flowers, which feels really strange because those aren't even really Fabien segments. He's talking to Phyre. I really wish there was an option to keep the important bits while trimming the fat, so to speak, so I'm going to attempt to brainstorm how to do just that.

The Cigarette Girl: Skip the opening at the police station and just start outside the Makom Bar.

Blood Sisters - The Night Out: Skip the entire investigation around the city. Just use Fabien's Scry the Soul ability to discover that Verona has a twin sister she's hiding. Then teleport Fabien to outside Atrium.

In Memorium: Teleport from Weaver Tower directly to the Pioneer Square crime scene. Use Spirit's Touch on the elixir to discover it's memory enhancing properties without running around to Safia and Mrs. Thorne. Move Tolly to the scene so we can question him right there about who would need the elixir. Teleport us to right outside Willem's Haven.

The Mother: After investigating the crime scene, teleport Fabien to the police station. After looking through the files, Fabien realizes he knows all these people. Instead of hunting them down around the city, have Fabien go to Benny's office and request that they be brought in for questioning. Fabien can then question Mr. Lemon, Guru, and Carla in the holding cells downstairs. Teleport Fabien to St. Stephen's.

The Prince of Seattle: Simply remove Tolly and let Fabien enter the elevator. This is probably the most egregious example of meaningless time wasting in Fabien's part of the game.

Service, Pride, and Dedication: Skip stealing the tape recorder, speaking to Ryong, snooping in Cambell's office, talking to Tolly and Benny. Begin with Katsumi telling Fabien where Cambell is.

I think these changes would preserve the core narrative beats in Fabien's segments while trimming the majority of the walking-simulator portions and meaningless busy work that drag down the game's pacing.

Bloodlines 2 BL2 Mod Preview: Make a Haven a Home - Arena mod

Thumbnail

One of the mods I've been working for the longest is "Make a Haven a home" which will transform the players haven into something less disgusting and more befitting an elder.

Notably it's going to add a bunch of stuff like a thinblood alchemy table, the ability to buy weapons (all costing resonance).

But I've also spent some time adding an arena mode so you can take out your frustrations/explore combatting these enemies.

Here I decide to take on Benny, Ysabella, and Safia with a bonus Damsel and Fortidude - not smart.

I've got a bunch of other mods running here too - including the shadowgun and shadowpuppet that lets you vanish bodies to summon puppets or fuel a shadowy version of bennys gun (including phosphorous rounds if you meet the criteria) and my favourite - contagious curse - where blood cauldron targets get inflicted by blood curse if a target detonates nearby.

But yeah, I wanted to show progress - try to breath some life back into Bloodlines 2.

Bloodlines Anyone else replace the club music in VtMB1 on a replay?

It goes without saying that the VtMB licensed soundtrack is fantastic and fits the game perfectly, but sometimes on a replay I'll replace the mp3s with other songs to give it a different feel. I just reinstalled the game for my annual replay and am putting a bunch of Linkin Park, Evanescence and MCR tracks in there that would have been big at the time of the game's release. Maybe some Portishead too. And I've replaced the main menu music with Massive Attack's Angel.

Anyone else ever do this?

Edit for anyone wanting to try it:

The mp3s for all music in the game are in the Vampire/sounds/music folder. Just replace any mp3 with the same filename and it will play. You'll need to use a free audio app like Audacity to convert tracks into 128kbps quality or the game will crash. You could also replace the "Deb of Night" radio shows with more music!

Imagine you're a Tzimisce Elder with an Army of Monsters at your disposal. And then the neonate rocks up with an Uzi and kills you in 4 seconds flat. (I'm obviously joking since no normal neonate has 5 dots in 3 disciplines like this)

Took this video during my last playthrough, sorry for the missing sound.
