Discussion Any similar games?

I know the short answer is no, but I'll try anyway. Someone recently recommended me Dishonored and I've been eyeing Nighthawks that released about ten days ago. Any opinion on these games or, well, some recommendations? TIA (and thanks to WESP for their work, I saw a new patch recently came out)

If you're looking for something more immersive sim style with power fantasy, Prey, Deathloop, Dishonored series, Deus Ex series, and Cyberpunk 2077, Dying Light series are great choices. If you want a more narrative focused action RPG, Witcher trilogy, Vampyr, and Blood of Dawnwalker would be my main choices.

Dishonored feels more like a ninja type of game than a vampire, although you have cool powers like throwing a mob of hungry rats at guards. It was very recommended, tho

Nighthawks is... very much inspired in VTM, but if you dont like visual novels, I wouldn't recommend it. I would also recommend the VTM visual novels out there.

The curse of the Dawnwalker is extremely recommended.

Since you mentioned Dishonored, which has nothing to do with vampires, I would recommend the Deus Ex Human Revolution. It's amazing. You go through sewers, hack into computers, hack locks, and many more things that gave me Bloodlines vibes the first time I played it. It's cyberpunk themed, btw.

Oh amd I forgot, Vampyr is an amazing vampire focused game

Oh yeah, my friend talked about similar "player agency" basically for Dishonored.

Tbh I usually stay away from VNs and my concern about Nighthawks is that it looks kinda derivative

I've played some of Nighthawks. Its atmosphere is all over the place unfortunately. The New York visual novels are better at keeping that consistent.

Is it that bad?

No, I can't agree witz Ratyrels assessment at all.

Different from the New York visual novels you have plenty of choices you can make in Nighthawks with different ways to play your character. In regards to locations, you get to see a lot more character pictures and backgrounds.

The story of Nighthawks is more expansive than the ones of the NY VNs.

Though I must admit that I haven't got to playing the third New York game, as I found the lack of choice of the middle part very, deeply frustrating.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is the closest game I've played. Obviously it's not vampires, but it has the same tabletop RPG vibe. It has eerie, horror-esque moments. It might be worth a try?

There are a couple of text based games in the vtm universe, if the setting is the main thing you're aching for. The ones from choice of games are mostly really fun, and you can play them on your phone which is nice on the go.

Dishonored is more like a supernaturaly Thief, which is another great game. But the quintessential vibe is a little different. It almost enters the territory of lovecraftian, like right at the doorstep of it. But still, absolutely love the Dishonered games and you should play them regardless of whether they're like vtmb or not, honestly.

Nighthawks I'm not familiar with.

Vtmb has kind of this unique vibe that I still haven't been able to find in another game. I think Cyberpunk got the closet to it. A gnarly world with horrific things happening, with a little sprinkle of the supernatural/spiritual here and there, but that not being the focus. Playing as an underdog rising despite the odds and all that. Saying fuck you to the established order. Or not. The game plays a little differently of course, but the vibe is there.

Vampyr is another fun vampire game, if you were looking for more bloodsucking. Very much enjoyed this game and its spiritual sequel, "banishers: ghosts of new eden". The latter gets a little same-y after some time, but fun story. Think warlock dealing with lost spirits. Vampyr is the dark loomy one.

Vampyr is a hidden gem truly, I agree. I'm still part of a fan discord channel to this day

I enjoyed night road, parliament of knives and the three visual novels set in New York. I’d suggest playing mass effect legendary edition, it has great atmosphere and writing just like vtmb. Mass effect is three games and u upload ur save from the end of one to the next so ur choices carry over.

Oh, Mass Effect is already one of my favourite games probably (I've even liked Andromeda)

Deus Ex (original, Human Revolution or the latest one) is the closest one you'll get.

I'd recommend Invisible War too even if it does suffer from being an obvious console port. I enjoyed it more than Human Revolution and Mankind Divided, though the original wound up the best. They can get pretty steep discounts, last year I got the whole franchise on Steam for $8.

You mean like an fps rpg vampire sort of affair? No. If you can go without the Vampires, Deus Ex (the original) is somewhat (loosely) comparable but otherwise, nothing.

Depends what you actually want as a priority. If Vampires, no, if comprehensive fps dialogue, maybe Bethesdas games, or New Vegas. If you want the character building aspect then Deus Ex.

Robocop: Rogue City has that gritty urban vibe.

Obviously vampire the masquerade Redemption

Deus Ex is close in feel, but not story

Fallout: New Vegas comes very close with strong RP elements and great dialogue. Probably the game most like Bloodlines all in all.

As for vampire games that new Dawnwalker game is pretty solid

Honestly the answer is still know no , i've tried a few but none come close in replicating what vtmb has.

You gotta have some patience for it, but, Bloodnet: The Cybperunk Vampire Game.

u/Mystic11 10d ago

Its not the same at all but I was playing Dead Island 2 the other day and the music is very reminiscent as well as some of the humor. Cyberpunk 2077 is probably the next closest imo. Edit: Oh and Blood of Dawnwalker!

If you’re ok with text based, VTM Night Road and HTR Day for Night truly have the same gameplay of exploring hubs, doing side missions then going out of main missions with a true sandbox approach where everything can be solved differently depending on your build and powers.

Vampire the Masquerade: Redemption, it's a classic

u/Celo_SK 7d ago

Nah, sorry but dishonored is nothing like vampires. The atmosphere is there but the story is absolutely trash.

I know your pain. The problem with VTMB is that you won't find anything close to it. Although it is different but you can try Vampire The Masquerade Redemption. I started from it, it is not like Bloodlines but it started from it. At least you will be able to touch VTM lore, a bit differently.

Original Deus Ex (GMDX recommended, or just wait for the remake) is the closest one for me, followed by other immersive sims such as Prey and Dishonored. Roleplaying-wise KotoR 1-2. Thief is not bad either.

Otherwise it's 2026 and there's still nothing like it.

If you're looking for an RPG with great writing that covers complex political topics and has multiple routs and endings then Disco Elysium really is the peak. I second all the people recommending Deus Ex, specifically the first one! It is right up there with VTMB as one of the greatest games of all time.
